Talk About an Electra Complex: Did Cindy McCain Marry Her Father?

Holy moly.

This is Cindy and John McCain in 1982, two years after their marriage. McCain is in the center:

(Arizona Republic photo by Ken Akers / November 2, 1982)

This is James Hensley, Cindy McCain's father:

This is also James Hensley:
He was a young husband and father before he went off to war. Wounded in combat, he returned home a hero, but stunned his wife by divorcing her to marry another woman. The warrior in this case was not Cindy McCain's husband, but her father, James W. Hensley.
I've heard of marrying a man like one's father, but this is ridiculous bordering on creepy.

For more entertainment, enjoy this article from 2000 about how James Hensley made the money that bankrolled John McCain's political career, and how he continues to benefit from said career today. Read the entire article, especially the closing note: that Anheuser-Bush is paying for the four scheduled presidential debates this fall. Yes, THAT Anheuser-Busch, 20 million cases of whose marquee brand, Budweiser, are sold by James Hensley's company every year.

Digg!

Cindy doesn't matter, never did. Where we're going we'll need civil engineers not an actress. This is no longer a daytime TV drama.

Please find something else to write about.

Cindy-Lou and Daddy

Yes, there certainly is something Oedipal in the McCain marriage, and this article explains a piece of it!

What I find shocking is that Mr. Hensley has two other daughters from his first marriage (one, I believe, a stepdaughter). He chose to leave them almost nothing in his will, though they are lower-middle class and struggling. He left everything to Cindy Lou--who does not even acknowledge she has half-sisters! Oh wait......that's not really just oedipal, that's incredibly narcissistic! Obviously a family that doesn't practice the Golden Rule!

does anyone else think that Cindy shows symptoms/behaviors of an abuse victim? and does anyone else think that the "over-enthusiastic fan" who shook her hand so hard he injured her is more likely her own husband? any man who would call his wife a cunt in public seems very likely to be one who might grab, jerk, twist his wife's arm in a moment of untempered anger. i wonder how daddy treated his little princess?

Yes, both Cindy and John should be in retirement and dressed as such.

Honestly...how long has John McCain has that awful combover hair? I just don't know how to comment on this mans lack of style or communication. Commenting on his ocvious shortcomings as a presidential candidate is easier and more relevant.

Anyone can see that Cindy McCain is a product of elitist eugenics inbreeding. Wow, how boring can a woman be? I think she's in uncharted territory, especially compared to Michelle Obama, who is just stellar.

"That's impossible, I'll find you a hundred billion by tomorrow" - McCain economic policy.

The NY Times ran a lengthy article yesterday on Cindy's family. They're a very complicated bunch.Beteween several businesses and boatloads of money It was hard to follow. There is a pre-nup and she owns everything. At the time she probably married 'down' to simpify her life. Her own family was a real soap opera. I believe that she pursued him not the other way around. She found someone just like her daddy. Wierd!! Thanks, ANNA

It reminds me of all the right-wing "serious political consideration" that Michelle Obama could be an angry, embittered black woman and just maybe a revolutionary black panther. Voters beware!

It must be nice to grow up with all that money. It comes with obligations though, just like the crown of England. You have to keep your chin up and your upper lip stiff. You have to dress yourself in armor every day and never be caught without your war paint. Smile nicely when your gorilla husband offers your sexuality to 50,000 Harleys, or calls you a cunt in public. Pretend that you actually do like it rough. It takes discipline to reach the top, you know. Don't think about the past, just carry on. The future is bright.

I have often wondered if this were the case. John McCain is obviously abusive, angry, and belittling. Why would a woman, who can obviously be extremely picky if she chooses to marry, pursue a married man of this low caliber? I had guessed it had something to do with her father; I appreciate knowing I was on the mark.

Cindy McCain is an historical footnote

In the days of the Renaissance, when a lord or king wanted power they arranged political marriages, usually giving their daughter to an older man to form an alliance. The bride had no say and did whatever her father told her to do to achieve such a marriage. If she was lucky, she got someone she could actually love; but if she was not, she got someone who married her then shut her away except when it was politically expedient to have her come out or to produce sons. (Sound familiar Cindy?)

Cindy McCain is no better than a piece of meat hung out for an adulterous naval officer with political ambitions. Her father should be ashamed of himself for using a daughter in such a manner, and in this day and age, any woman who would vote for a man who married a young woman for political financing and to be arm candy, and who is verbally and emotionally abusive, is not as progressive or independent as she would claim. She should be encouraging Cindy McCain to send this creep to the curb, not the White House.

This is not the Middle Ages, and men like McCain and Hensley who use women as pawns for money and power should be relegated to the history books, not the White House.

Rich chicks are easy, and often marry their overbearing alcoholic abusive neglectful daddies..

Coming from a truly old money wealthy area and town I learned this early on plus maybe she just likes being called a "C$^T..!"

I know I'm a terrible person..!

Trying to keep my nose somewhat out of american politics (altho I can't tear my eyes away) but thank you for the link to that very enlightening article ('Haunted by Spirits'). Imho this goes right past Cindy McCain's appearance or her questionable taste in men, and straight to the heart of republican party policy.

For example, if McCain wins, don't hold your breath waiting for positive dialogue on the relative dangers of alcohol and marijuana. Or public health care: those 100 000 annual estimated alcohol-related deaths probably incur a lot of medical expenses along the way :.(

hurt ratings, either. Why should politics be the exception to the rule: there is no such thing as bad publicity? The only thing misogynists really want is a nympho with beer & cash, quelle shock.

But the Refucklicans will pull all kinds of stunts and stories, true or false, they don't care. We Dems need to fight just as unfairly until the Refucks are defeated, preferably for several decades. Arrest Rove, prosecute and hang Bush, and shoot Cheney like a varmint.

I know I'm old, but I could have sworn that we had cameras that took pictures in color in 1982.

Or is it that black and white photos are less flattering?

Ok I'll admit I'm lost on this one. Did Carmen Electra marry her father? No. So the "Electra" comic character played by Jennifer Garner in the movie of the same name and "Daredevil"? NO! So WTF? Who the Hell is "Electra" what's the reference? Not all of us are into incest references and the like, and I find it weird to assume we all are.
