Why Won't the Press Call Bush a Liar?

Evidence that the President lied to the nation is irrefutable and growing.

Why is the press still reluctant to tell the truth about George W. Bush's run up to war -- that is a bald-faced liar who deliberately lied to the very Americans he's supposed to serve because he wanted to get into a war that he thought would give him a Great Legacy™ and fatten the pockets of himself and his cronies in the bargain?

Now that the report of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence has come out, this is no longer the exclusive province of bloggers and "kooks." It is absolute truth, that this president betrayed the trust of the American people in a way no other president has done in my lifetime -- not even Nixon. And yet, as he plays out the string of his ghastly, destructive, miserable presidency, the press still won't call him a liar.

Today's headlines:

"Inflated." "Misused." "Overstated." "Exaggerated." Even the report refuses to use "The L Word":

“Representing to the American people that the two had an operational partnership and posed a single, indistinguishable threat was fundamentally misleading and led the nation to war on false premises,”

Richard Clarke weighed in on Countdown last night:

Let's not surgarcoat it: This president is a liar. A shameless bold-face liar. And that is to our eternal shame.

didn't have a problem saying that President Clinton LIED. Wonder why they are so allergic to the word when it comes to the current occupant of the White House?

They will have no choice but to call him a LIAR when he and Cheney are forced to testify about their LYING us into this war.

Liar, Liar... Brooks Brothers suit on fire!

Why should a lying presidents be any different. Listening to the Jay Rockefeller report removes any doubt the we were all lied to. Alot is going on. Fitzgerald may testify before Congress. Impeachment seems disloyal while our own soldiers are dying for a cause that never existed. It's a moral dilemma. Bush may no feel that he owes these people but the rest of us have higher standards. I hope it all crumbles around him. It's Painful to think about. ANNA

Presenting some evidence without presenting contradictory evidence to the public is lying to the public.

Bush is a liar as are most of his cabinet.

The media sucks up to its leaders and refuses to call a spade a spade when the person is rich and/or powerful.

This is not new.

Anyone that bothers to educate themselves can easily see Bush and company are liars.

But almost no one bothers to educate themselves.

Want to know why democracy does not work and allows the BS of this administration to go on?

If they would impeach him, he would be handled more seriously by the press. Unless he is impeached, not only will he continue to get favorable treatment by the media in the near future, but his legacy will be whitewashed in history books to come.

It is not a damn war! On MSNBC they did say 'led by deception to invade', still not good enough.
Entering the end of the first 1/3 of the 6th year of an ILLEGAL OCCUPATION. The Executive F$$KING BRANCH LIED and led by deception OUR NATION to ILLEGALLY INVADE a Sovereign Nation and ILLEGALLY OCCUPY Iraq for over 6 Years, murdering well over 4100 Troops[DoD]so multiply that figure by whatever # you choose, murdering 1.3 MN Iraqis, displacing > 4.2 MN Iraqis, less than half externally, the rest internally. Please re;Troops, do not use that F$$KING BUSHITE WORD SURGE! It is called, quite simply as it always has been, an ESCALATION OF TROOPS, thanks.
Impeachment? Tried, convicted, sentenced and OFF TO THE HAGUE! I would love to see them hung by their murdering, genocidal, torturous throats slowly and perhaps then a serious discussion of what constitutes GD TORTURE!!!!

Let’s give the President the benefit of the doubt for a moment and assume that he has never knowingly lied to us. We know for certain that we have been lied to by our government often over the past six years, more often it seems than during any recent administration. And we know that George W. Bush himself has transmitted more that a few of those lies. And we know that the President now admits that many of the things he has told us were untrue when he said them. He says it was a consequence of bad intelligence. He was simply misinformed. When he told us there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, he truly believed it was so … etc.

If we are to believe him when he says he hasn’t lied to us (which may prove to be the whopper than disproves all others) then we are left with a paraphrased version of that shopworn question about presidential knowledge: What doesn’t the President know, and when will he know it? And that of course leads to an even more perplexing question: How will he respond when he discovers what he didn’t know?

Will George Bush wake up one morning to realize that scores of people he has personally selected to serve his administration, including some of his oldest and closest friends, may have been deliberately transmitting bald-faced lies through his lips? He may already know this, which would explain the deepening stress lines, the frayed temper, and the blank stares that accompany his recent public appearances. Like Iago and Brutus working together, have his loyal associates destroyed him? And is he acutely aware of it? He’d be unlikely to say so now; perhaps later in a memoir.

How devastating it would be for any leader to realize that he has been used over and over again by friends and advisors who turn out to be self-interested prevaricators. How lonely to be trapped in a bunker surrounded by snakes and infidels. If this turns out to be the case for George W. Bush we should have compassion, not hatred for him. No matter how much we dislike his policies, actions and decisions, if they were made in good faith, but based on the lies and betrayals of loyalists, he doesn’t really own them. He must therefore be forgiven.

But if it turns out that he knew all along he was lying, then he must go down in history, not as the worst U.S. president ever, or the biggest liar since Richard Nixon, or the most perverse autocrat since Caligula, but as a monster who put us all at risk by tricking us into a needless flirtation with Armageddon.

No Way should Any of the Bush terrorist be left off the hook with an apology! They are directly responsible for the deaths of over a million innocent Middle Eastern People. The US has lost a 4000 with injury to very many more, not to mention the trillions of dollars of unpaid dept. All involved in the willful and terrorizing lies of the Bush/Cheney Regime must be made to answer for their crimes to the fullest extent of the law. The people in the Our Congress that say that Impeachment would be too much distraction for other concerns should also be recalled. The crimes of this administration can only be forgiven after they are made pay their just due.

Answer that question, and the answer to why they won't call W a liar is obvious.

If Congress would impeach Bush/Cheney then at least something would be working. But, I think the operative question is the same . . . who owns Congress? Certainly it is not the voters whom they purportedly represent.

The underlying reason for the media,s refusal to to call Bush a liar is the modern phenomena of "Murdochisation" of the so called free press.Rupert Murdoch controls a global media empire of insidious proportions,even in communist China his outlets obey the party edicts on censorship.Born in Australia,but now a US citizen,the "Dirty Digger" has transformed Journalism From the Watergate style to a dumbed down vacuous,banal pap, Tabloid style of media that courts the advertising dollar to maxamise his corporate profits.Journalistic ethics are no longer part of the equation because they are no longer allowed to pursue a story,but are given guidelines by their chief executives on the company policy.
If a Journalist did write the truth,unemployment would follow and a form of blacklisting would see future job offers nonexistant,and be branded a loose canon,because corporate managers in the Murdoch milieu believe the truth is subversive.
If a miracle occured and Bush and his partners in crime were impeached and convicted,the next president would issue a pardon,or suffer the "JFK" solution.

Oh yeah, and don't forget:

FASCISM

America Has a Problem…a BIG PROBLEM

“The liberty of democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic STATE itself. That, in its essence, is FASCISM – ownership of government by an individual, by a group or by any controlling private power.”
-- President Franklin Roosevelt

Read the complete explanations at: http://www.globalresearch.ca

THE IDENTIFYING
CHARACTERISTICS OF FASCISM

By Dr. Lawrence Britt
Free Inquiry Magazine / Spring 2003

Dr. Lawrence Britt, a political scientist, studied the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia), and Pinochet (Chile). He found the regimes all had 14 things in common, and he calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism. The article is titled 'Fascism Anyone?', and appears in Free Inquiry's Spring 2003 issue on page 20.

The 14 characteristics are (go to #14 first):

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism -- Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols....

2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights -- ...the people...are persuaded that human rights can be ignored... The people tend to...even approve of torture...

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause -- The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy...

4. Supremacy of the Military -- ... the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

5. Rampant Sexism -- The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. ...

6. Controlled Mass Media -- ...the media is directly controlled by the government ...

7. Obsession with National Security -- Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined -- Governments...tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion.

9. Corporate Power is Protected -- The industrial and business aristocracy...are the ones who put the government leaders into power...

10. Labor Power is Suppressed -- Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government...

11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts -- Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia...

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment -- ...the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses, and even forego civil liberties...

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption -- Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions ...national resources...stolen by government leaders.

14. Fraudulent Elections -- ...elections...are a complete sham.... the manipulation of the media ... manipulate or control elections

-------------

“There are two passions which have a powerful influence on the affairs of men. These are ambition and avarice; the love of power, and the love of money. ...Place before the eyes of such men a post of honor, that shall be at the same time a place of profit, and they will move heaven and earth to obtain it.” -- Ben Franklin

I hate to be cynical, but I believe the election will not even matter. A dog and pony show if you will.
This administration has blood all over its hands. These guys must know that they will be investigated and indicted under Democratic leadership. These guys will do whatever it takes to avoid that scenario. The fix is on. McCain will comply by sweeping all investigations under the carpet. By the time the real story comes out, these guys will be long gone. They have hijacked this country for the long term, not just Bush's term. They have withheld documents, ordered people to not give testimony, conveniently "lost" millions of e-mails they were supposed to archive that could shed light on their deeds, outed Valerie Plame in retaliation for Joe Wilson's article- which exposed their exaggerated pre-war claims that have been confirmed, approved and condone torture, politicized the Judicial branch to cover their ass later, and on and on. They are not going to just walk away with their fingers crossed. We need to get these guys out now- before Bush declares martial law and extends this national nightmare.

One of the most interesting--and disturbing--aspects of this whole sorry scenario is the unqualified, wholehearted and aggressive support for Bush's agenda of aggressive war, war profiteering, corruption, torture and violation of international and US law by the conservative Christian community. These people, without irony, declare themselves servants of the Prince of Peace and God of Love while gleefully inflicting death, maiming, bereavement, forced emigration, ethnic cleansing, poverty and other horrors on millions of people who, according to the Christian and their own scriptures, were also created in the image of God.

Why is it that they see the face of God on a plastic crucifix, a stained glass window or a cheesy painting in the family Bible, but not on the face of an Iraqi, Afghan or Palestinian child? How are they morally different from the jihadists who are also willing to sacrifice the innocent on the altar of their theopolitical ambitions?

If the msm and Congress flat out called Bush a liar Congress would have to act to impeach and that is something they are loathe to do- and if they call him a liar and do not act to impeach that is a dereliction of their duty to uphold the Constitution - and they do not want to impeach because most of them are complicit in this administration's crimes - wiretapping, torture, etc.

While I sympathise with all the foregoing comments, I am depressed about the total self-centredness and the absence of sympathy for the Iraqis who are the victims of this disgusting business.
What has been done to Iraq was an atrocity in the same sense that the holocaust was an atrocity.
But with this difference - the holocaust failed.
Iraq on the other hand has been successfully reduced from a prosperous if potentially unstable nation to one reduced to a state of poverty and chronic instability.
That George Bush lied is true but irrelevant.
Iraq, a sovereign nation had as much right to acquire Weapons of Mass Destruction as say, the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel, France, Russia, India, Pakistan, China and possibly, North Korea.
As to the reason why - Possibly for the oil or because Saddam was a Socialist Tyrant or more likely, because we can.

...MISLED! President Bush "misled" us into war with Iraq.

I looked it up and misled means "lied about" --like Nixon "misled" the facts on the Pentagon Papers, like Bill Clinton TRIED (but failed) to MISLEAD the public about his extracurricular activities with what's-her-name--wow. We found out about Clinton's peccadilloes because the REPUBLICANS REFUSED TO BE MISLED ABOUT CLINTON'S AFFAIR WITH MONICA.

However, those same Republicans are just FINE, with being "misled" into a war with an innocent country which we invaded because Dick Cheney assured us that we could tap into their almost-pristine Kirkuk oilfield. ("The war will pay for itself").

Crooks don't "mislead". They outright lie, and to let a sitting President get away with this awful barefaced lie about Saddam being implicated in 9/11, (when actually it was Bush's Saudi friends who committed that atrocity). He put this country into mortal danger and has killed over 4,000 of our brave young people in his charnel house. Impeachment deeds, for sure--but I've given up on impeaching him. Now,I want to know WHO'S PROTECTING BUSH IN CONGRESS AND THE SENATE. Then, impeach THEM, because it's their DUTY to impeach Bush and they're saying to the now-outraged public--screw you, he gets off clean on this one. Allowing the next President to be a crook, too, should he desire to be one--why not? Bush got away with his lies and deceit, he got away clean, so who's to stop another pig from doing the same thing Bush did?

So we got to 1) find out who these Congressmen and Senators are, who are protecting Bush. Then--we have to find out where they're going after this year--what Big Corporation is going to employ these Bush-protectors as 'consultants' or whatever, at fat salaries. We THEN have to tell those corporations that we plan to institute BLACKOUTS on all their products and services, unless they remove pressure from our lawmakers and let them do their job and impeach these Liars in the White House--both Bush AND Cheney--forthwith.

Anyone seriously interested in the unfathomable criminals in this administation be held responsible for their lies and manipulations and MURDERS, needs to do a few things now:

1) Read Vincent Bugliosi’s The Prosecution of George W Bush for Murder - wherein he so clearly spells out the case and sites all the necessary evidence in detail, to bring this gang to justice, whatever their high falutin title.

2) Sign every petition in support of prosecution you can find. http://www.petitiontoprosecutegwb.blogspot.com
http://www.Democrats.com

3) Stand up and let your voice ring out loud at every opportunity - write letters, make phone calls, go to rally’s etc to show your support, nay, your insistance that they NOT be allowed to get away with their criminal behavior.

Fight for Justice — Do Not Rest until we restore this once great country.

Thank you,
Linda Alvarez

Sure Bush is a liar who commits horrendous war crimes and tramples the constitution, but what is supposed to happen to such malfeasance? He's supposed to be IMPEACHED! Unfortunately, Nancy Pelosi, et al., have either been bought off or blackmailed into not just ignoring, but affirmatively disavowing their most important constitutional duty and appeasing these criminals.

Similarly, the press not only refuse to call Bush a liar, they fail to call for the remedy the constitution demands, namely, impeachment. This in spite of the most dire editorials warning of the demise of our democracy from the likes of the New York Times.

All we can conclude is that Bush, Pelosi, Reid, and the NYT want us to continue living in a make believe entertainment world as principles and justice go down the drain.

Why it was obvious from Day One they were lying

Everyone with half a brain knew. Provided they gave a damn and weren’t taking refuge in whining about “Why do they hate us?”.

How did the perps expose their treason even before the Blitzkrieg started? How could those of us not “in the know” tell that Bush and Cheney and Britain’s Tony Bliar and Australia’s Johnny Coward and his slimy “Labor” rival Kevin (the Reverend) Rudd KNEW there were no WMDs in Iraq.

The key word is BLIX. Hans Blix.

Until the last couple of weeks before they attacked Iraq there was a very slim possibility the US Administration and their foreign grovellers could have believed there was a risk Saddam had these weapons. But the Saddam dropped the bombshell that exposed their dirty secret. Fearing imminent war he dropped all opposition to full powers for Blix’s UN inspectors. They could go anywhere at any time without notice. No hidey-holes. The suspect sites (e.g. palaces) were thrown open. Blix pleaded for resources (equal to, say, the cost of ten minutes of fighting a war)to take advantage of Saddam's cave-in.

Had Bush & Co really feared the possibility of WMDs in Iraq, here was the chance to flush them out. But they brushed all this aside and launched the war they had been planning for months – a war whose main objectives were strategic and had nothing to do with Iraqi weapons.

Therefore they didn’t fear WMDs. Therefore they were lying, not “interpreting". To fail to get this message about them by February-March 2003 at the latest required either a medically dangerous lack of brain power or (more often) pig-ignorant, chauvinistic ill-will.

Those that didn’t give a damn are beautifully and indelibly depicted at http://www.danzigercartoons.com/ archive/cmp/2003/danziger1776.html [space inserted to fit format - delete space for URL]. In the USA alone there are unfortunately millions and millions like that – just look at the polls. The hope for that otherwise doomed though potentially great country is in the millions who are not like that, and especially those with the guts to prefer to be voices in the wilderness rather than be part of the wilderness. Whenever anyone denies that the perps are lying traitors, just say “BLIX” and explain.

Quit parsing words,mis-spoke,misled,misconstrued,all mean he didn't really lie. He just made a mistake. This is what many people get from such words Tell it like it is and the public will agree when confronted with the evidence. Bush lied to take this country to war. The only alternative we have as a nation,impeach and convict.

Criminal Conspiracy and Complicity to Commit Treason Charges!

Is a sad state of MSM affairs when the public must get their news from fake news programs!

I would like to see criminal conspiracy and complicity to commit treason charges
leveled at all the top executives of all Corporate controlled MSM news outlets,
and be taken immediately!

Why?... because they took pages directly from Joseph Goebbels play book;
1.)by assisting in the subversion of truth, in order to lead us into war.
2.)support in diverting TRILLIONS of taxpayers dollars and by profiting in this action.
3.)by supporting GRAFT, GREED & CORRUPTION
3.)material and emotional support of illegal detention and torture, plus condoning these activities including against their own [eg. competitors reporters photographers etc.]
4.)and by providing material and logistical Intelligence and Support contrary to existing conventions knowing that this will effect future war correspondents ability to perform their duties.

and all this was done for one reason... for the bottom line! ...PROFIT!...

But what really pisses me off is,
how the corporate executives running this dog and pony show made it look so ...[sl]easy...
SOMETHING/ANYTHING... MUST BE DONE!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'Joseph Goebbels' Quotes;
"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The
lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."
"It is the absolute right of the State to supervise the formation of public opinion."
"During a war, news should be given out for instruction rather than information."
"The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We must ensure a quality control mechanism to
eliminate Propaganda emanating from government agencies.

This can easily be done by revoking broadcasting rights to broadcast News information. News should never be infotainment trivalised for the bottom line, news reporting is a serious business and should be classified as such by being a privilege to broadcast... that being by issuing licenses that is separate from their regular broadcast licenses!

Simply put... a broadcast license fee structure should be reviewed yearly and with bottom line penalties for corporate structures that do not have regulated news coverage, rewarding those that do have licensed news reporting by being exempt from the yearly somberquete.

News licensing guidelines must be enforced to ensure non-governmental interference in the future, their-fore the licensing body MUST BE non-political.
[Don't need a repeat of Colin Powell's son issuing broadcast licenses now do we, never forget that]
To much damage has been brought through the corporate streamlining of news and information sources to our societies detriment, action is needed now.
Crimes have been perpetrated by and through this medium, and the sheeple "DO" care!

to all the Patrick Fitzgerald's out there... where are you?
now... right NOW... is your time!
