During President Bush's Katrina press conference, CNN's Kyra Phillips took a bathroom break and didn't realize that her mic was on.
While Bush attempted to reassure people that the federal government will be ready if another natural disaster happens, CNN watchers got to listen to Phillips in the bathroom zipping up and chatting about her brother and "control freak" sister-in-law.
Here is a rough transcript courtesy of Wonkette:
Highlights: The clip starts with what sounds like “ASSHOLES.” Then Kyra talks about, presumably, a boy of some sort: “No ego… you don’t understand., just a really passionate, compassionate human being. And they exist! They do exist. They’re hard to find—”
COWORKER: “Yep.”
KYRA: “But they… are out there.”
Thankfully, “Mom” seems to approve (“good vibe”)
Then, Kyra again: “Of course brothers hafta be, you know, protective. [ZIP] Except for mine. I gotta be protective of him. Ugh, yeah. He’s married, three kids, but his wife is just a control freak.”
Then the best part:
WOMAN: Kyra—
KYRA: Yeah baby—
WOMAN: Your mic is on.
ANCHOR: All right, we’ve been listening in to…
CNN has really been on their game lately. Last week, Wolf Blitzer interviewed the wrong person on live TV.
UPDATE: CNN apologizes.
UPDATE 2: Kyra Phillips appeared on the Late Show to deliver her Top Ten excuses for going to the bathroom with her mic on. You can view the video here.
