Has the world gone completely insane?

It looks that way to me. Consider these two stories.

First, this from Reuters:

U.S. congressional Democrats expressed alarm on Tuesday over Iraq's denunciation of Israel in the Middle East conflict, and some said Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's address to Congress should be canceled unless he apologizes.
This story has so much that's so wrong, and on so many levels.
A group of about 20 House of Representatives Democrats sent a letter to House Speaker Dennis Hastert urging the Illinois Republican to secure an apology from Maliki or cancel the address on Wednesday to a joint meeting of Congress. Some said they planned to boycott the speech.[…]
OK, here come the Dems, who were too chicken-shit to stand up to Bush when he declared a War on Terrr (said chicken-shititude having led to the invasion of Iraq, secret prisons, etc.), but now have found sufficient spine to take a transparently political whack at our puppet ruler in Iraq for his poor puppetude.

What was his crime, again?

Iraq's U.S.-backed government denounced Israel's raids on Lebanon and Gaza. Maliki last week called for "the world to take quick stands to stop the Israeli aggression."
That's right. More specifically, he said "The Israeli attacks and airstrikes are completely destroying Lebanon's infrastructure," and warned that the conflict could "spill over to the entire Mideast." True on both counts, but something that those same Dems would never dream of saying for fear of getting a deadly a 95 percent rating from AIPAC.
Several lawmakers said they would press Maliki for his view on the Middle East conflict in meetings before the prime minister makes his address, which is intended to try to reassure lawmakers that U.S. lives and money have not been squandered on a country descending into civil war. […]
Just what we need: more folks telling our lawmakers that they're not wasting American money and lives in Iraq ...
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California said unless Maliki "disavows his critical comments of Israel and condemns terrorism, it is inappropriate to honor him with a joint meeting of Congress."
That's Nancy Pelosi, co-sponsor of HR 4681, a bill that cut off all aid to the Palestinians to punish them for electing a government we didn't favor. That's the bill that precipitated the horrific humanitarian crisis in the Gaza that preceded this conflict -- a subject never discussed in any media account I've seen.
Most Republicans said Democrats were making unrealistic demands, and said Congress should support the struggling leader as Iraq faces mounting sectarian violence.
"For him to take a strong stance that's perceived as pro-Israel where he's from is very difficult," Kansas Republican Sen. Sam Brownback said.
Hey Dems: screw you for making me agree with Sam Brownback, of all people. Sheesh!
Senate Republican Whip Mitch McConnell of Kentucky called the Democrats' statements "an insult to a duly-elected leader."
Too bad these Dems don't have the cojon to say what a complete sham it is to pretend that Iraq has a sovereign and legitimate government, or that Maliki is some kind of Jeffersonian democrat.

Anyway, the second story is this one, from the conservative rag, Insight
Conservative national security allies of President Bush are in revolt against Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, saying that she is incompetent and has reversed the administration’s national security and foreign policy agenda.
The administration had a foreign policy agenda? Who knew?
The conservatives, who include Newt Gingrich, Richard Perle and leading current and former members of the Pentagon and National Security Council, have urged the president to transfer Miss Rice out of the State Department ...
The criticism of Miss Rice has been intense and comes from a range of Republican loyalists, including current and former aides in the Defense Department and the office of Vice President Dick Cheney. They have warned that Iran has been exploiting Miss Rice's inexperience and incompetence to accelerate its nuclear weapons program. They expect a collapse of her policy over the next few months.
Theirs collapsed years ago.
"We are sending signals today that no matter how much you provoke us, no matter how viciously you describe things in public, no matter how many things you're doing with missiles and nuclear weapons, the most you'll get out of us is talk," former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said. […]
Yeah! We can't let these wogs get away with viciously describing things in public!
A leading public critic of Miss Rice has been Richard Perle, a former chairman of the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board and regarded as close to Mr. Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. Mr. Perle, pointing to the effort by the State Department to undermine the Reagan administration’s policy toward the Soviet Union in the late 1980s, has accused Miss Rice of succumbing to a long-time State Department agenda of meaningless agreements meant to appease enemies of the United States.
These are the same psychos who pushed us into Iraq, where 130,000 U.S. troops are esentially held hostage to Iran. We can't do what they want done -- bomb Iran and Syria to the stone age -- because, among other reasons, it would lead to a Shi'ite revolt in Iraq that would be the end of the whole Iraq project.

Look at them scurry for cover now that their policies stand in ruins. Look at them trying to cast blame on Condi, because nothing can be Bush’s fault. These guys are nothing short of pathetic.

Madness: it’s certainly a bipartisan problem.

Digg!

Nobody dislikes the Bush administration more than I -- well, maybe Saddam Hussein does -- but it's really sickening to see those hotshot Democratic leaders criticizing the very same puppet they helped create.

You're right -- it's enough to make a reasonable person's head explode.

I can't wait to go to the polls in September and November and vote against anyone who so much as hinted that they approved of our involvement in Iraq!

The Democrats' reaction to Maliki's comments highlight the problem with the Democratic party. What I mean is this: what the f*ck are they talking about? Are they on psilocybin? No shit an Arab politician is going to say Israel sucks, at least one who wants to be re-elected or not killed. Nancy Pelosi needs a good kick in the dick. What the hell was she thinking? Is this how the Democrats are going to beat the GOP, i.e., by feigning shock at the obvious? Perhaps Pelosi has a trick up her sleave, or quite possibly, this will be her "reporting for duty" moment.

I think Newt is going for the 105% AIPAC rating. Maybe he should ask Secretary of Defense Amir Peretz, er, Donald Rumsfeld for advice.

Even some Israelis have criticized the current slaughter, but those totally corrupted politicos in congress want the Arabs to adopt the American 11th commandment: Thou shalt not criticize Israel.

Obviously if it's OK for Israel to murder Americans (e.g. Rachel Corrie), even American military (e.g. the sinking of the Liberty), and certainly U.N. peacekeepers, than killing Lebanese is equivalent to duck hunting.

Next thing you know, our Iraqi stooge will be criticizing our continued killing of civilians in his own country.

Thank the gods somebody said it. I've been watching these Dems trip over themselves to slam the Iraqi PM for stating the painfull obvious--civilians are dying in Lebanon and their infrastructure is being destroyed. Their currying favor with AIPAC is so blatant, it's to the point of sickening. I understand politics involves a little ass-kissin, but they've swallowed a whole cheek. Hillary Clinton holds rallies praising the Israeli campaign without caring one whit about the 400 dead Lebanese. Chuck Schumer demands an apology for anyone saying, "gee. u know umm... i think dead Lebanese children is kinda wrong." And "I Have a Scream" Howard Dean goes as far yesterday as calling the Iraqi PM an "anti-Semite." WTF!?!? I have to fight the neo-con, pax-americana, end to civil liberties, religious right whackos, and this is the team I have to ally with? These are the guys who have my back?!?

PATRIOT WANTED - NEEDED BADLY

One side sips the neo-conartist war mongering fundamentalist kool aid - the other side downs the Israel can do no wrong stupid pills. What a choice! Bush's bestest pals, the Saudis, remain steadfast and they have proven themselves cunningly adept spreading hate amongst all good Muslims, ranting against even the existence of Israel and 'zionists'. So the balless, clueless dems decide a freakin Arab leader (hand-picked by Bush his own damned fool self), should renounce Hezbollah and gladly endorse a 'stay the course' attaboy for Israel? The World War III contingent of he-man wannabes, so facile at giving tactical advice to the military on who to invade next, and HOW it can all be accomplished, are scurrying to get on-camera time. They feel no shame that the only service they have ever performed for their country was done behind a desk, safely ensconced in their chambers of bullshit slinging, the only medal they display is the 'must have' flag pins that designate patriotism. Was there noone to stand up and point a finger of shame at the conspirators amongst them guilty of treasonous offenses that have led to our bloody, endless and failed occupation of Iraq. Mr. Maliki wouldn't have existed as a spokesman for Iraqis had we not wrought murderous destruction upon his country. I'm very fearful that there is not a true patriot in either party ready, willing and able to grab a microphone and start screaming out the truth of how enemies within our government subverted our constitution, took our country into an illegal and immoral war of choice and still harbor devious plans to widen the conflict worldwide in their greedy quest for empire? Cause that's exactly the calculated callous course these bastards want us to stay. And for those who truly love and support the state of Israel, they must implore Israel to stop following the neo-conartists handbook of war and occupation, because our example begets only further animosity, anti-semitism and never-ending death.
