House Judiciary Committee: Rove Must Testify

Former Bush adviser must tell Congress what he knows about U.S. Attorney purge, Don Siegelman prosecution.

Yesterday, the House Judiciary Committee received a letter from Karl Rove’s attorney Robert Luskin, stating that his client refuses to testify before a House subcommittee, despite a congressional subpoena. He reiterated his offer to have Rove appear for an off-the-record interview, not under oath, about the prosecution of formerly Alabama governor Don Siegelman only. In a response to Luskin, Reps. John Conyers (D-MI) and Linda Sanchez (D-CA) reject the offer:

We want to make clear that the Subcommittee will convene as scheduled and expects Mr. Rove to appear, and that a refusal to appear in violation of the subpoena could subject Mr. Rove to contempt proceedings, including statutory contempt under federal law and proceedings under the inherent contempt authority of the House of Representatives.

Your letter states that Mr. Rove will not attend the hearing because he is “obligated” to disregard the subpoena as a result of the White House’s claim of immunity for former advisors. In fact, precisely the opposite is true. As a private party, Mr. Rove is “obligated” to comply with the subpoena issued to him and, at the very least, appear at the July 10 hearing.

In addition to the Siegelman matter, the committee has also asked Rove to testify on the politicization of the Justice Department, including the U.S. attorney scandal.

I wonder if they'll ever get him (or any of those jackasses) in there, already?

Here's my suggestion to any of us regular people who end up receiving (multiple) summons to appear before a court or other civic body;

Just don't go. Don't go at all, & further, make a big smirking point of letting everybody know that you don't have to go... Because you said so.

Nyah, nyah, nyah. Make me.

See how easy that is?

Honestly, I don't see why he's dragging his feet. It's not like any of his fellow political criminals have suffered any real repercussions for grudgingly showing up.

Apparently, that's how things work, these days.

He could be found in contempt of Congress. The bad news--Congress doesn't have a law enforcement arm--that's in the Executive Branch--so they can't throw him in jail.

There's a mechanism for a person to be tried before Congress, but don't hold your breath--it ain't going to happen.

Fat Ass is telling them to go fuck themselves, knowing they can't do a thing about it.

I read somewhere that Congress CAN delegate the Capitol police to arrest and bring the man before Congress AND IMPRISON him IN the Capitol...but there's some kind of rule that they can only hold him while Congress is in session. Something like that. So they would have to pick a long session and not break to be effective. This contempt of Congress is absolutely inexcusable, and failure of AG to enforce the subpoena should cause his impeachment. So why not just impeach one AG after another until one of them actually upholds the law?

Fat ass can recieve that as a sentence, SO? In so Far as Mukasey, the dual-citizenship holding[as many Jews in Congress and up are] violating Article.1.Section.9.
Yes oh please Dennis, Article.2.Section.4.
Dennis Kucinich and his 35 Articles of a Resolution of Impeachment for High Crimes and Misdemeanors. When we meet with Conyers and again with Dennis we will recieve updates. Dennis told us if no movement within the Judiciary he will bring it to the Floor again with 25 more Articles and assured us, "This is not done, this will never be done." He will re-introduce between 7/9 and 7/11.
Since you can Impeach even after death, but what the hell good will that do for this Nation, the Murderer in Chief will get his due along with the EVIL DOER and all his minions.

Maybe Conyers will have to show some muscle this time. He's lost so much credibility by refusing to act on the articles of impeachment sitting in his committee. I'm not taking any bets however.

Even w/ the buffoonery, malfeasance, high-fives for bushites all around I believe Rove will have to take an oath before "god", evangelists, & the rest of the population. A good lawyer will remind him of this oath, the bible, his own oath to defend the constitution & his duty or absolute failure to do so. Remind him often of of the criminal implications... The oaths, the mutiple oaths he has sworn in his career, and what exactly they are supposed to mean. Question this amoral little twit in the cotext of respecting, honoring all the symbols of patriotism & good citizenship. Anyway, all the high fives w/ his cronies should look like they stepped on the flag (which was done) ... and then we can carry on w/ impeachemnt in night court. Just imagining on Independence Day.

I think it's time to start a government of the People. Run only by the people from the ground up, rather than what corporations permit.

rove testify? Under oath? Not bloody likely. He's a bushie, remember? They can get away with ANYTHING, including treason, murder, and crimes against humanity, and NOBODY will do a goddam thing about it.

think that the full House, and not just a committee, would have to vote on the in-house incarceration. Fat chance of the Republican members doing that.

I don't think that it will make any difference if the House brings in Karl Rove because the smart people have all left and there's only Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber running this country - and it doesn't matter which party you're talking about. We just saw an example of letting the man who wrote the torture memo, that set this country on the path of violating the Geneva Conventions, completely off the hook. You think Karl Rove is dumber than John Yu?

What you NEED to do is get rid of PELOSI and CONYERS.
They should be tried for treason against the People they are SUPPOSED to be representing.
Pelosi has been sheilding king george and his merry band of bastards for 8 years now. With Conyers help! What possible purpose could be served by frogface-Rove's testimony anyway? ... does anyone actually think that Liar would tell the truth 'under oath' ???
Our Phoney 'Democrats' in Congress are an obscene joke on the American people - an outrage against Democracy!!!

I hope he does not show up and they arrest the squeeling fat pig in his "Barney Suit". I also hope that he is put in with the general population; and hooks up with someone named big "Buba" who makes a woman out of the fat pig.
Horay!
