The GOP says it: impeachment

Just to keep up with what goes on over at the Republican headquarters, I'm signed up for the GOP.com email newsletter. Imagine the surprise when an email from GOP chairman Ken Mehlman with the subject "Impeachment?" arrived. Looks like the good-ol'-boys might be a bit frightened:

The word is out. Their position is clear. Last week, Sen. Russ Feingold floated a reckless plan to censure the President, and some Democrat leaders have ecstatically jumped on Feingold's bandwagon.

And, if they gain even more power in November, they won't stop there.

Feingold says that censure actually represents "moderation" and calls the terrorist surveillance program an impeachable offense. Dick Durbin, the number two Democrat in the Senate, fails to rule out impeachment if Democrats retake Congress. Iowa Democrat Tom Harkin is talking "high crimes and misdemeanors." And 31 House Democrats are calling for a committee to look into impeachment. Their leader? John Conyers, who would become House Judiciary Committee chairman under Democrat control.

The Democrats' plan for 2006? Take the House and Senate, and impeach the President. With our nation at war, is this the kind of Congress you want?

Actually, yes -- yes, it is. To send a letter of support for Feingold to your local newspaper, check out MoveOn's campaign.

I agree, though I liked Will Durst's method better!

The new campaign slogan for the Democrats should be:

"Impeachment! Either you are for this (and Democracy) or against this!

Ten to one the real reason for Mehlman's email is they intend to use fear of an impeachment as a key issue to get likely Republican voters out to the polls.

"George may be a loser, and you may be thoroughly disenchanted with our Party, but do you want to put the country through an impeachment proceeding While We Are At War (c) ? If the Democrats regain Congress that's exactly what's going to happen, so come on out and vote for us to save the country from the partisan payback and hatred that Those People (Democratic Traitors Who Hate America (c) ) will unleash should they regain power".

The general public (read: purple-state swing voters) thinks this is a lousy idea. Bush has become unpopular but not that unpopular. And how is impeaching Bush going to help the country? It'll just drag the country through another nasty and divisive struggle while our problems continue unattended to. Dick Cheney would just become president and do the same stuff. We need to work on telling the American people what we can do for them realistically, concentrating on economic issues with wide support (universal health insurance, etc.)

Nothing would give me more pleasure than to see Bush buried up to his neck in feces with gay leathermen taking a piss on his exposed head. But the rest of the country doesn't feel that way and we're not getting anywhere with this impeachment business.

Insist on impeachment for war crimes

It does seem sad that we are reduced to seeking impeachment based only on the domestic spying scandal. If we had any guts we'd insist on impeachment and removal of the entire administration, followed by an international trial for war crimes and supreme crimes against humanity.

I oppose the death penalty, but in this case I might be able to make exceptions.

Really, if the best these wingnuts can do to rally their troops is fear of impeaching "their" President, that's pathetic. Will it work? Maybe, but who cares. The fact is gay marriage is less potent for them as polls show people are more ok with it, so this is their desperation card. The absurd thing is how many daily impeachable crimes and scandals will Bush committ between now and the time they "rally" for their "Dear Leader?" So many that this pathetic strategy has to be laughable. I would pity them, but they've earned only my scorn.

Ok, so let's say they impeach the whole lot of them, whose got the "plan of action" for what we're going to do then? It's like invading a country without equipping our soldiers, or having a plan, all over again.

When are the Dems going to grow a spine, get a clue, get a plan, and deliver? All we've seen from then for the last six years is: "Speak, sit, roll-over, and play dead," (rumor has it that a few of them are even housebroken).

I'm so sick and tired of the "Blowhard Right," and the "Lackluster Left," that I'm out of options. I'm ready to form the "Beer-Party" and hold a "rally" at my favorite drinking establishment.

If we truly want our country back, we can't leave it up to either of these parties to deliver, we're going to have to unite as ONE PEOPLE and DEMAND they remember exactly who it is they work for. All we need is a whole bunch of people to march on D.C. at the same time, so even the corporate-bought press can't ignore it.

Don't stop with tiny steps: censure, impeach and jail. The Bushies have committed so many crimes that if we achieve censure, the record will show impeachable offenses and then when we succeed in impeachment the record will show multiple crimes ripe for jail time. The whole Cheney/Bush gang should resign and save us a heck of a lot of trouble.

I got that drivel, too. "Ouch! The meanies are gonna spank us if they win in November." Although I doubt the Dems will EVER do anything (they're on the same banks' and corps' payrolls as the Repugs) - I can always HOPE. I was wondering the other day, if global warming raises sea levels around the globe, is there any chance Washington, DC will be under water? Hurry everyone, FLUSH!

Personally I'm all for a multi-count impeachment followed by an indictment before the World Court.

What I think is most interesting about the message is that they are still pushing so hard on using the word "Democrat" as a noun instead of an adjective. They know that this plays to their advantage, and are trying to get the media to jump on board with that usage.
