Britney Spears: "F.U.C.K. Me"

Posted by Tana Ganeva, AlterNet at 11:11 AM on March 15, 2009.

A new video for Britney Spears' controversial "If You Seek Amy" just premiered. Unsurprisingly, the PTC does not approve of the song.

The video for Britney Spears’ controversial single "If You Seek Amy" just premiered. If you’re interested in why the PTC freaked out when the song was originally released, say the title really fast (preferably loudly, with your easily-scandalized grandmother or pastor in the room.)

The clever disguise, however, did not fool the discerning culture warriors at the Parents Television Council.

Said the eagle-eyed Tim Winter, President of PTC:

"This may sound Yogi Berra-ish, but Britney’s song is a double-entendre with only one meaning.  There is no misinterpreting the lyrics to this song; and it’s certainly not about a girl named Amy."

There doesn’t appear to be a girl named Amy in the video either, which adds credence to Winter's astute observation. Instead, the video features some very attractive, very thin people assembling their clothes post-orgy and some standard (and awesome) Britney-gyrating/hair-flinging/boob-spilling. Really, the PTC should reconsider their stance: where else will kids learn such useful lessons about orgy etiquette, or the polite way to ask strangers to have one night stands with you? Oh yeah, probably their junior high school cafeteria.

Anyway, in a recent article Frank Rich noted that now that Americans have real problems -- e.g. the tanking economy, two wars, etc. -- moral scolds like the PTC will no longer command the type of public attention they once did. Rich points out that Obama overturned the global gag rule and the ban on stem cell research without too much crying from conservative quarters. And, last year a court threw out the fine leveled at CBS for the ”wardrobe-malfunction-gate” – if you remember that whole thing, the FCC acted after much hair pulling and letter writing by assholes like the PTC ( and if you think it’s unfair to call the PTC assholes, remember: by focusing attention on indecency -- things like boobs -- organizations like the PTC distract the public from real media issues and allow the FCC to do things like eviscerate media ownership regulations).

And really, there hasn’t been TOO much controversy swirling around the Britney Spears video, except of course the kind being generated by news organizations excited about the traffic potential of headlines that contain “Britney Spears” and “F.U.C.K Me” ... Here's the video. Enjoy!

Digg!

Step right up! PTC crawls on its belly like a reptile!

Britney and the PTC are both products of the conservative Bible Belt.

I am neither of the age group, value persuasion, nor regional demographic, for the video or PTC reaction to speak to me personally. I feel like a Martian observing Earth culture when I watch it and read the PTC reaction.

It seems she is rebelling (for profit) against Bible Belt values. The PTC reaction is giving her (and themselves) free publicity. They are each benefitting.

From my perspective, the exhibition of both parties is that of America's Bible Belt performing a public masturbation ritual.

Also, it was pointed out to me that the video's conclusion is cut off here. As it continues, she walks outside in her conservative dress with something looking like a pie, to be greeted by her preppy husband and 2 clean-cut kids, looking very Palinesque, revealing that what seemed a den of iniquity on the inside was a modest, perfectly-manicured suburban home from the outside. She shares the "pie" with a horde of media/papparazzi who were gathered just outside their front yard's picket fence. The pointed social commentary makes me wonder why someone decided to cut that out of this presentation.

Can't I be against both sides in this one? Big record label vs. puritanical parents. Yikes.

I mean seriously, people. What a horrifying grating sound. And maybe blame the choreographers not her, but either way, the dancing also sucks! the video deserves a warning but for none of the reasons the PTA or PTC or whoever the fuck they are says..... HOW ABOUT A WARNING THAT SHE CANT SING OR DANCE?

With Justify My Love. Not to mention that the vocoder/reverb effect makes Britney sound like a washed up Mouseketeer having just sucked down one too many hits from a helium balloon. Heavy sigh.

Adolescent attitudes to sexuality in the music biz? Say it ain't so! This is about as creative as the Canadian bland 'April Wine' who shocked, I say SHOCKED! us in the late 1970's with the song 'If You See Kay'. At least this time it's a little more entertaining to watch. But only just.

More manufactured outrage on tap? NEXT!

washed up, drug addicted, no-talent-to-begin- with pop princess and you need to stage a "come back."

What strategy would you choose?

Personally, I'd vote for the "let's make a song/video as sexy as possible so hopefully no one will notice that I can't sing worth shit" philosophy of music/entertainment.

I bet she scores a home run with that brilliant, tried and true strategy.

The only legitimate shock over this is that Britney was able to lose the weight necessary and stop over medicating herself long enough to wiggle (dance) convincingly enough to make all those adolescent hard ons real and not as fake as this "music."

It sucks being old.

Granny's luv note to Jon Stewart Go get a chuckle!

Granny

I'm not into her music but you guys have lost your minds. I'm not from USA and i'm so amazed of some these controversies... please, just do something better. Like drinking a beer. That's a lot better.
And don't say she can't sing. She's not the best but it's retarded to say she can't sing.
I've seen her best and worse live moments. She's more of a performer so...
but anyway..

Have you heard the rest of the music? Are you mad about seeking Amy but about licking or sucking lollipop is ok. Try 50Cent, Lil Wayne, Pussycat Dolls(Beep)... etc..

the funny thing is that i'm listening the song "Paula Cole - Feelin' Love"

And i don't like the way the "old people"(how they call themselves) are so mad about "our" music. We have the right to change. You had changes and your parents maybe didn't agree. Please try to understand your kids. We know about sex more than you. Trust me!
We are way more informed. Just one hand movement and we can find any information.

Please stop being mad at the next generation.

not to mention that your "perfect" 1980 times had some things going on similar to this...
was that April Wine who gave us "Child's Garden" and then sang If You See Kay..?

i think you're mad because you can't go back in time and be young again.
but that's the life...
