Confirmed: McCain's VP Pick is Sarah Palin

The networks just confirmed McCain's vice presidential pick, "staunch conservative" Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

So much for the chance that he would choose a pro-choice running mate. Palin is part of a group that calls themselves "Feminists for Life."

The Republicans have never nominated a woman for their ticket. Elected in 2006, at 44 years old, she is also the youngest governor in Alaska history.

Joe Scarborough says the "conservative base will be thrilled."

Pat Buchanan calls it "the biggest political gamble in American political history." "That is not hyperbole."

As details of her biography trickle in, here's one: in 1984, Palin was runner up in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant.

Learn more here and, of course, here.

This pick is obviously a cynical ploy by McCain to grab those disgruntled Hillary supporters.
Hillary and other Dem women especially have to keep up the attacks on Palin.
Women concerned about their rights and America in general CANNOT afford to let this VP pick work to McCain's advantage!

Is she ready to lead? McCain has painted himself in a corner with choice because he has made experience (read: years of service) mean leadership. Palin has some interesting resume lines, inter-racial marriage, handicapped child, hunter, fishing...but since the critical issue with McCain's running mate is the high odds that the person will finish out his term - disaster. You can't make the experience argument stick with Palin - obviously - and everyone was looking for that given his health and age risks.

Seems Palin is a petty tyrant; was once under investigation by her own party for trying to fire a bother-in-law she didn't like. She does not have much going for her. McCain, or his puppet-masters, probably are thinking they are pretty clever about now. Hope it backfires on them.

Liberals get ready to lose again (even if Obama-Biden manages to win this ill-action).

Good luck!

Just when we are finally getting rid of oil men Bush and Cheney, we now have Palin of Alaska. 80% of the Alaskan econony is from oil and gas. Was it her management that lowered taxes in Alaska or was it an ecomony flush from inflated oil prices?

Yet another reason to vote for Obama.

I'm a bit bummed. Until now we had a huge edge over the Republicans when it came to comparing the women. Michelle and Biden's wife are beautiful, accomplished gals who make the power-shopping Cindy look like the cheap Barbie doll that she is. Palin clouds that equation because she too is a beautiful and accomplished gal, albeit a right-wing gun nut who wants to drill ANWAR. Still, she does a lot to salvage the image of GOP women. We'll hear more about her in years to come.

So Palin made a choice to have a Down Syndrome child. Now she wants to turn that choice over to the courts so that no other woman will be allowed to make that choice. I guess she doesn't trust other women to make their own decisions. Only weak women will support this ticket.

no, not that kind of boner. What a dud. He picks a woman because she has a vagina. He was going after those 18 million Hillary voters who also had a vagina, so that they could vote for a woman. Duhhh. Who knew that those voters voted for Hillary in a large part because of what she stood for and not necessarily because she had a vagina. How condescending to women to think that they would blindly vote for him because he had a woman on the ticket. The really hard line Hillary supporters are confirmed feminist who wouldn't vote for this straight laced Stepford Wife with a 10 foot pole.

It has just struck me that this woman, whose political history runs: PTA, mayor of a town of 9,000, first-term governor of (perhaps) the least populous state in our country, has accepted the nomination because she does not comprehend the magnitude of the position. She is too stupid to recognize that she is not qualified, and that the demands of the position of VP and, god-forbid, President require more than her curriculum vitae. I want to see her SAT scores!

BIG OIL'S OFFICIAL BITCH! This broad wants to put an oil rig on every last patch of Alaskan tundra and doesn't give a rat's behind if the whole place melts into the Pacific the weekend after she becomes VP. This will be the biggest environmental disaster in the history of the planet. (I'm not exaggerating here.) She's an environmentalist's absolute nightmare. Just a horror!

... McCain is the designated loser.... and this pick solidifies that position. Obama is the winner and you can all celebrate now......

Remember, if you want to know what the enemy is thinking go visit their sites or get on their email list and you find out what is going on inside their camps.

Well, the repubs are livid. They think he ensured his loss now with her as the VP selection. I have copied just one link for an example of what they are saying.

http://www.jonchristianryter.com/Plain_Talk/080829.html

Other sites are saying that he needed to pick a southerner to carry the south which he desperately needs since all the big states would naturally go to obama.

Now they are thoroughly convinced he is in this to lose. I am sure of it as well. It appears the CFR is the only org that was sure Obama would win cause they gave him 6 CFR advisors while all the others only had one or two. I guess they knew something we didn't know.

In addition someone on the right leaked out weeks ago that she was going to be the VP nominee. At least that is what I read today when I saw the announcement. No one believed it and McCain denied it, but here she is. Wondering if the CFR is grooming her for something bigger later on down the road. Could be...... this sure doesn't make any sense otherwise.

There is actually no viable or political reason for him to choose her at all. None. If you think he did it to get Hillary's disenfranchised women voters, well, then he is not listening to his advisors because his base didn't like Hillary because she was exactly the kind of woman this person is. Aggressive, hard working and ambitious. This does not fit with the traditional GOP's voters profile on womens issues.

It doesn't matter about all the stuff talked about here, the GOP are basically sexists at heart, so their constituents will not vote for her and in fact, may lose him even more votes than he was about to do himself.

He is the designated loser, anyone take me up on that $20 bet that Obama would win and by a landslide??? He is the designated winner. Now, if they do not have a rebellion at the GOP convention, then I will get the $20. LOL

About 100 years ago, the NYS republicans wanted to get rid of an annoying young reformer named Theodore Rosevelt. They nominated him for vice president. The president, McKinley, was shot and killed. Have the Alaska republicans set up a repeat of history?

It's about time we got back to the good old fashioned values. You know back in the day when you picked a VP because they were absolutely no challenge to your image. A person who is willing to give up four years of their lives to look like a miniature puppet. Well Dick Chaney sure changed that tradition. Well actually as payback would have it GWB had the same power with Reagan. At least John McCain understands where America went wrong. The Vice President takes the Orders. That's an order Sarah Palin.

She isn't really what she appears to be.
