Senate Republicans killed a bid to raise the minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25. The bill needed 60 votes to pass but only received 52.

Amazingly, the minimum wage has been stuck at $5.15 since 1997. A fulltime worker making minimum wage would earn only $10,700 per year. Meanwhile, Congressional pay has increased by $31,600 since '97.

Hmm, what do you think Jon Stewart would have to say about this?

"The lower strata of American society has had a free ride for too long. And, if you were to give them $7.25 an hour, you know it would just go, you know, up their nose and through their hose.… Kudos to Congress for taking a giant shit on the poorest in the country!"
