Last night, unmarried women helped put Barack Obama in the White House and a Democratic majority in Congress.

Although single women tend to be far more progressive than their married counterparts, they are far less likely to vote. Yesterday that changed: single women voted in unprecedented numbers and they overwhelmingly chose Obama.

According to a CNN poll, unmarried women backed Obama by a 70 to 29 percent margin -- a 44 percent difference between single and married women. As the research firm Greenberg Quinlan Rosner notes, "if not for the overwhelming support of unmarried women, John McCain would have won the women's vote and with it, the White House."

Unmarried women also helped Democrats take Congress, voting for Democratic candidates by a 64 to 29 percent margin.

Among the women I know well enough to have conversations about "why", I have NEVER heard so many women express so many strong opinions and intentions as during this election.

The complete disgust and feeling of betrayal felt by so many was clearly evident in the numbers.

The cheney/bush REAL "axis of evil" had proven itself to be not only disinterested in the Americans woman's hopes, dream and concerns, they insulted them at every turn.
They typically imperiously TALKED DOWN to the American woman and TOLD them what was right(?) for them.
They stole their human rights and caused this legitimate resentment and anger in American women.

The American woman was a woman spurned.
It was payback time.
I am not at all surprised and, these bastards got what they deserved.

I do believe that Pres. Obama will prove to be a decent man and respective of us as human beings, something which was of no concern to the filth in the current regime.
I do not doubt that Laura will leave the creep after they're out of the offal orifice, if she hasn't already surreptitiously moved out.
I believe that Barack and Michelle Obama have a good marriage and that no sort of hanky panky exists.
I have no doubt that he respects his wife as a person and that this is his way.

The term "cathartic" has been used to describe what has occured.
That is an apt description as, the definition is an adjective meaning "to cleanse the bowels".
Yes, we will be getting rid of the shit on innauguration day.
I feel a calmness and connection to my America which I have not felt since the days of JFK's time.

For me, it was a no brainer. I could vote for someone that wanted to help Lily Ledbetter, or someone who didn't. McCain said helping Ledbetter would be a boon for the trial lawyers, but I really don't care if lawyers make some money while we straighten out the gender wage gap. McCain said that the gap between men's and women's earnings is because "women need more education and training". Some do, some don't, but it's foolish to pretend that's the entire problem, and to offer up no solutions.
