The real Maverick family of Texas has a few words for John McCain in this new video from Brave New Films:

My grandfather was a new deal congressman with Roosevelt.

All the Mavericks back to 1624 have been independent and free and wild and standing up for civil rights and human rights.

It was pretty funny when Tom Cruise called himself Maverick.

Mavericks is a surfing place in Santa Cruz.

Madonna's record label is Maverick.

I rather like it. I like the Dallas Mavericks.

We never minded it.

It's only McCain having the nerve!

It's like chalkboard with a finger nail

He been on Bush's back for the last how many years? He's voted with him 90% if the time.

Supporting people who are CEOs, making millions of dollars

John McCain, you're no Maverick

I think an argument could be made that, at one time, he WAS a maverick running loose, unbranded, free-range and free-minded.

However, he was caught, branded and broke to ride quite a few years ago. His soul carries the marks of Bush and the republicans. He has occasionally shown enough spirit to kick up his heels (example: the approval of torture), but it doesn't take much for his handlers to put him back in the corral...

Maverick's is a surf break in Half Moon Bay California, not Santa Cruz.

...not that it matters much in this particular context.

Peace & surf y'all!

It comes as no surprise that McCain is no maverick. HE isn't anything else he says he is either. He is an unprincipled person who has been correctly identified as a crook. Remember the Keating scandal? HE was the biggest crook in the bunch.
HE dumped his first wife because she was no longer a trophy wife after a disfiguring accident. Nice guy. It should be obvious when you see him smile that he never means it.

There is evidence that there is a connection between "Joe the plumber" and the Keating family which should explain why McCain has latched onto him.

All in all,I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him and I wish I could throw him out!

Being a maverick is subject to similar characteristics as being 'cool'.

If you have to claim you are - then you're not.

Simple.
