Well, I'm a 52 year old white woman and an enthusiastic Obama supporter; what does that say about me? That I wouldn't support a woman for president? Hardly. I just won't support Clinton for president. The "sweetie" remark made me cringe, I'll admit, but so have other remarks made by ALL the candidates in this race. All of my white female co-workers and relatives are supporting Obama as well.

Obama's poll numbers against McCain are very poor lately with many groups polled. If White older women can't stop feeling sorry for themselves about Clinton, then it is a CERTAINTY that we will have a Supreme Court farther right than we have even now (for the rest of our lives) and will have endless wars (possibly preemptive nuclear wars) and all that great stuff under President McCain's leadership.

I will be accused of sexism, whatever, I'm a woman so I can say it, and I am old so I can say it. No one, I repeat NO ONE, wants to listen to angry old ladies, OR angry old men (McCain) for that matter.

The right conspired against her in the 90's, now the left is conspiring against her. Her own party is conspiring against her to keep her from getting the nomination. Right. Do you not see how ridiculous this is?

And don't her supporters ever get sick of Hillary playing the victim? I don't see how eternal victimhood is good for femnists.

It is so simple. Hillary was arrogantly certain of her nomination, as if she would simply be annointed, and failed to run a campaign that would last after February cause she thought she would have it all wrapped up. Since than her campaign has been on life-support and the use of her campaign dollars, many many millions, borders on fraud. That is why she's lost.

Which is really not all that surprising, because it's all about privilege. Many of them fail to see the close links between both sexism and racism, and merely focus on sexism, both of which are maintained by a white male patriarchy that places white males (Christian, of course, and only the RIGHT sort) at the top. They, of course, pay no heed to us women of color who will suffer the most under a McCain administration, as we have suffered under two terms of Bush. Privileged white feminists have never paid much attention to the voices and the needs of women of color, until they need our votes. Worse, they have created a divisive dichotomy that DEMANDS that us women of color cede racism in favor of sexism--a false choice because both isms greatly and negatively impact our lives.

If Obama is the nominee, it would downright foolish and frankly criminal to allow a McCain victory. Don't count on many democrats to keep McCain's scary picks for the Supreme Court off the bench--after all, most of them were too cowardly to stand up to Bush on the war--INCLUDING HILARY. Kiss not only Roe v. Wade goodbye, but civil liberties, the separation of church and state, and worse, more pre-emptive wars just because McCain didn't get any nooky the previous night. A McCain presidency should scare anyone who cares about freedom and REAL democracy.

I agree wholeheartedly that a lot of the attacks against Hilary Clinton have been disgustingly sexist, but unfortunately, the hatred of some men against her has been going on from the time she was first lady. None of us should have been all that surprised when all guns came out full bore, and frankly, Hilary should have risen to the occasion by confronting it head-on then moving on. She had the best chance to make a lot of wimpy men feel foolish simply by demonstrating the Hilary Nutcracker. Outside of her policy stances, her endless whining about sexism made me realize that she isn't a very strong woman after all.

Now, Maxine Waters...she could easily show Hilary how it should be done.

The problems with Hilary or her supporters for me are many and have NOTHING to do with their gender and everything to do with the culture of blindness. Just because she's a woman doesn't mean she shouldn't be subjected to the tough questions. Her stances on Iraq, Iran and NAFTA have been antithetical to my own. She has pandered to the worst common denominator in our country through racial coding. She has indeed, in the word of the good father who preached at Obama's church, behaved as if she were truly ENTITLED to the nomination. She should have maintained the notion that one must WORK for the public trust.

Having said all that, if Hilary Clinton is the democratic nominee, I WILL support her. The bigger picture is to keep another Bush clone out of the White House.

Oh, I see that many of these posts (including mine) have been rated a 1, even though they are excellent posts. Someone who actually LIKES Hillary (for some reason, but WHY, I can't figure it out) is amongst us.
I have rated the other 1's posts as 5's because they deserve it.

There are PLENTY of women who would be much better presidents or vice-presidents than Hillary. Why any woman would want Hillary, of all people, to be the standard-bearer for women breaking the glass-ceiling is beyond me. With her using her husband's coattails to enter politics and her not divorcing Bill "Man-Slut" Clinton despite his ways, she is about as harmful to women's progress as anyone can be.

has Obama leading Clinton by a wide margin in California - just about the reverse of the primary results in February. So we shouldn't put too much stock in the ever-changing polls. Clinton's supporters are probably feeling disappointed, maybe a little disillusioned right now. That's to be expected. But what are they going to do in November, vote for McCain? I expect that once the nomination is decided in favor of Obama (barring a miracle), there will be plenty of fence-mending and reconciliation between the Obama and Clinton wings of the party.

It's not women my age who are supporting Clinton, it's my MOTHER's generation and it's all because those women hitched themselves to a man for their entire existence and that's why they relate to Hillary's having done the same. They admire her "sticking by her man," whereas that same behavior makes younger women ill.

I've had a husband cheat on me with women young enough to be his daughter and I can tell you there's no amount of money or power in the world that would have made me stay with him. But Hillary's generation? They're all in it for the money and power they get from being attached to white men. It's disgusting and a terrible example to young women.

But that's not my main reason for not supporting Hillary. I have children 22 and 20 years old (born in 1986 and 1988). Their ENTIRES LIVES the president has been named Bush or Clinton, isn't that just RIDICULOUS? Enough of these fucking dynasties, didn't we fight a revolution to get rid of this crap?

Can't this party please stop bickering with itself and pull it together? To the Hillary supporters: sorry that she lost, but the democratic party does not hate her or you. There was not some big conspiracy against her(remember how long we were hung up on how they treated Gore? Six years before this party got its act together to post some big wins). She is behind based on party rules, and as a veteran dem, she cannot claim a lack of understanding. So please don't take it personal and abandon the party in November. We need you. The survey finds that as many 39% of Clinton's female supporters believe that her gender has hurt her candidacy. In turn, favorable opinions of Obama have tumbled among women who support Clinton - from 58% in March to 43% currently.

Thirty-nine percent of Clinton's female supporters believe that gender has hurt her candidacy. What does this have to do with Barack Obama? And the favorable opinion of Obama among women who support Clinton has fallen from 58 to 43?

What percentage of voting women are die-hard supporters of Clinton, I wonder? I also wonder what a poll of women which was not limited to declared supporters of Hillary Clinton, in her age bracket, and who, if Clinton herself is to be believed, are white, disadvantaged, and under-educated, would say about Obama's approval rating among women?

By contrast, there has been a slight increase in positive views of Obama over this period among men who support Clinton (from 42% in March to 47% currently).

I hate to be redundant or turn down good news, but how many men does THIS account for?

We need to wake up to this kind of manipulation. Look who they're polling to get this small, meaningless factoid. What does the meaningless factoid mean in terms of Obama's being elected in November?

When woman's lib began (I was around then as I am an older woman) - my boyfriend claimed that it was comprised of ugly lesbians. Well, that was pretty far out but Hillary Clinton and her women followers are here umpteen years later to prove him right in his judgement.
I personally do not want a mean, angry and crooked woman to be the president of our great USA. Talk about a spoiler, Hillary is trying to ruin it for the women who want a real change and a decent carrismatic and brilliant Barack Obama to be our president. How dare she damage the democratic party and hurt Obama who it seems may be the best thing to happen in our country since 1968.
And for the democrats to give in to her on so many levels is pretty outrageous.

The most fundamental difference in Barack Obama is that he is NOT a boomer. He missed the 60's, by his own words wasn't involved in the "peace and love" movement, and also wasn't involved, because he was too young, in the culture wars of the time that he says we are still fighting--wars about sexuality, personal freedoms, religion, the politics of personal expression--virtually every fight we're in today with conservatives was born in the 60's.

He's different, both as an individual and as a person with a place in the culture. The word "war" has a different meaning for him than for someone who lived through the Viet Nam era. He's able to look back at the Reagan administration, and notice something that, for those of us who were over thirty at the time would be overshadowed by the politics: he noticed that it was an era of huge change in America. He also intends to bring about that kind of change

He will be the first non-boomer President. Some boomers will be able to be all right with the differences that means and welcome them. Some will openly mistrust him all the way. And some, maybe like the people who support Clinton through all the bullshit, don't even know that it makes them uneasy, only know that Clinton is more comfortable to think about and stick with than this strange animal, Barack Obama, whom they don't really understand.
