We'd like to talk about the pressing issues facing our country: the woeful economy, rising unemployment, the housing crisis, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.  But we can't talk about them because John McCain and Sarah Palin have distracted us with the politics of hate and fear

Instead of discussing the real issues plaguing Americans, McCain and Palin have turned to fear-mongering and race-baiting, stoking the prejudices of their supporters.  The situation has become so critical that we've teamed up with Color of Change to put an end to these dangerous mob scenes.

Things have gotten so out of control that some conservatives have come forward to denounce McCain and Palin's hate-mongering.  In an Op-Ed for The Baltimore Sun, Frank Schaeffer writes: "John McCain: If your campaign does not stop equating Sen. Barack Obama with terrorism, questioning his patriotism and portraying Mr. Obama as "not one of us," I accuse you of deliberately feeding the most unhinged elements of our society the red meat of hate, and therefore of potentially instigating violence."

Here's how you can take action:

  1. Sign the open letter calling on McCain and Palin to reject the politics of hate.
  2. Sign up for a free video subscription and get the latest on the real McCain.
  3. Send this video to yours friends, and post it on your blogs and networking sites like Digg, where it will effectively reach those outside the choir.
Don't let McCain and Palin undo the decades spent fighting for civil rights and equality in our country.

The great thing about this election season is that the world finally gets to see who Americans really are without the Hollywood veil.

that the country's more closed-minded, racist elements find solice in the closed-minded, racist policies of the republican party. There is little doubt in my mind that in the dicotomy of American politics, klansmen tend to bend towards the republicans, BUT...

the truth is Ayers was a terrorist. There is no way around that. That is truth. Ayers and the weatherman resorted to "fight fire with fire". They bombed the pentagon, etc... it was meant to terrorize as a way to resensitize the American public to what they were condoning in Vietnam. He was a domestic terrorist in a crazy time who decided that the ends justifies the means.

I don't pretend to understand fully the desperation of those who understood the US was murdering men women and children on a daily basis, while the homeland continued business as usual, but i won't pretend that Ayers aim was not to terrorize; it most clearly was.

Ayers was a weak leader looking for a quick fix. He was maddened by the carnage of the time and acted out violently to try and stop it. What he accomplished by resorting to terrorism, was to completely discount his own voice in the discourse of the time. He went into hiding and took money and support from drug dealers and I believe committed theft to finance his campaign.

The weathermen were a useless waste of time. A group of arrogant American kids playing revolutionary, emulating real revolutionaries of the time, but lacking the resolve to really confront the issues in a way that would have swayed the minds neccesarry to end the war.

The real heros were the protesters that did regular "combat" with the powers that be. The student leaders and radicals that tirelessly waged a campaign against the machine, and paid the highest price for it; students being shot by the government for protesting is what swayed many of the hearts and minds of america, not the egocentric proclamations and cowardly bombings of the weathermen- they played no real role in anything other than creating their own myth... Ayers was a self proclaimed terrorist, so why is the public so amazed he's being called on it.

I think this whole thing is a non-issue, but it is interesting to remember that Obama voted in favor of FISA, the very thing that the weathermen uncovered (cointelpro) as an illegal action being carried out by the gov't against the citizenry (the only real contribution of the weathermen, which was carried out without violence); OBAMA has helped make legal what would have destroyed any real ability to organize beyond the view of the government.

Is that the change u are looking for america? a legalization of big brother?

hilarious

Still as backwards as they ever are. Lets take a real look at the true picture.1,Steal land and murder the helpless and create false images of history making the sickly eroupeeons the heros of the world.2 en-slave others and take them from thier homelands and deposit them here on Turtle Island and creating more dis-harmoney with tall tales of the black demons who only want to rape white woman and steal their stolen lands.3 make shure ONLY the same type of whiteman is in control we can all see this by the type of leaders this stolen country has allways had.
And if you think I on way off the mark go back and bury your head and keep pretending that america is a nation of compassion.
I prefeer to research and understand and I am all-so not trying to say I have all the answers but what I do know that what we live in is mostly made up and lies designed to keep folks in fear and heaven forbid any of us find real freedoom.
Have a nice day!

Unless I am totally mistaken, the American People were told when the campaign between McCain and Obama began we could expect a campaign based upon the issues.

Given that the two individuals who told us this were the two candidates, I had a very faint hope that perhaps, just this once, such an idea had a chance. Just imagine, a campaign not based upon assessing blame but one based upon the actual issues. Not a campaign based upon how many houses one owned or how many times one were a neighborhood organizer or how many pieces of legislation one introduced. Yet, here we are, once again.

John McCain never repudiates any of it. His failure to repudiate amounts to endorsement. McCain is guilty. He doesn't deserve a moments notice from any of us.
