Echnide has an excellent post on the Miers nomination, and what it means when anyone who isn't a white male Christian gets selected for a highly scrutinized, highly visible post. Read on...

The rare woman in some traditionally male position of power is judged not just as an individual but as a woman, and many of us with two x-chromosomes hold our breaths watching her walk that tightrope. Because if she falls we all fall with her, and this makes us sometimes even harsher critics of a failing woman than those who really don't think much of women on the whole.

Combine cronyism with pseudo-affirmative action and we get Miers. This is gonna be great!

Digg!

Very intelligent commentary! You are absolutely right about the scrutiny.
Hey can we see a blog or an article about third or fourth wave feminism?
I am involved in a very interesting debate in the blogosphere with a very sweet Australian Anglican man, but we have only gotten as far as second wave feminism...I don't even know where to start with third wave feminism. Certainly not Miers!

A woman got appointed because he could not appoint another WASP man, and he sure as h.... was not going to appoint a black man or a black woman. He has had two chances now to reach out to the Am. Black community and just like in Katrina he has done nothing in regards to that....... He is not his daddy who knew the politics of doing such, Bushie is no lover of Blacks and what will all these close connections to women? HE's close to so many, how close?
