Palin Laughs as Opponent Is Called "Bitch," "Cancer," Mocked For Her Weight

Early this year, an op-ed in the Anchorage Daily News ripped into Gov. Sarah Palin's appearance on a morning "shock jock" radio show as "plain and simple one of the most unprofessional, childish and inexcusable performances I've ever seen from a politician."

So what happened? Palin has repeatedly feuded with the state's Senate president, Lyda Green, over a wide range of legislation. Last January, Palin appeared on "The Bob and Mark Show," whose host Bob Lester despises Green. That's when the trouble started:

Early on in the conversation before Palin started to crack up, Lester referred to Sen. Green as a jealous woman and a cancer. Palin, who knows full well Lyda Green is a cancer survivor, didn't do what any decent person would do, say, "Bob, that's going too far."

But as the conversation moved on, Lester intensified his attack on Green.

Lester questioned Green's motherhood, asking Palin if the senator cares about her own kids. Palin laughs.

Then Lester clearly sets the stage for what he is about to say by warning his large audience and Palin. He says, "Governor you can't say this but I will, Lyda Green is a cancer and a b----." Palin laughs for the second time.

What were teenage boys thinking when they heard the governor laugh at someone being called a b----? How about the teenage girls who look up to Palin. What did they think when they heard her laugh?

But there is more. Lester then describes Green's chair as big and cushy. A clear reference to the senator's weight. Palin laughs a third time. She's just having a grand old time.

Palin was clearly enjoying every second of Lester's vicious attack on her political rival.

Here's the audio:

As the Daily News op-ed notes, Palin later released a statement reading, "The Governor called Senator Green to explain that she does not condone name-calling in any way and apologized if there was a perception that the comment was attributed to the Governor." Then again, at the end of the call in question, Lester asked if he could come visit Palin, and she responded, "I'd be honored to have you."

So what does the incident actually say about Palin? If nothing else, it plays into the developing perception that she has a ruthless streak when taking on her political opponents, whether they be opposing legislators or state/local employees.

Digg!

She's got to be a sociopath. Which of course makes her well suited to be a cheerleader for the Republican cause.

Governor Palin has been attacking people since at least her mayoral days. Somebody on the blogosphere has this stuff. As mayor of her tiny town she made personal enemies of six of the town's officials. She got rid of two directly and two more were pushed out. As welfare collector, er, public official at Alaska Oil and Gas she made a calculated political move gutting the state Republican Party chair. As governor she had to get rid of one official and promote a known sexual harasser who would do her bidding, in order to get a state cop fired (it was her brother in law).

This nice lady with the assault weapon on the target practice range is trouble! Next week I suspect she's going to stab 20% of the national Republican Party in the back.

Plenty of folks likewise think John McCain should not be running as he has been treated and released for cancer in the past.

I rather think there are a ton of reasons to exclude him from my consideration as a good candidate, without having to relegate cancer survivors to second-class citizens.

If you're looking for a reasoned, civil, or even a sensible tone among politicians and their fan clubs--"journalists", boggers, and commentators on the so-called "right" or "left"--then you're apt to be looking quite a spell. You see, it's about winning...or, more precisely being popular and not feeling like a loser. National policy takes a backseat to feeling good about what you're being fed and moneyed interests that you'll never hear anything about.

Palin probably has an ego that is more important than human life. This is not just because of her physical profile, I doubt I would make a judgement solely based on that. But, putting what I have observed over the last few years into the "equation", I do believe it is so.

And the last thing we need is a VP whose ego is more important than human life. I think we should just ban this election all together, because on the other side, if Obama'a idea of change is just a new color of a noose to wear around your neck all day, then such a vile request should not be accomadated to in civil economies and civil governments.

Yesterday I was listening to a group of men talking about Sarah Palin. Old geezer types, Republicans. One of them had told me in the past that he was planning to vote for Obama, but I overheard him telling his co-horts that he'd decided to vote for McCain because of his running mate, the "cutie," Sarah Palin. I continued to listen, and all of them were a lesson in human psychology. Because Palin is a "cutie" they believed she has "a lot of experience" in her political career, etc. Interestingly, the guy who said that turned out to be the father of a woman who just returned from living in Wasilla, Alaska. This guy didn't know, until I informed him, that Palin is the former mayor of Wasilla and that that is the extent of her "extensive experience" prior to her becoming Alaska's governor.

It is in the psychology of humans that they attribute intelligence, experience, higher morality and other virtues to physically attractive people more than to those who have only average looks.

In so many ways, McCain's choice of running mate was a brilliant move, unfortunately. There are even women voters fantasizing about McCain dying in office and Palin becoming the first woman president. Imagine, she would be the only president to have ever participated in a swimsuit competition. I'm appalled and disappointed in this country already; this doesn't help.

If that child is her daughters she'd better fess up.
I find her actions, according to her own story, on the day she gave birth Legally liable.
She endangered the life and well being of a premature child. One month early would send any Mom straight to medical help, not out on to a stage!Which delivery did she have a bigger commitment to- the speech!
Granted her claim is that she already knew the child had 'Down Syndrome'- Prove it!
Let's see the amniocentesis results. Or was the cause of this Oxygen Depeletion? Umbilical cord around it's neck? Fetal distress? How could she know if she was not hooked up to monitors? Or since she knew the child had developmental disabilities did she decide seeking medical attention was not a great priority- attempting her own 'late Term abortion'?
Every Woman should be on her ass- to either fess up she used her daughters child to 'spare' her the Humilation (Herself, family & daughter)of a Out of wedlock birth and/or as a Politcal tool, Or that she should face serious Charges for neglect, abuse & endangerment.
I am not impressed by her 'Birth' story ..I am PISSED!
What kind of woman like this will be an asset to single mothers? To Pro Life? To 'Transparency in Gov't'?

So someone acts like a gutless wonder (or worse) on shock-jock radio. So she didn't come to Green's defense -- that's cowardly behavior, but is it news? "VP candidate failed to defend political opponent" -- yeah, right: as news it's right up there with "Dog chases cat."

Another question: Why is it so hard for some AlterNet readers to criticize a female candidate without resorting to snide remarks about her looks or her supposedly run-amok hormones?

What this says is, "She's not ready."

Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
She's not ready, and it is questionable whether she ever will be.

Sarah Palin has been in politics long enough to know that sometimes an advocate will put you on the spot in public. Her laugh sounds like the nervous laugh of the secretary who's boss makes a crude remark in front of her. She doesn't know what to do - and as a result her response is inappropriate.

It would make sense that she would have reflected on what her response would be in a situation like this, and would be prepared as a result. It is deeply troubling that she was not.

There is a parallel event - when President Bush was told, "America is under attack," and sat impotently while thousands of Americans died. He didn't know what to do either, because he had never reflected on his duty in the most critical event a President can be faced with - one that has been well documented in books and movies since the '50s.

Just as we don't need "Bomb, bomb Iran," McCain with his finger on the switch, we don't need another President who doesn't know what to do when decisive action is required, even if that action is simply to get off his or her ass and make himself or herself available.

Suppose he does become the President (well, every country deserves its president !) and then within a year or two, or even within a few months he kicks the bucket and joins the lord. Does it mean Palin will be the next president ?!
God loves America indeed.

How does on respond to the argument that

palin has no less experience than Obama? I think Obama's much higher level of education (especially since he studied constitutional law) than palin carries a lot of weight, but obama has fewer years direct political experience than her , although her first eight years of experience were small time...big time small time! Obama's federal government experience also carries some weight, but he has been there for little time and half his time was spent campaigning.

After Obama betrayed his country with his FISA vote and started pandering to Israel and said he'd support 'faith-based' programs, I'm not sure I can vote for him, but a solid argument against palin would enable me to sway people away from mcshame at least. Politically, she represents all the evil (cruelty towards women, war, environmental destruction, the rich richer at the expense of the poor, you know, the "pro-life" agenda) any repug could want, but it would be nice to be able to sway them away from mcshame with the argument that his judgement is poor as shown by him choosing an unqualified person as VP.

But is she really any less qualified than the democratic presidential candidate?

We all know we women can be our own worst enemies and Sarah Palin is a prime example of a "Mean Girl". If you want respect as females we have to stop turning on each other and get real about important things. We are roughly 50% of the population and let we act like helpless children waiting for someone to fix things. I'm tired of strident, judgemental, exclusive, hypocritical and CRUEL women saying how the rest of us should live. And her underage child is pregnant - what does that tell you about her moral teachings as a parent and her moral responsibility for her daughters health? I.e STD's and HIV. If she can't teach her own children how to act responsibly she has no business being a leader, unless she means to lead us back to the stone age. When are we going to wake up and be the responsible stewards we say we are instead of the talking apes we are proving to be?

If I hear Miss Rice say one more time that "we could not have seen this coming" I'm going to scream! ALL politicians are arrogant, rich and non representative of the real world. They all think because we're not rich we're stupid and gullible and will believe anything they say. That is only true if we refuse to educate ourselves and continue to put our welfare in the hands of people who don't even see us as human. EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION. What it took to pass the 8th grade 100 years ago is what we now consider college level - that is how dumbed down we've gotten from laziness and a refusal to be responsible for our own actions. And you wonder why the world hates us? We squandered the Garden of Eden. We need a third party ASAP.

Neither McCain nor Palin ready...

Neither McCain nor Palin are ready for the supreme leader of the world. I'm leaning more and more toward the belief that McCain just simply is not educated enough, or intelligent enough, for the Presidency! He ranked fifth from the bottom in his class at Annapolis - what an insult to the American people that he now thinks he's ready to lead the world. Then he picks a 'cutie' from Alaska with far less qualifications than my own city mayor here in the states and thinks he can replace Hillary with her! Just one female for another! Ha! Ha! How very stupid! If he keeps recounting his years in the 'Hanoi Hilton' as necessary requirements to lead he's got to account for the fact that the other six hundred or so prisoners there with him are also ready and qualified! The day they were released by US forces there were 1249 purple hearts awarded, 958 bronze stars, 590 silver stars, 42 service crosses and 8 medals of honor. McCain got one silver star and one purple heart that he keeps bragging about while never mentioning any of the other awards to his fellow prisoners! What a braggart!!! No Way, No How, No McCain!!!! And Palin doesn't even deserve a mention!

They have done NOTHING to fix the election fraud and will go down in November.

At least you know what the Repukes stand for while the Democraps are trying to become more conservative. People can smell the p latitudinal fraud in Obama a mile away.

Get ready for Shrub II. Kudos to the Repukes...again.

This is so unbelievable. I am a cancer survivor and I find it very offensive that this woman could only find it in herself to laugh at such agregious remarks.

I don't care that Gov. Palin's unmarried daughter is pregnant. What I do care about is seeing a potential V.P. gleefully wielding a semi-automatic weapon. It turns my stomach. of every delusion and pathology in reactionary America. Willfully ignorant, full of barbaric medieval absolutism in place of rational, critical thought, unable to tolerate doubt, anti-intellectual, petty, vindictive and juvenile, desperate for peer approval and without shame or guilt because she is "redeemed in the blood of the lamb", puffed up with completely unfounded pride and virulent hatred and loathing for anything outside her nano-slim section of ideological bandwidth. This is who they are and she is their unapologetic figurehead.

It's good when one of these seemingly guileless totalitarian hacks erupts forth into the public consciousness. It's good when we see them as they are, not as they say they are. We should be thankful for her selection.
