McCain Blames Feminists for Campaign's Slipping Support

And apparently they're mighty proud of it.

As any long-time feminist knows, we are to blame for everything.  So as you might imagine, I was truly excited to read in my morning paper that John McCain is blaming attacks on Sarah Palin’s credentials on the “feminist left” as well as the liberal media.  Memo to John, just call us feminists, there is no such thing as a “feminist right” although there are some anti-abortion wingnuts who try to make you think there is.  But I digress. As a participant in the feminist movement and the liberal media, I’d like to thank the Senator for acknowleging our hard work on this issue, it is something to be proud of!

However, as Amie Newman at RH Reality Check points out, never mind the historic value of both the Clinton and Palin candidacies, women’s issues are as invisible as  ever during this campaign except for such vote losing comments as McCain’s utter contempt for the air quoted issue of maternal health.  The good news is that hey guess what, women can not only vote but also run for office because, wait for it…  feminists were instrumental in securing those rights.  Newman lists a few other notable items on the feminist agenda:

  • Advocating for the right to affordable and accessible health care for low-income women.

  • Advocating to ensure funding for women internationally to receive critical family planning and contraceptive services that, in many cases, save their lives.

  • Ensuring equal pay for equal work.

  • Working for paid family leave for all U.S. families.

  • Advocating for teen pregnancy prevention programs and programs that ensure young mothers and their new babies have access to social service programs like Women Infants and Children.

  • Expanding health insurance coverage for low-income children.

And that, Senator McCain, is a small part of  the feminist agenda that in your ignorance has cost you the election.

...right-wing feminists.

They would be anti-porn feminists Andrea Dworkin and Catherine MacKinnon. who were proud to make common cause with the Christian Right in their fight against pornography.

Before she discovered that he was a porn user, Clarence Thomas' nomination was supported by Catherine Mackinnon. And Dworkin supported the war in Iraq, celebrating it at a dinner with Christopher Hitchens, David Frum and anti-gay marriage advocate Maggie Gallagher.

Dworkin said that the Left was worse than the Right, because, according to her, right-wing men only wanted to possess one women, whereas left-wing men wanted to possess women as a collective whole.

A 75 pound bear cub was found shot in the head and decorated with Obama signs at the Western Carolina University campus this morning. That is not a joke.

The 'explanation' floated against this is it is faked. I don't think so.

McCain has bigger problems then feminists, like criminal indictments. His party is going down.

Alec Baldwin blames feminists for his marital troubles. Alec, long before the feminists, there was Mickey Rooney. Neither John McCain, Alec or Mickey like women in general very much either.

When I became part of the movement in 1970, we were called a "communist plot to overthrow the government" among other things. I seem to recall Phyllis Schlafley saying that, but I could be wrong.

McCain Blames Feminists for Campaign's Slipping Support

Uhm, the article linked to actually said "McCain blamed the feminist left for criticizing Sarah Palin since he announced his choice for a running mate" - which seems like something of the understatement of the century since it's undeniably true.

...a small part of the feminist agenda that in your ignorance has cost you the election.

I don't think anyone other than Ms. Marshall was under the illusion that those for whom "the feminist agenda" is the only thing that matters were ever going to vote for McCain in the first place, and thus her hubris is a bit misplaced.

Hey, but it's always entertaining to watch Democrats get all worked up over the seemingly obvious fact that Republicans aren't Democrats, just like it's entertaining to watch Republicans get worked up when Democrats show themselves not to be Republicans. What a silly, stupid racket.

women’s issues are as invisible as ever during this campaign

Once again it pains me to point out that the taller candidate has won every time since women got the vote -- the two exceptions being the last two elections, which we know were extremely fishy if not downright rigged and stolen.

The tall guy, chosen by the party of women, is winning yet again, so maybe "women's issues" are as visible as ever, just not in a way Marshall is capable of seeing.

BTW - there are at least several feminist groups which are not left-wing/liberal, but I'd take a flying leap and guess Marshall wouldn't consider those women real feminists. My list of the varieties of types of feminism now numbers 118, so there's plenty of room for any woman to call herself a feminist, and you'd think someone like Marshall would be celebrating a world where women and their concerns dominate everything, where women are everything that matters, and everything is now some sort of "female-ism".

See, this is where "feminists" went wrong. Of course you can be conservative and a feminist--in fact, feminism is the ultimate conservatism in my book. But "feminists"--a better term would be Blue State Feminists--think that tying feminism to a specific political agenda that most American women do not agree with is somehow a right they possess.

Sorry, there are proud Red State Feminists everywhere you look. And we are determined to make sure that Blue State Feminists are no longer able to monopolize feminism for themselves. For many years, we had no idea what we were--we certainly weren't Blue State Feminists--until Sarah Palin. Now we know you can be a no-nonsense, non-whiny feminist with 5 kids who doesn't believe abortion or same-sex marriage are the answer to women's problems. Amen, Sister Sarah!

Say it loud, sing it proud--I am a Red State Feminist!

These are the same women who laughed and scoffed at US while we read Ms.magazine. Who spent more time talking about how big their boobs were instead of what they want to be.
Pleae remember there have been Women who have actively worked against the womens movement- should be at home watching soaps and eating Bon Bons, instead of struggling in th eWrok World....Find a Rich man and Settle down. IN HS they were the 'Prisses'.In College we called them those attaining their 'MRS'Degree.some of us have even called them "Mom".
Just because you refer to yourself as something does not mean others would.
True Equal rights would result in Responsiblities and Responsiblities mean work.
these Women want to keep us as 'kept' as possible, it's how they make their Living, Scraping what ever the boys leave on the floor for them and they expect the rest of Us to do the same!

Why on Earth should I vote for a guy who apparently thinks women are put on this planet to service whatever desire he might have at the moment and if they can't be decorative he wants no part of!

Sarah Palin is an idiot and that's why we're going after her.

I am a 60 yr. old male who is in tune with the feminist agenda, or any other groups agenda that says we all need to be treated fairly and equally. If there is any criteria that allows the discrimination of any group, then it is only a matter of time before that discrimination is aimed at your group. As to Palin....the truth of the matter is that she is not being attacked by anyone that I know of because she is a woman. She has been given deferential treatment by everyone because they do not want to be perceived as chauvinistic. I am of the belief that this is just as sexist as if she were be attacked because she is a woman. Anyone, everyone, who puts themselves out there as someone is is ready to be the leader of the free world should be scrutinized by those whom he or she seeks to lead. On no level does Palin meet even the most minimal of standards necessary for this position.

When treated with a measure of respect and affection, women return it manifold. This simple fact seems to have escaped the rethug presidential wannabe. I hope feminists are really the reason for mcshame's sinking ship. It would serve him right.

with the same views as Palin? The eye candy factor? Do you honestly think she could get away with those idiot answers if she was wearing flats instead of knee high boots with four inch heels? She is the typical sexually repressed Republican males wet dream. At any rate the ones who don't like little boys.
