The public option, includes a provision that the determination of what health care will be paid for, is to be decided by the National Council (I forget the exact name), which is a group of doctors. It does NOT, in any fashion, specify what treatments will and will not be coverd.

This means, that if you choose the public option, that this council can decide not to cover something that you intended to use this coverage for. And they can decide this AFTER you've made your choice.

If THIS version of the public option becomes available, insurance companies will be able to defer THEIR coverage to "treatments approved by the National Council" instead of doing their own research (it'll be cheaper).

Currrently, insurance companies can not determine what treatments they won't cover, after you've bought the policy. Yes, the current policies are crap, but you know what they are up front. Not so with the national council clause.

This essentially means that what health care you can and can not get, no matter what you choose, will be decided by a group of people that were not elected, or even went through a confirmation process.

No group should have that sort of power.

We need a public option, but we need one WITHOUT that council.

Who won't allow people the 'Free Will' to legally commit their lives to whom ever they chose.

Long, long time ago... in La Jolla, CA in about 1976 or so when I was in my early 20's. I was at a fundraising party for Tom Hayden, who was running for the democratic nomination for U.S. Senate against then Sen. John Tunney. Voight was there too, in blue jeans and a tank top, looking like he'd just stepped off the set of Deliverance. He gave a rousing speech in support of Hayden to the partygoers, liberal Democrats all.

Tunney won his party's nomination, but lost the general election to sleepyhead S.I. Hayakawa, blaming the radical left wing of the Democratic party for causing a split. Voight was quite the lefty in those days, and he seemed like a pretty nice, regular sort of guy when I spoke with him briefly. I wonder what happened?
