"Banned" Bush Video Emerges: Blames Recession on His Drunken Wall Street Cronies

An ABC-TV outlet in Houston, and now the Houston Chronicle, have posted a video taken at a political fundraiser for Pete Olson, featuring George W. Bush last week -- capturing some embarrassing/revealing moments after, he noted, he had asked cameras to be turned off.

The first moments form the July 18 event find him speaking almost incoherently in admitting, for once, that his friends in big business had screwed up: "There's no question about it. Wall Street got drunk -- that's one of the reasons I asked you to turn off the TV cameras -- it got drunk and now it's got a hangover. The question is how long will it sober up and not try to do all these fancy financial instruments."

Then, making light of the foreclosure crisis, he said: "And then we got a housing issue ... not in Houston, and evidently not in Dallas, because Laura's over there trying to buy a house. [great laughter] I like Crawford but unfortunately after eight years of sacrifice, I am apparently no longer the decision maker."

(Catch the video on the flip side.)

No one is saying how ABC's Miya Shay got the video or how it emerged.

So-the financial industry got drunk and caused a lot of trouble..Lets parse this a little further.
1)We often hold drunk people responsible for their actions when they deliberately put themselves in a position that causes harm due to their actions (e.g. behind the wheel)
2) We regulate the flow of alcohol in various ways to reduce the possibility of (1) occurring.

I think we should continue to use Bush's analogy. It demonstrates the stunning hypocrisy and evil of our government's failure to oversee the financial industry, or to hold the executives, loan officers, bundlers etc. responsible for harm they knowingly caused because they were "drunk" on high stock prices and their ability to accumulate wealth.

When he said "hangover" he was committing a classic "bushism".

What he MEANT to say, was "overhang"...which in wall street parlance, means that you're stuck holding the bag on a bad position.

What is thus ACTUALLY said, was that there had to be a way to "cure" this "overhang"...and the way you do that, is to find a fresh batch of suckers to unload your overhang to.

When crap like this is posted, it makes the ACTUAL criticisms of Bush look less legitimate.

I mean seriously, if the harshest criticism you can find of Bush is his choice of topics for humor when he thought he was in private, then you obviously are pretty damned uninformed.

What I find shocking is that Alternet wastes the space on this. And even more shocking is that I'm wasting my own words on it.

I want Bush out as much as anybody and give him zero cred, but you make yourself less legit when you post a headline reading:"...BLAMES RECESSION ON HIS DRUNKEN WALL STREET CRONIES".

What he said was that "Wall Street got drunk...". It's not the same.

Not deligitimize what you do by oversensationalizing.

. . . oh, wait, he's not playing . . .

Quoteth the Bozo-In-Chief:
"The question is how long will it sober up and not try to do all these fancy financial instruments."

Uh, George . . . You have a, uh, governmental agency that you could, uh, influence to stop those financial shananigans. It's called the Securities and Exchange Commission. Remember them? The agency you gutted?

Oh well; at least he got one thing right. No one can recognize drunkedness like another drunk.
