Republicans the real cut-and-run cowards

Posted by Bob Geiger at 7:47 AM on September 29, 2006.

GOP runs from nation's creed when going gets tough

Republicans have become so accustomed to using the phrase "cut and run" that they probably mumble it while sleeping and their childlike leader, George W. Bush, babbled it again yesterday, saying at yet another GOP fundraiser that "the party of FDR and the party of Harry Truman has become the party of cut and run."

That takes a ton of nerve coming from a Chickenhawk like Bush, who used Daddy's connections to avoid Vietnam and then went AWOL from his cushy stateside post. But we've heard that empty phrase from the cretins in the right-wing of the Republican party so many times that it barely even registers any longer.

They like to question the courage and patriotism of Democrats for being unwilling to shed more American blood and waste billions more on a pointless war, that the country was lied into and that's made us far less safe and more despised throughout the world. Aside from the fact that the majority of Americans no longer support the Iraq war -- and, thus, they must all be cut-and-run defeatists as well -- it is the Republicans who have shown themselves to be the lily-livered cowards among us.

Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and their whole craven cabal are scared stiff -- and they want us to all be very afraid as well. How frightened are they? They're so afraid that they are willing to go against everything this country stands for, in a blind panic that they think will somehow protect their sorry asses from the big, bad terrorist bullies.

They are so damn scared that they're willing to take a country that was founded on individual liberty and turn it into a police state -- all out of fear.

So they respond to Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda attacking our country -- and, according to Bush, "our way of life" -- by putting their collective tails between their legs and abandoning the very core principles crafted by the founding fathers to embody "our way of life."

I didn't realize it at the time, but the hideous losses we suffered on 9/11 would truly test our national character more than any event of my lifetime. Do we stick with the values and hard-learned lessons of our past in the face of these new challenges or do we let Osama bin Laden truly ruin our country by becoming a shadow of the nation we have always been?

Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), arguing against the Bush torture bill that passed both the House and the Senate this week, said it quite well yesterday:

“What has changed in the last five years that our Government is so inept and our people so terrified that we must do what no bomb or attack could ever do by taking away the very freedoms that define America? Why would we allow the terrorists to win by doing to ourselves what they could never do, and abandon the principles for which so many Americans today and through our history have fought and sacrificed?”

Whether he's in a cave, a nice hotel in Karachi or a CIA safe house, bin Laden must be laughing himself silly over the crisis of heart, soul and character he has so easily inflicted on the Bush Administration and, thus, our country.

It's trivial for a nation to stand by its creed when times are easy. But it's times like these, when circumstances and conditions are tough, that give us the real test of our national strength, courage and resolve.

Under Republican leadership, we are failing that test in the most miserable and pathetic way.

A great nation uses a horrendous event like September 11 to reinforce the things that have always made us the envy of the world and that, at least until our recent history, made us, in our best moments, the standard to which other countries aspired. A people of character suck it up and strive to remain a beacon of hope, equity and civil rights, while fighting those who attack us as strongly as we can.

The only thing Bush and his team of sissies have been right about is saying that we're not a nation that cuts and runs -- which is why all Americans should hate how our chicken-hearted, reactionary government has consistently done exactly that ever since we were attacked.

What we've seen happen in the last five years is not something that should invoke pride or flag-waving jingoism in Americans. We've watched a president and vice president whose lies have become so commonplace that they seldom even make the news. We've watched as our military men and women are killed or maimed in a war that has nothing to do with terror and everything to do with Bush and his mindless supporters selling fear to suit their ideological and financial agenda.

We've seen a world go from loving us on September 12, 2001 – many governments declared "we are all Americans today" – to us becoming a global pariah, with nary a friend who believes in our word or the promise of our deeds. We saw astounding pictures come back from Abu Ghraib, in which prisoners under our watch were tortured and, in some cases, killed.

And just this week, we have watched the Republican-led Congress affirm that all of that -- and more -- is just fine with them. At the same time, we have become willing to let the president mortgage our present and our children's financial future to spend money on a war that did not need to be fought, while ruining a reputation that previous generations worked so hard to build.

So tell every Republican you know that they can take their 'cut and run' garbage and shove it.

In the face of challenge and terror, George W. Bush and the Republican party have continued to debase our nation's spirit and trash the values that have made us great. In other words, the Republicans are allowing a few terrorists to change the very essence of our country and make us so afraid that we no longer even know who we are -- or what we stand for.

When the going has gotten tough, and our nation's heart and soul are on the line, it's the cowardly Republicans who have truly cut and run.

Digg!

CUT AND RUN
If you were in the Army and were posted on guard duty and your post was overrun by the enemy.Later it was found out you were asleep on duty. Why would you expect to be promoted!
Would the commander of the post keep your sorry self or would he "cut and run"? Would he "stay the course"? Or would you be executed for dereliction of duty and or Treason?
Was 911. Dereliction of duty or Treason?
Was Anthrax. Dereliction of duty or Treason?
Was New Orleans. Dereliction of duty or Treason?
Are Lies before Congress. Dereliction of duty or Treason?
Are lies to America and the people of the world. Dereliction of
duty or Treason?
And you dear reader? Keeping those in office at the time.
Dereliction of duty or Treason?
What stocks do you have? whom do you support? Dereliction of duty or Treason?
The corporate media lies. Why do you belive? Dereliction of
duty or Treason? (If you are unwilling to look at consertive
republican News sites like Whatreallyhappened.com don't even presume you are informed enough to respond to what I am
writing)
Torture denied(lied) at first .According to The White house We
like torture? Sick Monsters, Even some so called Psychologists have jumped on the Hate Crimes/sadism Bandwagon, Demented ,Sick ,Perverted
people in power. Dereliction of duty or Treason?
Here is a question for you. What do you hold dear? I hold the
following Liberty. Freedom. Peace. Equal Rights.(Inalienable
means for everyone not just for Americans.) The Bill of Rights
and the Constitution of the United States. Justice (how- ever
over priced).
The ability to speak (even to the police) without fear.
Respecting others until they show themselves (by their
actions)to be unworthy of respect.
Mr President you and your whole administration , by your own
actions have shown yourselves to be unworthy of respect.
In closing let me say That Bigotry is a sure sign of bad
breeding.

I've seen a couple of stories about US soliders fleeing the scene of an ambush, leaving unarmed truckers to fend for themselves.

....accepted the fact that 9-11 was an inside job, and covered up on a bi-partisan basis?

If you knew without a shadow of a doubt that 9-11 was a false-flag operation designed to get us precisely where we are right now?

That as a result of bipartisan efforts and votes we are sliding ever so much deeper into imperialistic and hegemonic fascism?

You claim “the Republicans are allowing a few terrorists to change the very essence of our country and make us so afraid that we no longer even know who we are -- or what we stand for.” Would your thoughts be the same if you were to understand that elements of our vaunted democratic republic engineered 9-11? And that the opposition party helped cover it up?

If you understood the above was true, would you still consider it likely or even remotely possible that the system which got us here would then admit their corruption and get us out of this mess?

If you are looking to find solutions to our nation’s bipartisan corruption, please go to www.neitherparty.org and help to make it your political party in whatever way you can.

The Spilling of Blood

During the last Presidential campaign, alot was said about Viet Nam and who did or didn't do what. It's interesting to note that there are many, many more Democrats who served in Viet Nam and other conflicts, than in the Republican Party. Almost no one in the Administration served anywhere and Mike Wallace aside (what was done to that man was utter travesty) Kerry was a hero while Bush went AWOL.

So now Republicans are saying that Democrats don't want to spill the blood of any more soldeirs in this travesty they call a "war?" Cut and run like Bush did from the Guard?

Of course the Democrats want our kids out of there because they know first hand what it is to have a buddy step on a land mine right in front of you and have his body parts flung far and wide. They know what a bomb does to a body. They know how easily a distant sniper can make a soldier's blood flow.

When you can remember the smell of blood, urine, feces all around you, it's next to impossible to want your kids to experience the same horror.

The callousness of the Rupublicans comes from never having had these experiencs. Since they are known as the part of the privileged, one can look at almost every law passed by the Republicans in both houses and say to yourself, "But they don't know how it feels to.... You fill in the blanks.

If the Republicans retain control of the Senate, I really fear what the future will bring. It certainly doesn't look bright.

Politcial party be damned. Both senators from Fl .voted for this torture bill. They have no shame. I do not know why or do I care why they have done this to US . You can not blame this on Geroge. It was his idea ,but if we had a few men and women of courage in the Senate this would not have passed. I do not think I have ever been so mad, except for 9/11 and I will not stop protesting. I am just a little old lady in Florida but I will not shut up.

Republicans have their own version of "cut and run": cut every social program that could possibly benefit americans, and run the country into the ground.

On a more serious note:

As the complacent, fear-addled Germans fell to the fascists in the 1930's, so America falls today:
Mark your calenders on the day when Bush signs into law the bill just passed by our cowardly congress that allows him to interpret the Geneva Conventions any way he wants, allows him to unilaterally name anyone he wants – including american citizens – as an enemy combatant; and the bill that all but destroys habeas corpus, THE most critical component of our justice system. That day will be important to record – because that will be the day when America dies.

From what I have been hearing on radio talk shows, the american people are, for the most part, ill-educated about our system of government, ignorant of the necessity for checks and balances between the three branches, and selfish and lazy to the point that they will gladly turn over their freedom to a dictator, as long as he leaves them alone to pursue mindless materialism.

This may be overstated (I doubt it); but the level of discourse I have heard from people who claim to support democratic ideals has been absolutely appalling in its lack of even a basic understanding of how a democratic republic is supposed to work.

The decade-long movement to dumb-down americans for the sake of more effective advertising is really paying off; so many voting americans are empty-headed when it comes to the Bill of Rights that our president and his toady congress will soon make most of those rights moot – and the public does not care, just a long as they are deluded into feeling safe from the terrorist "boogy man" that will have less of a chance of affecting any of them than being hit by lightning.

How sad that America will be lost to a dumbbell president and a rogue's gallery of misfits and criminals. A nation gets the government it deserves, so it is not hard to see how we are slipping into totalitarianism. It is bad enough when a nation is not smart enough or wise enough to give itself freedom; but it is infinitly worse when a nation throws it away.

By now, most everyone knows that the war pimps are almost all chicken-hawks, people who have never served. But it goes deeper, they know as well as you and I that we had no compelling interest in going into Iraq. Iraq is their ill-conceived wet dream and the only ones who have profited are the DoD contractors and their suppliers who have systemically ripped off the taxpayer to the tune of tens of billions of dollars.

Pulling out of Iraq is not 'cutting and running' any more than the firemen, policemen, EMT's and other who were fleeing the WTC on 9-11 were 'cutting and running'. No different than when people evacuate a low lying coastal area ahead of a hurricane. It is an untenable situation.

These scum-bag NeoCons and their beltway think tank Flying Monkeys, living in their comfortable homes in the US, are more than willing to use your family and friends as cannon fodder so that their paymasters can continue their war for power and profit. Read that again- they are willing to let you and/or your loved ones die for their cause as long as it costs them nothing. It's about caste, and you are not in their level. You are just sheep to be used for their purposes.

I'll make a deal with the Neo-Cons and the Think Tank pundits for hire: you go enlist in the Army or Marine Corps as an Infantryman, all of you. Then we will pull out the real soldiers and marines and let you fight it for the next 3 years.

Let's see how much you support your war when you wake up at Landstuhl after having been shot or blown up for profit. Let's see how much you support the war after having gone through months of physical therapy learning how to live with and use your new prosthetic limbs. Let's see if you still think it's worth it when you have regular seizures due to the closed head trauma effects of an IED blast. All for $1,178 per month (E-1 recruit pay), which will not even make the mortgage on your D.C. area house.

I have one thing to say to those spouting Karl Rove's Coached Catch Phrase of the Moment™- 'Cut & Run'.

Join Up Or STFU

You can now return to your spin induced coma...

I am surprised that the writer did not mention the right wing counter-attack which currently is under way. Namely: the Democrats are just criticizing and have no positive plan of their own. For one thing, doing nothing is preferable to making a deadly mess because of right-wing ideology and pathological pig-headedness. For another, the leadership of the Democratic party should stress that they will take a fraction of the money and human resources which we are wasting in Iraq and start investing it in better education and economic development for the region. Now THERE'S a plan. Anybody with the IQ of an eggplant knows that when you have a hundred thousand troops in somebody's country, you are asking for "resistance" movements.

And yes here in Canada , our shame is in the Harper lead Conservative right wing Government that mimicks Bush and his motto to "Cut-and-Run" on everything other than war and terror sending innocent people to their deaths.

Harper uses the motto two ways. One to guilt people into going to war and and the other to cut-and-run from the duty of leader to provide for the people of Canada in things like health care , child care, cutting the funding for the Law Commission etc etc. you name it(if has to do with respecting the people of Canada) Harpers Cutting it and running to cater to Bush and his agendas of war And terror. Becasue Bushs war and invasion of Iraq has promoted more and more terror and fear. So then it is no longer a war On terror but rather Bushs War And Terror. he is responsible for the path things have gone down.

Oh - the maturity! The intellectual brilliance in that piece - GAD! When I read the constant name-calling, i.e. "chicken hawk", (spelled as two words, fyi) I immediately knew that the content would be far left extremist attacking.

So, you are into putting down every service person that served in the same capacity as Bush during the war huh? Plainly you are still stuck in the propaganda about Bush leaving before his term was over - which has been proven untrue. But hey, if you need to win elections with false statements and a gang of attack-dogs who have no platform other than to dis others - go for it (another maturity thing I suppose)

Nevertheless, let's take a closer look at your cut and run party members: How about your playboy hero Clinton, who dodged the draft and left the country to avoid service? He was also the first president, the only president, who was pardoned for criminal activity before becoming president. Be proud!

Get pregnant? Cut and run cuz it's not too terribly convenient huh? It is only a baby who cannot defend him or herself, an easy kill for cowardly baby killers!

You mentioned Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) - I didn't think anyone on the left would bring up that disgrace of a person - the one and only "Leaky Leahy", who's admitted leak led to the death of three innocent people - oops! The strange thing is, he is still in the senate - just like your "ex" (right) KKK leader, third generation!

Rock music and sleep depravation. Wow, that's tough on people who merely want to chop our heads off, kill everyone in the country and convert the states to a Muslim world... Yeah, it's okay for those in the US being tortured by sleep depravation (possible killers and such), but God save the terrorists, the left's best pals!

And since the majority of the country doesn't want to cut and run and leave our allies in Iraq to do the job... The democrats are egocentric sorts... they care only about their own egos and running from the nasty pride of being pure losers year after year... Yeah, lets run and let them all get killed some more.... weaken our ally's and make them more in danger and join a gay march and a pro-baby killing protest instead. That's the progressive way... progressing to socialism and defeat.

Kerry, who joined the service (swift boats - who never ever went into combat prior to about a month after the brave Kerry joined, (damn for him), still will not produce records for his medical or his real discharge papers... (Only those given to him by Carter - honorable discharge my arse)

Bin's hiding now because before, under Clinton when we were attacked 4 times and bin declared war on the US, he knew that he didn't even need to hide! Hell, bin was handed to Clinton a few times, a sure hit - nothing... Playboy was way too busy lying under oath and getting his wankie wanked.

What a bunch of hot air called something credible to read.

Don't forget the spineless Dems who joined the traitorous Republicans in this legislative travesty. These senators, who could have stood in defense of values which help protect our troops and other personnel who should fall into captivity have inexplicably sold them out along with our moral standing:
Carper (D-DE), Yea
Johnson (D-SD), Yea
Landrieu (D-LA), Yea
Lautenberg (D-NJ), Yea
Lieberman (D-CT), Yea
Menendez (D-NJ), Yea
Nelson (D-FL), Yea
Nelson (D-NE), Yea
Pryor (D-AR), Yea
Rockefeller (D-WV), Yea
Salazar (D-CO), Yea
Stabenow (D-MI), Yea
Well, eleven Dems plus Lieberman. Really shocked to see Lautenberg on this list. I can't speak for the others. Let's hope the Dems can be trusted to take a stronger stand on Bushco's impeachable Fourth Amendment violations but their track record is no cause for optimism.

May those who voted for this bill reap that which they have sown.

Karl Rove, GW Bush, Cheney and others never had an opportunity to cut and run, they just hid and ran. Their cowardice was so great that they now try to extinguish their yellow past by sacrificing the lives of others. Like third grade bullies they bluster and blow behind walls of protection shouting their hypocrisies from safe distances protected by equally yellow media the likes of personal cowards Limbaugh, O Reilly and Hannity. Together this bunch, lined up by the hundreds never ever sacrificed for others a day in their lives.

I can almost see Osama bid Laden and his followers laughing at what is going on in USA. Everyone is so frightened and scared of their own shadows that they are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Bush is happy because he got what he wanted. Everyone is energized. He will protect everybody. He is the KING.

USA has serious debt problems and the war goes on and on and on.

The answer is so simple. Get the troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq and let them run their own countries in their own way.

USA can still stand by and help but not with killing but with negotiating.

Get rid of the people who have created this so called 'War on Terror' and let them pay for their lies and for the young lives they have wasted and the crippled soldiers who still have a life to live with mutilated bodies and unspeakable nightmares.

WAKE UP

Don't know about you but I have heard this stupid phrase daily since 9/11, and fear, don't know about you but I was taught as a child there is nothing to fear but fear itself and fear means false evidence appearing real, so what do we really have to fear? Nothing, maybe our own guilts, but has nothing to do with the dilemma of the day. Time has come for all of us to stand up and be counted, to take back our original country that was set up for us, with freedoms in place and our rights once again in play, don't know about you but a police state just doesn't look like something I want to live in, thankyou very much. Are there brave souls out there that truly believe in Our constitution and Our bill of rights, well time to get truckin', action is the magic word.
