At last weekend's New Yorker festival, Donna Brazile delivered an impassioned speech about how the McCain-Palin campaign has been using deplorable racial politics and ugly attacks to smear Obama recently.  The panel, entitled "If I Were Running This Campaign," also featured New Yorker staff writer/moderator Jeffrey Toobin, as well as CNN's Ed Rollins and Alex Castellanos.

Donna is one tough, smart woman.

her skin color is irrelevant and the fact that she has to talk about it AGAIN is so pathetic for a so-called modern nation, it's simply unbelievable. If race gets injected into this election by the McCain camp (yes, they are desperate cowards), I think there will be riots. There has to be.

how about some checking into the Moosette's racial history. That would be interesting. Any genealogists out there willing to try? Start in Idaho.

She should be on the campaign trail for Obama. What an impassioned, wonderful, AMERICAN VIEW... not like the hate-filled racist, lets-divide-Americans- tactics that McCain has dropped to. She was wonderful. And if you can not feel this, then you aren't really an American, and can never be. BRAVO! Send Palin on the BUS back to Alaska. Thank you!

Back Handing Racism & Sexism

It's time to Send the racist & sexist back to elementry History class.
What is the name of that Woman in NY Bay? What is Written on the Base? Who's ancestors filed past her to Seek her Pledge? How many faced discrimination, How many succeeded in Spite of it? How many Of US OWE a show of respect to those who came before US, Who gave US this unique Opportunity?
And Who are WE to deny any others that Promise?
So When I hear some Idiot taking about Obama's Race or his cultural background or poss religious afffiliation and Stating HE IS NOT ONE OF US....I gotta Ask 'Who the Fuck are You? Because You Are NOT An American!"
I'll admit it, McCain's campaign and his zombie supporter are not the only Ones feeling HATE.They are not the only ones Screaming Traitor, Treason or Terrorist.....I am too, but in regards to McCain, Palin, the RNC and their Innately UnAmerican Followers.
How bad is the Utter Hatred of this group of basically 'Christian Tailban', This Ol' John Lennon Fan can no longer ask 'Give Peace a Chance' I am DEMANDING IT! And If it takes' bloodying their Noses' So Be it!
I am max'ed out after 30 years of Political conscienceness of Tolerating these Folks. They have run not only our country and Our reputation into the ground, they have run the Ideals and Our guiding Doctrines as Well!
Being called a 'racist' seems to have no enlightening effect....so let's stop mincing words....If you do NOT adhere to 'All Men are Created Equal'(Men as generic) Then you are Not only a Traitor To this country - You Are a Heretic! We are all 'Children of God' and In THIS COUNTRY we are All Equal!
God Bless America and Her Promise to Humanity!

Not only did you stand up for people "of color", but you stood up for women, too. People should watch the movie, "Drivin' Miss Daisy" over and over again until it sinks into their heads. We don't need more hatred in this country; we need to unite and make our country great again--better than it ever was. People like you who inspire others can make it so.
Obama/Biden '08!

What a great video. As a 57 year old man, I too have seen the great progress we as a nation have made in racial and gender equality. As a gay man, I felt Ms Brazile was also speaking to me and the progress we have made in equality and understanding for gays and lesbians. What the right wing nut jobs don't understand is that black people are not going back to the back of the bus, women are not going back to the kitchen, and gays and lesbians are not going back to the closet. I belive today is National Coming Out Day, so thank you Donna for such an inspirational speech to start my day.

Ms. Brazile is exactly the kind of human being that made our country the greatest to have ever existed on this planet. The Bush/Cheny/McCain/Palin are the kind of people that are turning it into one more third world country. Hate, fear mongering, wedge issues, robbing the public treasury, government by fiat(signing statements),are all symptoms of a society on the downhill slide. My sympathies are with Abe Lincoln when I see what his party has come to. I believe with four more years of Republican rule we won't have anything recognizable as the United States.

Go to youtube and do a search for "thinkverybig" and watch all of those videos. The one called "We Must Change" would be fitting to recite at Obama's Inauguration.

I remember Donna from years ago when I was a young and energetic activist. She was the one we really looked up to and admired for her down to earth intelligence and her fearlessness. We need people like her in leadership positions and in our public offices but we sure don't deserve them. Donna you are still my hero!

Midwest mother

Thank you Donna Brazile.
I am an African-American single mother in the Midwest experiencing in this modern nation, which speaks of embracing everyone, tactics of the ‘50s and ‘60s, similar to those I read about in my history classes. Its inflicted with a vengeance and masked under guises of smiles versus the gnashing of teeth. When I went to authorities I was a gasp at the nonchalant advice. Without placing all the details on this job board, people are being harassed by very manipulative hard leaning ideologs flexing political and business muscle to not let you on the bus, but trying to run you over with the bus because of fear, ignorance, and the inability to share a dream meant for me and anyone else willing to work towards that dream.

Some are so entrenched in their ideology; people are being kept from getting on the bus. Even more than that, it is coming across as wanting people to walk or barely get to where they are destined to go. Thank you Donna for your impassioned speech and sharing your history. Unfortunately, for a modern world, the history of intolerance based on differences, race, and gender is still being written because of ignorance.

I’m mentally and physically exhausted from trying to deal with this and quite frankly can’t begin to map out the next steps. Yes we have come very far, and I thank all those that sacrificed. But I hope we are not so comfortable to where we don’t see that some like going back to the ‘50s and the ‘60s. It is a shame, because any thinking person knows you can’t solve tomorrow’s problems with yester year’s solution. Advice welcomed.
