Palin Refuses to Call Clinic Bombers Terrorists

Posted by Ari, Firedoglake at 3:01 AM on October 24, 2008.

She could have just said yes, because they are.

I just watched some highlights of Brian Williams's interview with Sarah Palin and John McCain.

This exchange was shocking: (I transcribed this section myself -- sorry about any errors.)

Brian Williams: Back to the notion of terrorists and terrorism, this word has come up in relation to Mr. Ayers -- hanging out with terrorist – domestic terrorists. It is said that it gives it a vaguely post uh 9-11 hint, using that word, that we don’t normally associate with domestic crimes. Are we changing the definition? Are the people who set fire to American cities during the ‘60’s terrorists, under this definition? Is an abortion clinic bomber a terrorist under the definition?

Sarah Palin: There is no question that Bill Ayers via his own admittance was um one who sought to destroy our US Capitol and our Pentagon -- that is a domestic terrorist. There’s no question there. Now others who would want to engage in harming innocent Americans or um facilities, that uh, it would be unacceptable -- I don’t know if you could use the word terrorist, but its unacceptable and it would not be condoned of course on our watch. I don’t know if what you are asking is if I regret referring to Bill Ayers as an unrepentant domestic terrorist. I don’t regret characterizing him as that.

Brian Williams: I’m just asking what other categories you would put in there. Abortion clinic bombers? Protesters in cities where fires were started, Molotov cocktails, were thrown? People died.

Sarah Palin: I would put in that category of Bill Ayers anyone else who would seek to destroy our United States Capitol and our Pentagon and would seek to destroy innocent Americans.
She could have just said yes. Instead Sarah Palin decided to talk about Bill Ayers. Brian Williams's even gave her a second chance to answer the question.

Notice in both answers, her wording is VERY specific. She talks about "innocent Americans." But from everything I've read about Palin's religious beliefs and her views on abortion, I doubt she  thinks doctors who preform abortions are "innocent." Furthermore I doubt she views abortion clinics as "innocent."

It was a simple question and deserved a simple answer.

Digg!

I believe that Ms. Palin would consider an abortion clinic bomber a soldier on a "mission from God". Will she come out and say that.
Not unless shes at church in Alaska!

It's not terrorism if my fanatical beliefs agree with it.

Once again, sickening. If she's the future of the Republican party, the US is doomed.

most heineous domestic terrorist to attack the US, and that would be Timothy McVeigh. But since he was involved in the militia movement -- like her husband Todd's friends in the Alaska Independent Party -- I doubt she would have answered "yes" to that one, either.

I just love it when these people want to have it both ways! Talk about ridiculous!

So Eric Rudolf Is Not A Terrorist, Eh?

So I take it, Gov. Palin, you don't think Atlanta Olympics & abortion clinic bomber/murderer Eric Rudolph is a terrorist? Funny thing, the FBI does. Of course, if Palin accepted the FBI's classification, she would also have to characterize those backwoods North Carolinians who aided fugitive Rudolph as "palling around with terrorists". Geez, talk about being hoist by one's own petard!

In all probability, she was suggesting here that women seeking abortions should be regarded as terrorists.

WAKE UP! Understand what kind of extremist this woman is!

Palin fits right in with Reagan's "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter" nonsense.
It all depends upon your point of view - moral relativism. Let's put it another way: "Who's ox is being gored?"
"All's fair in love and war," and politics!

Unlike William Ayers, who targeted buildings and statues and issued statements in advance which resulted in no innocent people being killed, the anti-abortion terrorists specifically targeted the doctors, nurses and staff that they thought were performing the abortions. By their own admission this was their intent. For Sarah Palin to equivocate on this issues is disingenuous at the least and at the worst a clear support for the violence perpetrated on innocent people-that is to say she supports terrorists. Given her affiliation with radical evangelicalism it would not be a stretch to say she has "financially" supports terrorism as well.

Believe it or not, many Palestinians labour under the delusion that Hamas are freedom fighters. Dear God, some poor deluded Iranians think US soldiers covertly acting within their borders are terrorists. Even more misguided Iraqis consider that the US and UK invaded their country illegally and the words "shock and awe" referred to some sort of terrorist intent. Now you know, and I know, that bombs dropped from Western shiny planes are legitimate, virtuous and entirely benign; but some unsophisticated souls just don't get the difference and think the resulting deaths are just as heinous as those of 9/11.

Well, Sarah Palin is more sophisticated than that, and she has grasped the essential point that terrorists are people whose motivation you disagree with. At least she's semi-honest.
