McCain Gets Smacked by Myers for Using 'Wayne's World' in Attack Ad

McCain seems to be copying quite a bit these days.

The world's dumbest political ad -- the one put out this week by the McCain campaign talking about Obama's celebrity again -- ended with an aging piece of film humor: a clip from Wayne's World featuring Wayne and Garth bowing and chanting, "We're not worthy!"

Normally, filmic types ignore such thefts because, well, it's just not worth the hassle. But according to the McCain website, Mike Myers isn't:

Unfortunately, the final clip of Mike Myers and Dana Carvey doing their 'we're not worthy' bit from Wayne's World has spurred a celebrity backlash. Myers had his people call the campaign to demand that the video be removed from YouTube for copyright violation. Apparently, we are not, in fact, worthy.

Nope. You're not. Sorry. Any campaign that would try to establish its hipness cred by playing a clip from 1992 is just ... lame.

Is it possible to dumb down our political discourse any further than the McCain campaign is doing?

McCain wins.

Without question, he is simply the funnier candidate. Both in person, and with his ads.

If you are basing your vote on which candidate is funnier, you should vote for McCain.

Of course, if you are basing your vote on which candidate is funnier, turn to someone with a clue, and ask them to smack you in the face. You deserve it.

I phoned Leibermann's office this morning. Left a voice mail for him, told him I am "an older disabled independent voter in Washington State", not entirely untrue as I go after dems or repugs alike if it is necessary. I don't care just want them to do their jobs properly. ANYWAY, my voice got sort of shaky as I explained that I voted for him and Gore in 2000 and I really like him and admire him so much, and McCain too, like him but haven't made up my mind yet (God forgive me) and I am upset with this insinuation or suggestion that Obama is anti-american or even a traitor or doesn't love our country. I said I don't understand that and I don't think it is true and I just really wish they would stick to the issues so I can make up my mind because it is very upsetting! ;-) teehee...

You can leave a message for Liebermann by phoning:

Ummm...you kind of ruined your ploy by posting about it all over Alternet

Hey, foreverhope--I really respect you and completely share your pro-Obama stance.

However, I think you completely blew your cover here by posting your tactics to the Lieberman office all over Alternet--this will encourage them to disregard not only your ploy, but all others who follow it.

Not only that, but I have to say that Joe DOES NOT CARE ONE BIT for voters' opinions outside his constituency--in fact, I AM his constituent, and trust me, he doesn't really give a damn what any of US think these days.

Joe cares about one thing; Joe. Period. (Note how he ran for both VP and Senator in 2000; and helped sink Gore's chances re: the recount.)

Nice try, though.

Are you saying that the only thing "ME ME ME Lieberman" cares about is himself? Is that what you're saying?

Please clarify.
