Maybe it's just that I don't want to understand. I want to like Harry Reid, I want to think he's a public servant first and foremost, but when he runs around saying "Joe Lieberman is with us on everything but the war," I have to ask -- who's this "we," kimosabe?

Glenn Greenwald has the rundown:

Bill to ban the CIA from using waterboarding:

  • Democrats -- 45-1

  • Republicans - 5-46

  • Lieberman- NAY

Cloture vote on bill to restore habeas corpus (which Lieberman voted to abolish in 2006):

  • Democrats - 50-0

  • Republicans - 5-42

  • Lieberman - NAY

Vote to strip retroactive amnesty for telecoms out of the FISA bill (h/t Matt Browner-Hamlin):

  • Democrats -- 31-16

  • Republicans - 0-48

  • Lieberman - NAY

Vote to specify that FISA is the "exclusive means" by which the President can spy on telephone and email communications:

  • Democrats -- 49-1

  • Republicans - 9-40

  • Lieberman - NAY

Confirmation of Michael Mukasey as Attorney General:

  • Democrats -- 6-40

  • Republicans - 47-0

  • Lieberman - YEA

Cloture vote to proceed to consideration of No-Confidence Resolution for Alberto Gonzales as Attorney General:

  • Democrats -- 47-0

  • Republicans - 6-37

  • Lieberman - NAY

And let's not forget one of the biggest Lieberman betrayals of all: as part of the Gang of 14, he put Alito on the bench. I understand that there were bubble-headed thinkers like NARAL who just didn't understand that Joe's "yea" vote on cloture was the only one that mattered, a thus sent emails to their members telling them to "thank" him for his "nay" vote on the floor. Harry Reid is Mr. Senate Procedure however, he's rather well versed on the subject and doesn't have that excuse, so I can only conclude that he has noticed Joe running around stumping for John McCain and simply doesn't care. How exactly that is "with us" escapes me.

Didn't Bluto wind up in the Senate?

Lieberman and the Democratic Leadership Council:

Lieberman is a typical Feinstein Democrat - a loyal servant of corporate interests and military contractors who enjoys perks and kickbacks as rewards for his loyalty.

He is also one of the leaders of the Committee on the Present Danger, along with George Schultz of Bechtel and GIlead (Tamiflu) fame, and James Woolsey, Clinton's CIA Director and a major merchant (along with Chalabi) of lies about Iraqi nuclear and biological weapons.

For the complete list of neoliberal pro-corporate Democrats in the DLC, see here: http://www.nndb.com/group/269/000093987/

Note that Harry Reid is not a member - and an off-the-cuff comment about Lieberman, when the guy was doing an interview for his book, is hardly evidence of "covering for him."

The DLC is awful - the lowest of the low - worse than Republicans, in many ways, because they represent a gigantic betrayal of everything Franklin Delano Roosevelt worked for - and if you hate FDR, well, go find yourself a Nazi country to live in.

I voted for Lamont, unfortunately Connecticutites like most Americans don't read books, don't open a paper, and don't look at voting records on the internet, and have no idea what their representative's votes are.

If they did he probably wouldn't have won.

let's hope they strip Lieberman of his committee assignments and cast him into the Republican cesspool. The thought of this neocon masquerading as a Democrat is repugnant and the party would be wise to rid itself of him.

Joe Lieberman is a very despicable person and if Sen. Reid is covering for him, that speaks volumes about Sen. Reid-all negative.

we have a difficult road ahead of us, But here is how we start, Pressure Senators, and Congress. To Pass 100% Public Campaign Financing legislation. We need to make it easier, for good people to do the right thing. As long as they can say they must get elected First, and they need to have large Corporations Pay the Bill. The system will not Change.

I watched Senator Reid on The Daily Show a few nights back. Once again I am amazed that this man ever became the Senate Leader for the Democrats. He is so mealy mouthed that I have to suspect that he is hen pecked by his GOP Senate " Congenial" friends!

Lieberman was elected by republican votes. The democrats should have expelled him from the party count and let him be a republican and lose the majority. Then, the faiure of the false democratic majority to do anything significant could be put where it belongs. Pelosi should have been dropped when she said that impeachment was off the table - impeachment was the only important issue for the US. Even if the senate would not convict, the trial would have made clear to the public where the guilt for our current mess belongs
