With the war in Iraq looking like an unwinnable disaster and the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina putting even more focus on the failures of the Bush administration, it was time to divert some of the media focus and crank up the fear/war-mongering rhetoric.

Enter Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney and FOX News.

Cue 9/11, Bin Laden footage.

Evoke the Nazi/Hitler terrorist boogeyman.

FEAR FEAR FEAR

Clear simple message: "If you don't support us, you support the terrorists."

REPEAT

Cue 9/11, Bin Laden footage.

Evoke the Nazi/Hitler terrorist boogeyman.

FEAR FEAR FEAR

Clear simple message: "If you don't support us, you support the terrorists."

Then, show that you're Fair and Balanced with quick mention of a differing viewpoint.

… And that's the Propaganda 101 lesson in this video clip. Watch it and be afraid - be very, very afraid.

Digg!

What an absolute arse we have for a secretary of Defense. He said at the convention, “(We)... now risk losing the war of ideas to the enemies...”

Come on, Rumhead. With all the gross lies, corruption, and inadequate planning for unaccepted intelligence, the torture and slaughter, illegal use of weapons, and with the logical and moral perversions to justify this horrendous error - this administration has already lost what they are trying to call, “The Long War”.

Absolute b-s, Rummy. Not my war, Rumsfeld. Count me out.

You and your type have created this monster. Fix yourself, admit gross errors in the fascist policy you wish to foist upon the world, cease supporting that abortion called Israel, pull out of the Middle East, then do the right thing and go shoot yourself, Rummy.

If you're going to make such charged comparisons between the continent-conquering mass-murdering dark side of Nazi Germany and the excessive-bombing of the various Fundamentalist Islamic Activists, then you should provide actual comparisons rather than just saying "they're similar."

How are they similar? What, exactly, do they have in common? And be certain that for one to make the assertion that they're similar enough for you to bring it up in public discourse, that you have a long list of comparisons to present.

In other words: Put up, or shut the fuck up.

Let's send Rummy and Fox News some tools to help them find our enemies.

Handheld mirrors ought to do the trick.

This is the same man...

This is the same man responsible for:

"we will be greeted as liberators"

"I don't know how long this will last. Six days. Six weeks. I couldn't imagine it going on for more than six months."

"They aren't even insurgents"

"you go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time."

""We do know of certain knowledge that he [Osama Bin Laden] is either in Afghanistan, or in some other country, or dead."

"We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat." –on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction

"Needless to say, the President is correct. Whatever it was he said."

"There's another way to phrase that and that is that the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. It is basically saying the same thing in a different way. Simply because you do not have evidence that something does exist does not mean that you have evidence that it doesn't exist." -on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction

"I don't do quagmires."

"I don't do diplomacy."

"I don't do foreign policy."

"I don't do predictions."

"I don't do numbers."

This is the man who shook Saddam's hand in the 80s.

This is the same White House that tried to tell us that the insurgents were getting desperate and in their "last throes" because they were killing more and more people.... which they said for about 2 years.

I think we should all by now know exactly what this doddering old fool's words are worth... as well as what the words of this entire administration are worth.

Rumsfeld sets up future right wing narrative

Rumsfeld sets up future right wing narrative - blame the loss of the war on media backstabbers, just like the loss in Vietnam was blamed on the protestors here at home. Check out this Harper's article on that subject: Stabbed in the Back! The past and future of a right-wing myth.

Open borders are sacred! - ("If you don't agree with us, you're a Nazi...")

Funny... those very same words ("If you don't agree with us, you're a Nazi lover.") sound strangely familiar...

Oh yeah! -- those are the very same words that get thrown in the face of anyone who dares question open borders when the AlterNet runs an immigration story.

Except the open-borders loonies usually leave out the word "lover."

Moral to the story -- everyone loves free speech, as long as they agree with it!

Who said this?
"Naturally, the common people don't want war, but after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliment, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people could always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country."

Hermann Goering, speaking at the Nuremberg trials after World War II

What's an Islamo-Fascist?

I don't know and I can't even imagine. My classes in political science taught me it is a _post_-industrial phenomena. The Bush regime in its partnership with corporations, war machine and stirring of hatred toward gays, illegal immigrants and a free media is about as fascist as any major government you can point to in the world today.

And that's their genius. It is pure Orwell. Get the word out as often as possible in as many contexts as possible. Make "fascism" literally meaningless so when an educated person tries to explain that the Bush Regime has the scholarly elements of a fascist party all the listener will hear is "Woof, Woof".

Use the word most likely to be used on you in advance, but facing out the other way.

Hmmm.

What other mythological creature used to spin terms and icons on their heads?

I'm having a devil of a time remembering who that was.

Can someone remind me who said,
"when fascism comes to america it will be
wraped in the flag and carrying a cross".
Who ever it was hit right on the head.
It has happened just like that.
