The Office Of Inspector General and Office of Professional Responsibility at the Department of Justice have issued a joint inspection report regarding two of the most prestigious fast track programs to DOJ career hire status -- and the politicized hiring selection process that has been in place for the last few years. Readers will recall testimony from Monica Goodling, Alberto Gonzales, Bradley Schlozman, Kyle Sampson and many others on these issues.

The full report is available as a PDF here.  From the report summary, beginning on page 92:

...[W]e concluded that McDonald committed misconduct and violated Department policies and civil service law by considering political or
ideological affiliations in assessing Honors Program and SLIP candidates. (93)

[W]e concluded that Elston violated federal law and Department policy by deselecting candidates based on their liberal affiliations. (94)

We also concluded that Elston committed misconduct, and violated federal law and Department policy, when he deselected candidates and denied appeals based on his perception of the political or ideological affiliations of the candidates. (96)

We also concluded that OARM Director DeFalaise did not adequately or timely address the concerns that were brought to his attention concerning the Screening Committee's deselections. (96)

Finally, we concluded that Acting Associate Attorney General Mercer did not adequately address the concerns
that were brought to his attention by several senior Department officials that the Screening Committee's deselections appeared to have been politicized. (97)...

[A]n OARM employee ... recalled that one of the [deselected] candidates she raised to DeFalaise's attention was first in his law school class at Georgetown University, had clerked for a federal district court judge, and was currently clerking for a Second Circuit judge. [footnote 41: This candidate also had worked as a law clerk for Senator Russell Feingold, a Democrat, and for Human Rights Watch, but the OARM employee does not recall pointing out the candidate's political or ideological affiliations to DeFalaise at this time.] (59-60)...

  [Records of applicants destroyed]

The Committee used paper copies of the applications on which Fridman and McDonald made handwritten notations about the applicants, but those documents were destroyed prior to the initiation of our investigation. (68,69)  (emphasismine)

Allow this to soak in for a moment: documentary evidence in personnel files at the US Department of Justice was destroyed, including notes on hiring decisions and other pertinent documents which are generally kept in all cases for review by employers nationwide should there be discrimination or other claims which require later review. They were destroyed. As in missing, taken out of the files, not there...before the OIG and the OPR could look at them.

There will be a lot more on this to come, but that stood out like a big flashing sign to me -- people at the department of justice destroyed evidence in a matter being investigated within the department by the OIG. Jeebus, we are going to have a lot of work to do cleaning up after these asshats.

Digg!

So - what is John McCain's stand on the obvious corruption and politicalization of the Justice Department????

(and yes the spell checker is out of operation!)

Where's Rove and Bush in this?

Does anyone think Alberto Gonzalez or any other Attorney General thought of this scheme on his own? Of course it was Karl Rove's plan, and Bush went along with it. Check every other federal program and you'll probably see the same hiring practices. Illegal and they don't care, it's part of the plan.

Oh wait one more tactic if Congress wants to investigate and tries to supeona you FLIP THEM THE BIRD confident that even if they refer the case to the DOJ it will do NOTHING ( See Mukassey )

Another law broken, by the wholesale law breakers. The real scandal is that no one will be prosecuted. Not even by a new Democratic administration which, in the Pelosi mold, will have too many other important things to do, to keep even this "on the table."

The solution to this broken government...

is wisely cited in the writings of Thomas Jefferson (who is rolling over in his grave, I'm sure, at the lawlessness of this administration!):

"...God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion.
The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is
wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts
they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions,
it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. …
And what country can preserve its liberties, if it’s rulers are not
warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of
resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as
to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost
in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
It is its natural manure..."

And we have enough "manure" that we're drowning in it!

It is EXPECTED of us to overthrow the liars and criminals who occupy Washington when the truth is exposed. We cannot let this stand!

How far we are from what was once envisioned for the governance of this country!

Lawyers, as guardians of justice??

It's comforting, even heart-warming, to watch the fair and impartial workings of our "Justice" Department. I'm sure that our schools are teaching all about this sorry episode to our starry-eyed students, right?

How soon the idealism of youth must give way to the cynicism of age and reality. It may be hard to accept but the fact is that we're basically dishonest and our government reflects that, from the highest office down to the dog-catcher.

which simply means 'nothing will be done.' And that is the real shame and the real blame! We can no longer count on our representatives to act on our behalf. So shy are we paying them the big bucks (and all that health insurance)?

NOT JUST DOJ

This same thing has happened in every federal agency. BLM, NPS, USFS, USFWS, HUD, etc., ad nauseum. Each agency has taken unspoken steps to prevent the advancement of non-Republican employees and created a workplace where toeing the 'party-line' is valued above performance.

I left early, after 20 years of government sevice, for this very reason.

...That Albert the Whore was selling his sorry ass to please his idiot boss? And is anyone surprised that Mukasey is doing the same thing? But I'm a reasonable person. After a quick trial, lasting say 5 minutes, they (Bush etc.) should be hanged on TV in Times Square. I'd go to NY to see that.

that I can keep a lid on my own outrage until AFTER the elections. I know a whole lot of people who have left the Democratic Party, as I intend to do--but NOT UNTIL AFTER THE ELECTIONS, when I can do some DESELECTING of my own.

I beg of you--those who have in disgust, left the Democratic for the Independent Party--change back--just until after the election!!!

At least, that way, we can all get back at these Dem traitors, by voting them all out of office! Then the day after that, --we can go back to the Independent Party.

And if the Republicans who have left THEIR party in disgust, if THEY do the same and then vote AGAINST all their candidates--that will make ONE HELL OF A STATEMENT, by the electorate of both parties! And--you know the best part?

With nobody in power sure about how any of their constituents will vote--there goes, rigging the voting machines!

If I can wait--YOU can wait. And help me do my part to CLEAN HOUSE & SENATE!!!!
