Bill O'Reilly Takes on Sexy Dancing High School Girls

Posted by Tana Ganeva, AlterNet at 2:19 PM on October 14, 2009.

Nothing like a moral scolding about lewdness from a guy sued for making obscene phone calls.

Bill O'Reilly, who hasn't been sued for obscenely propositioning a coworker in over 5 years (5 years and a day), often bemoans our 'anything goes' sexual culture. On a recent show, O'Reilly and "culture warriors" Gretchen Carlson and Margaret Hoover took on the latest harbingers of America's moral decline: sexy dancing high school girls.

The segment singled out a song team from a Sacramento high school. "At Rio Americano High School in Sacramento California, a song team displayed their talent ... for the student body" says O'Reilly pointedly. That really clever double entendre is followed by an overly long segment of footage from the performance, ensuring Fox viewers have time to truly appreciate how gross the young, pretty girls really are.

The three brave "culture warriors" proceed to dissect the dance number. And, in case viewers missed how lewd and exploitative the routine was the first time around, the footage is shown over and over and over again, while Carlson and Hoover creepily narrate: "What do you call spreading your legs and shaking your booty?" says Hoover, when O'Reilly asks if the dancing is overtly sexual. "And don't forget bending over, which was the most offensive move to me," adds Carlson.

To be totally fair, Hoover does make one sort of valid point -- that high school-aged girls should be taught to value their intelligence and character over their looks and sexuality (though she doesn't get into why that's an either/or proposition). But her argument is trampled by the porny descriptions and more standard noises of outrage coming from O'Reilly and Carlson.

Oh, and here are some real world results: the high school was flooded with complaints -- from Fox viewers outside of Sacramento, not the schoolkids' parents. And the under-aged girls singled out as symbols of impropreity and lewdness on national television? The Sacramento Bee reports that the song team:

... is not so happy people are talking about it. The coach and student dancers declined to be interviewed for this story. [Principle] Ginter said they feel the television coverage was unfair to them.

Is there really any better way to stanch America's moral decline than slut-shaming underaged girls on national television?

Here is a real opportunity for Fox News to boost its ratings! They can do an exposé on high school proms, dance programs, and cheerleaders, intercutting them with trips to various porn outlets, music videos, and clips from Girls Gone Wild! while clucking their tongues about the moral depravity of the images they are airing!

Why dont they do an expose on the sexualisation of toddlers and children in those junior beauty pageants? That would be useful.

But alas, their viewers would probably be up in arms about the attacks on those beauty pageants- its their conservative southern demographic that supports those pageants- so they would never go there.

Both Gretchen Carlson and Margaret Hoover remind me of Faye Dunaway in "The Handmaid's Tale".

Clearly, O'Reilly is Robert Duvall's "Commander" character.

Would O'Reilly, Carlson, and Hoover get equally... 'aroused'... watching Adam Curtis' "The Power Of Nightmares"? You know - the documentary which traces Islamic Jihad and the Neo-conservatives back to Sayyid Qutb and Leo Strauss, who were both disturbed by teenagers dancing wildly in those crazy 1950s.

I still think Hoover is ticked off that Bryn Mawr didn't have a cheerleading squad.

Coincidentally, my daughter and I were talking last night about the encounter between O'Reilly and Franken at the Miami Book Fair. First the 6'4" Billo tried to intimidate Franken's diminutive female publisher's rep. Then, on stage, he fumed while smaller-than-he Franken (smaller physically, if in no other way!) made him look like the clueless, bullying, lying liar he is. [Franni is reported to have said she was afraid Billo would leap off his chair, grab a ballpoint pen, and try to jab it into Al's jugular.]

Hmmm... That suggests a blog entry. It'll involve Sharia law, grand pianos, and Billious Billo!

Congratulations Billboy, I'm sure nothing made your day like publicly humiliating a group of underage girls who didn't realize what they were doing was obscene until you thoughtfully pointed it out. Since you've been living under a rock all your life I'd like to point out that leg splits and bending over have probably been a part of dance routines since the Neanderthals (a group you really would've identified with). Oh, and a word of advice, never go to a ballet performance, your head would explode. Hmmm ... on second thought...
Anyway, you and the two runners up for Miss Frigid of 1995 (I'm sure they've never bent over for anyone) can rest easy now that you've exposed this bastion of moral depravity.
You can just lie back in your easy chair with a large jar of Vaseline watching the dance video over and over and over ...

So you are one of these parents who may have been a bit horrified yourself by this routine. But hey it was only seen by those in attendance...Nope FOX has made it a "Girls Gone Wild" clip shown to those who would otherwise been oblivious to YOUR daughters Ass shaking in the camera.
I haven't seen the clip- nor care to waste my time. But even if you blur the faces of these cheerleaders- They and all those who know them know exactly who they are.
O'Reilly is once again providing the 'soft' porn to his viewers (and himself). and apparently this time he is trying to 'stir' his pedophilia base.
This consistent behavior when it comes to discussing 'sexually' explicit issues not only says volumes about O'Reilly, and FOX execs, but also their viewership.
Did any of these parents sign a release for for FOX to air that footage?? If I was one of those parents I'd be talking to the other parents, and a lawyer, about bring a class action suit against FOX and BillO.

My God! Have you seen what goes on there? The women wear deliberately provocative cut off dresses with tight bodices, the men, Oh Horror! wear TIGHTS that display their genitalia at eye level for the audience.
And the "performance" !! The women routinely bend forward and place one leg vertically in the air with the man gripping them around the waist FROM BEHIND. And surely the most disgusting display of all, the men lift and carry the women holding them by the crotch!

There are any number of upstanding GOP Senators that would be prepared to examine this sick travesty of art closely and report back. Let us hope that the blessed Bill can find time to expose in sweating detail what goes on at the barre.

send dobbs off to fox news. they really believe if they say it its true. before they say it they know it, whatever it is, is a lie. then when they do say it their minds arrive at some sign post in the road and it becomes true to them, and how dare you disagree.

Me Thinks Thou Dost Protest Too Much

Nothing new on O'Reilly, or Fox. I remember the "news" panel that dissected the teenage girl who got beat up, her hair cut and cigarrette lighter burns on a playground some months ago.
While they bemoaned the actions, they replayed the event no less than 10 times (I counted). They exploit for ratings.

That being said, and the title of my comment; O'Reilly really loves to cover young girls sexuality. And it works. I'm a red blooded Amreican male and I'm not afraid to say that looking at yound nubile teenagers is quite fun... if honest, most men would agree. But it's like the preachers who constantly rail against sexuality or homosexuality or whatever, you know they focus on it so much not because they really hate it, but because they have some unresolved issues.

Gee, it looks to me as if O'Reilly has taken a bit of a fall (& still falling we can hope!), hit his head, has suffered a memory lapse which has erased all of his hard, focused work on designing his choreography of his beautiful & moving O'Reilly Loofah Dances, The Series. We can only hope that he managed to capture, pre-fall, some of that beauty w/his home video camera. What a guy ... you'd think his Blonde Chorus of News Gals would gently remind him of his own past creativity. Tap awayyyyyy, Bill-o!

While I have no love for O'Reilly, I thought he was rather subdued and let his female cohosts do all the commenting. People should go on Fox and see for themselves, no big deal and the tape was not even racy. Slow news day, they had to talk about something. Which is kind of what happened here--LOL

My sweet old granma used to tell us, viz-a-viz our passed gas, "the Fox is the Finder." By this she meant that the person who casts the most aspersions on others is often the culprit himself. Given Mr. O'Reilly's sexist past (a mashed producer sued for oppression), I should think that he is up in arms about scantily clad nubiles because he, Mr. O'Reilly himself, is obsessed with Quentin quail.

Get your Salacious "news" right here on FAUX!
Posted by: LightningJoe on Oct 25, 2009 3:50 PM
Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Someone was asking a bit ago, why FAUX was being accused of preferring salacious stories to those with actual, um, content.

I offered up the Anna Nichole Smith merry-go-round as an example, but this one looks better as an example of their fellow-traveler "tendencies."

These folks rail against the "glorification" of gays (when we protest gay-hate killings), but they take fifteen minutes out of the time they charge the advertisers big bucks for, to repeatedly air footage that (they hope) will make old white guys' dicks stand up long enough to make them protest that fact.

Personally, I don't think they should be putting a local school event on TV, in order to dredge up yet another FAUX-outrage against the expression of normal sexuality.

Women DO exist, in this culture, and they ROCK. Don't try to make me, an ethical, respectful man, ashamed of taking pleasure in the sight of a shapely young body. That's WHY the dressed up and danced that way!

In any event, guilt-tripping sexual attraction only works with Evangelicals.
