Petraeus Moves the Goalposts - Again

Posted by dday, Hullabaloo at 5:01 PM on May 22, 2008.

In a briefing on the Hill today, Gen. Petraeus once again urged the nation to wait just a few more months for improvements in Iraq.

Are people really going to fall for this again?

Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in the war in Iraq, said that he expects this fall to recommend additional cuts in U.S. troop levels there.

He said that he plans to make an assessment by September, when he would move to take over the U.S. Central Command, if he is confirmed for that position, as is expected.

"My sense is I will be able to make a recommendation at that time for further reductions," Petraeus told the Senate Armed Services Committee today in a hearing to confirm him for the Centcom post. He said he didn't know how large those cuts might be.

Yes, just wait until September again. Why are you people so impatient? Five and 1/2 years is a perfectly respectable time to downshift into a commitment of 100,000-plus troops occupying a foreign country.

Anyone who believes this will be at all meaningful and not just a stunt is out of their minds. This has been a constant refrain since the beginning of the war.

p.s. Other interesting bits from this hearing included Petraeus arguing for negotiation and diplomacy with Iran like an appeaser from the Chamberlain school, admitting that the real danger spot in the world is the Afghan-Pakistan border, and his potential successor in Iraq, Raymond Odierno, describing the desired end state in the country and admitting that there would then be no need for US troops. I did a roundup at my site.

Is it possible that the General is related to Dubya and Hillary? Or are they all former football players? Or is moving the goal post more of the same Washington BS?

Why would they EVER confirm him for another post? Hasn't he proven to enough Democrats that he is a paid shill for this president? Hasn't he shown that his career means more to him than the troops he commands? Hasn't he lied enough to them? Hasn't this gone on long enough?

My wish is that they don't confirm him, ask for another nominee, and put it off until after January. They have the ability to do that. The question will be if they have the political will to do the right thing and get rid of him, once and for all.

General Petraues is a CEO in a Army uniform who has sold out his country to get his stars by doing the business of the President no matter if it is against the will of the America people. He is not a soldier. He has never taken the life of his enemy. He is just another Bush in uniform who is only qualified to attack Havard. His report on the insurgency is just his father in laws report Gen. William Knowlton who served two terms in Vietnam. He knows if he lies for Bush he secures for himself a good job for himself in the military industrial complex. My brother who seved in Vietnam said that no war is worth fighting unless there are dead Generals on the battlefield.Where are our dead Generals. None!
Bush is sabotizing his own war. He does not want an easy victory. His fathers only mistake was that he made Saddam Hussien to surrender to quickly. It has been the long term goal of the CIA cold war policy is to occupy Iraq for its oil. Bush Sr failed to force the coalition to stay in Iraq while making the Arabs pay for them to stay in Iraq. In fact, it was the foot soldiers of the Bush clan who cried foul in their offices at their right wing foundations who tried to force Bill Clinton to wage war on Saddam Hussien. When President Clinton refuse to declare war after the fake attempted murder of Bush Sr., Clinton was impeached for rejecting the right wings hidden agenda who had lost control over the nations foreign policy written by the American oil companies. All of Bush friends have gotten rich off of the Presidents war that he has put on America's credit card. He spends all of our money while leaving us the bill. This is how he ran all of his oil companies before they went bankrupt He came into office with the hidden agenda of going back to war in Iraq. But, The Bush clan has been fast tracting all of their YES Generals and Admirals over the years since the days of his grandfather Prescott Bush, a Nazi supporter. Bush jr is the grandson of a Nazi supporter who used the same tatics as the German army when they invaded Poland and the Rhineland.
The great Communist conspiracy in America where this nation had Congressianal hearings was a ruse to hid the fact of all the Nazi's and the Nazi's death squads the CIA/OSS has put on the pay role by the Dulles Brother by both the Secretary of State and the CIA director through the Vatican Ratline and special military units design to bring Nazi's to America with new names whom some were sent to Cuba with the wealth they stole from the Marshall Plan and the Nazi Gold that was never found. Cuba was used to launder money and the wealth of Europe through the Cuban black market. Nazi death squads trained the Cubans death squads headed for the bay of pigs.
