Sarah Palin's Not-So-Secret Political Advisor: Todd Palin

Posted by Kathy G, The G-Spot at 3:02 PM on September 15, 2008.

Is the spouse of any other governor in America regularly cc'd on the governor's emails?

I'm happy to see that the role Todd Palin plays in his wife's administration is finally beginning to get some serious scrutiny. Todd Palin appears to be his wife's most important adviser by far. But he hasn't been elected, nor does he hold any official position in his wife's government. He appears to be enormously powerful, yet he's essentially unaccountable -- and that's a scary combination.

Todd Palin has no qualifications in politics whatsoever that I am aware of -- yet his role is unprecedented. Does the spouse of any other governor in America regularly attend important government meetings? Is the spouse of any other governor in America regularly cc'd on the governor's emails? Is the spouse of any other governor in America so deeply involved in the workings of their spouse's administration?  Does the spouse of any other governor in America participate so extensively in virtually every political decision their spouse makes?

People were worried that Bill Clinton would have undue influence in a Hillary administration. But Bill's credentials to advise his wife on political matters are (pardon the awful play on words) unimpeachable.

But Todd Palin?  Excuse me, but just where the hell  does he get off?  He never even went to college. He's a professional snow machine racer, fer chrissakes!

We should be giving Todd Palin considerably more scrutiny. And the media should be asking Sarah Palin whether, if she is elected vice president, Todd will continue to be her top adviser, and will continue to attend high-level meetings, be cc'd on official correspondence, and be intimately involved all high-level political decisions.

Todd's hyper-involvement is downright weird. The fact that only now is it beginning to raise eyebrows is proof positive of what a complete and unadulterated farce the nomination of this laughably clueless, dangerously ignorant, and manifestly unqualified woman has been. That so many people have seemed to shrug their shoulders at the clear signs that, in her professional life, Palin is utterly dominated by her own husband, is ample evidence that this woman simply isn't taken seriously. People don't judge her by the same standards as they would any other governor. And that is alarming, to say the least.

The other reason Todd's role gets so little scrutiny is that Palin's legion of wingnut fans seem just fine with it. They smugly assume that men should be in charge anyway. So to them, if Todd Palin is the true power behind the throne, that's A-OK. The dominating role he plays in her professional life is, for them, a feature, not a bug.

Digg!

Sarah Palin's religious affiliations would require that she inform Mr. Palin of everything she does. In their world that's what a good, obedient wife does. Begging the question, if she were to become president would she be required to share 'everything' with him. Would her religious beliefs trump her constitutional oath? The lady has entirely too much baggage. Thanks, ANNA

AS bad as President Sarah Palin sounds, think of President Todd Palin. It's like having dry ice run finely over your spine, isn't it?

Well, given that Sarah Palin is completely unqualified to be vice president, I can see that it follows that Todd is also unqualified to give advice. But, let's remember, Rosalynn Carter attended most meetings her husband held, and I believe Hillary did also (or at least she attended one that some distant relative of my husband's was at). I believe that both women, not to mention other First Ladies, were advisors to their husbands. Of course, if policy wasn't their forte, they might at least provide common sense. I see nothing wrong with spouses advising a president (or vice president, if he/she has anything to be advised on) so I'd skip the complaining about Todd Palin and concentrate on a vice presidential candidate who has little or no understanding of the economy, foreign affairs, the environment, agricultural issues, financial affairs, or educational needs.

...and ending with Clinton. RE: healthcare "reform", or in other words an anti-choice crusade on healthcare in this country.

So, she's not a maverick. She's following in the footsteps of one W.J. Clinton, and listening to her spouse? Oh, the dread horror of it all...

There are lots of good reasons not to elect McCain. His viable choice for vice-president doesn't appear to be one of them. At least she isn't another time-tested anti-civil rights Washington insider like jObiden or the Dick.

er, Cheney.

..I had the same thoughts and was wondering if/when someone else would too.

The fact that Todd Palin visited Monegan to discuss Wooten totally creeped me out. You are 100% right about his seemingly inappropriate role in the governor's professional life.
The Dems need to play hardball and bring this to the fore.

When Did Todd Palin leave the Alaskan Independence Party ? This is a Party that advocates Secession by Alaska . Kind of IRONIC that the REPUBLICAN party which fought the Civil War to PRESERVE the Union should have someone of this background as the husband of the Vice Presidential Canidate

Fundamentalist Christian dogma dictates that the MAN is in charge. The wife does as she is told. There may be conflicts, but in the end the final decision belongs to the husband. If Palin becomes President (a strong possibility) we will have an unqualified, unknown and unelected oil company employee calling the shots from the shadows... an even more frightening prospect than Sarah Palin.

Since when did it not become ok to bounce ideas off the person you have chosen to spend the rest of your life with? Since when does someone's views reflect on their spouse? Last I checked, we all have the ability to vote for whoever we want and side with whatever party we want regardless of who we marry. He was a member of the aip, but that was the past. He is a native, who probably wanted his land and resources for his people, instead of sending it down to the lower 48. People change over time, their views change over time. Is that so wrong? By the way, I am an Obama supporter. I just think oppinions outside of your political affiliation is not a bad thing. Republicans, democrats, and independants all need to work together to bring about change and quit bitching about the other side. We have a inept moron in office and congress is too busy renaming post offices to pass laws. We all need to pull together and then change can happen, but until then we will be reading about Sarah Palin clubbing baby seals as told by an anonymous meth head, peta is outraged!

Palin includes her husband in everything, and the evidence is on the Dailysource.org

They also have great resource about Sarah Palin, including videos of her with Todd making government decisions together -

http://dailysource.org/palin

It has in-depth research, audio clips, videos, and links to hundreds of articles, including many from newspapers and TV stations in Alaska. It has rare footage, including her telling the ‘08 convention of the Alaska Independence Party, whose aim is to give Alaska a vote on seceding from the U.S., to “keep up the good work.”

The level of research is tremendous. The site’s editors and volunteers include an Emmy-award winning CNN reporter, the former operating editor of the Christian Science Monitor’s web site, the former head of NPRs News Blog and the Executive Director of the Online News Association -

http://dailysource.org

Please tell anyone about this who might want to know more.
