The hottest newscaster in TV land just landed her own show, when former MSNBC general manager Dan Abrams stepped aside for other tasks, paving the way for Maddow to take over the 9 p.m. slot on September 8th. This move solidifies the rebranding of MSNBC, with Keith Olberman as the centerpiece, as a progressive alternative to the right-wing, White House driven drivel at Fox News.

The Masher screams Hallelujah!

New York Times Bill Carter's TV Decoder column provides the background.

The addition of Ms. Maddow as prime-time host had been expected for some time. Only a month ago, Mr. Griffin said she was at the top of the list to get a show at the network, and would likely get one soon.

Maddows Is Great, But Let's Not Get Ahead Of Ourselves.

I think Rachel Maddows is just straight bitchin'.

& yes, it's fantastic that she's getting her own show.

But MSNBC is now a "progressive alternative"?

No, MSNBC could at best be called a "non-smearer-of-Democratic-politicians-to-the-
exclusion-of-all-else alternative".

I know I wasn't the only one waiting for Keith O. to make a real statement on his network's exclusion of Kucinich, in Nevada.

But I don't recall him saying jack shit.

Hmm. Come to think of it, as fun as Rachel Maddows can be to watch, she pulls a lot of punches too.

I'm hoping for the best, but I'm guessing that the folks at MSNBC are mostly just a little more savvy than some of their competitors, & nothing more.

That's Edutainment!

Smart people work, smarter people allow their money to work for them. This is why MSNBC has jumped on the progressive bandwagon. The same reason why T Boone Pickens is selling wind energy. He spent 50 M + to run his ads so he can turn a profit of billions.

While I like Olberman and Maddow's shows, I also remember that these are now corporate-run institutions, and the networks will reign workers in when their brand of "news" no longer sells. On the plus side, it's time for to the broadcast industry to sweep out O'Reilly and Rush, so Faux will forget news and exclusively sell smut. May be guns will somehow be branded then as something foolish and evil, one can hope !?!

Just had the opportunity & privilege to see/meet Rachel up close and personal at a panel forum here in Seattle last weekend...even better in person! Rachel has such a unique blend of wit, intelligence, compassion and humor, yet remains unassuming & grounded. Maybe a new trend in broadcast journalism? I'd like to see Rachel moderate one of the presidential debates instead of the corporate media old white guys.

I am so happy that this highly intelligent and insightful political journalist and commentator will be replacing the dull, excrutiatingly boring Dan Abrams. Now I will not have to change channels after Keith Olberman's show.

Now...if MSNBC would only find someone else with intelligence and charisma to replace the juicy-mouthed, two-faced, despicable Chris Matthews. I simply will not watch him.

I will watch the Presidential conventions on C-Span because I do not want to have to listen to Matthews and Russert Jr., neither of whom deserve their positions.
