New Jersey Voters Wrongly Purged

Many things can go wrong in elections - including before Election Day. New Jersey seems to be the latest poster child for high-tech snafus. The AP is reporting that the state sent 300,000 letters to people telling them they were not registered to vote, but in many cases they are qualified voters.

The problem is not confined to New Jersey. Under federal election reforms passed in 2002, every state is supposed to create statewide databases of its registered voters. The problem is not just that these new mega-lists contain errors, as is the case in New Jersey, but what state election officials are doing with the data.

In New Jersey, state election official apparently compared the lists to other statewide databases, such as motor vehicle records, to see if voters had moved and therefore should be removed from voter rolls. That practice, which also has been done in Louisiana, Michigan and Kansas in 2008, is illegal, according to voting rights lawyers who say it does not follow federal rules for purging voters.

The National Voter Registration Act says any voter who has not voted in one federal election should get a non-forwardable post card or notice saying they will be considered an inactive voter if they don't vote. If that individual receives two mailings to the same address, over two federal elections, only those are returned as non-deliverable, only then can election officials purge that individual from voter rolls.

Whether voting rights organizations such as the Brennan Center for Justice at nearby NYU Law School will sue remains to be seen. You can be sure that New Jersey, like Louisiana, Kansas and Michigan, will not be the last state making this mistake in 2008.

If Michigans General Goes ANYTHING like Our Primary it will not just be Repubicans who will be facing PERSONAL legal problems - it will also be State Dem leaders.
They have had since '00 to clear up the Election fraud, glitches, and suppression issues. A repeat or shade of doubt regarding it's validity, should be considered to be the Fault of State leaders,Esp Sec of States. We will not only seek to throw them out- but will seek to have them criminally prosecuted for TREASON!
Tampering with a Democracy's voting rights is the apex of Crimes against the citizens Consitutional rights. It is A High Crime, In a DEMOCRACY!
This buck will not be passed to Just the CheneyClan- it will be handed Up through the Ranks of Public Servants who have not only been derelict in their Duty , but have betrayed the Oath and citizens of this country via their States unwillingness to address election standards & practices.
If Mi mysteriously goes 'Red' this year.. it will not just be the Repug Sec of State Land I will be seeking charges against it will be also Our states Gov, AG, Senators & Reps (state & US). I will be looking at city managers, city councils and Mayors and What they did not Do to assure a valid election process!
so it is not just this admin who will be held responsible for any 'inconsistencies' or irregularities, because the voters lists were purged unjustly,Proven error laden Diebold machines were used, or Un tested touch screens, or punch hole drops were not cleaned out to assure thorough punches, or shortage of ballots, or long waiting lines....It will be the STATE OFFICIALS Who will be Legally Liable.
BETTER SHARPEN YOUR TOOLS STATE PUBLIC SERVANTS,BECAUSE WE HAVE!

that the Republic Party has to lie, cheat and steal in order to win.

Problem is, these same old efforts to steal another election is well-known, and there are groups (ACLU, etc.) challenging these tactics in court.

Pathetic fucking Elephants!
