Raw Story is running an exclusive by Nick Juliano; some highlights:

"John McCain's temper is well documented. He's called opponents and colleagues 'shitheads,' 'assholes' and in at least one case 'a fucking jerk.'

"But a new book on the presumptive Republican nominee will air perhaps the most shocking angry exchange to date.

"The Real McCain by Cliff Schecter, which will arrive in bookstores next month, reports an angry exchange between McCain and his wife that happened in full view of aides and reporters during a 1992 campaign stop. An advance copy of the book was obtained by RAW STORY."

Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain's intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, 'You're getting a little thin up there.' McCain's face reddened, and he responded, 'At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt.' McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days.
"The man who was known as 'McNasty' in high school has erupted in foul-languaged tirades at political foes and congressional colleagues more-or-less throughout his career, and his quickness to anger has been an issue on the presidential campaign trail as evidence of his fury has surfaced.

"In the book [Schecter] outlines several other examples of McCain loosing his cool and raises the question of how that would affect a McCain presidency."
What should voters make of this pattern? In February 2008 Tim Russert succinctly described McCain on MSNBC's Morning Joe. A devilish grin spread from ear to ear as Russert, no McCain hater, leaned forward and spoke in a whisper, 'He likes to fight.' Russert got it right. But the big question isn't whether McCain likes to fight: it's who, when, and how.
Read the whole thing.

He should reject and denounce himself and them fire himself from his campaign. Anything less will be condoning that sort of language.

laughing....

But really though, a man that speaks to his wife or any woman that way is seriously unhinged and I don't want him anywhere near the phone when it rings at 3 a.m.

deserve each other, don't they? If the reality of it weren't so terrifying, it might be quite amusing to watch what 4 years of that couple in the White House might bring us.

No doubt, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert would reap the benefits.

This is the real story in this: THREE reporters gave details on CONDITION OF ANONYMITY. What the hell is the point of being a reporter if you are afraid to report? What's next, will the anchors have their faces blurred?

If a woman was called a c$nt that would be like praise saying she a real hot woman. Now, if she was called a b!tch, that's a totally different story. McCain, as warped as he is, probably didn't know the difference.

That language is, unfortunately, agist. The only effective way to combat sexism is to be watchful of stereotyping _any_ group.

Your as bad as McCain, I'm sick and tired of you and other men, using the C or B word. How would you like being called a PRICK, that is if you have one. And yes I am a democrat, not one of those sick male republicans who can't make up their mind which way they want to go.

Is McCain the reality based embodiment of:

a) Dr. Strangelove

b) General Buck Turgidson

or c) Col. Bat Guano ?

All I know is anyone who goes nuclear as quickly as he does has no business being the one who "answers the phone at 3am".

If Cindy wants to stay married to this Tasmanian Devil, that's her decision. However, I don't think this country could survive a McCain presidency considering the current damage Bu$hco has wrought.

McNasty really ought to be nicer to the woman whose $100 million family fortune is the reason he can afford to be in politics at all.

Where to start?

This story is so disturbing, it's hard to know where to begin being horrified. Maybe --

That John McCain called his wife a cunt IN FRONT OF REPORTERS and it never came to light when it happened -- during a high-profile political campaign?

That it hasn't come to light during THIS campaign -- where the stakes for the United States and, indeed, the entire world, couldn't possibly be higher?

That, as drmflorida points out, the three reporters verified that it happened -- but only on condition of anonymity? Why? Because, despite the incredible odds to the contrary, it just happened to happen in front of the three biggest cowards in journalism? Or, more likely, because these three reporters -- like all other members of the media, apparently -- know how they will fare if/when John McCain occupies the Oval Office? So censorship is already underway, and McCain didn't even have to initiate it. It's censorship not OF the press, as with Bush/Cheney, but self-censorship BY the press. Good god.

That Cindy McCain didn't kill his abusive ass? Or at least make him nearly wish she had. No one should be talked to that way EVER, much less in front of other people. Must mean there is not, in fact, a pre-nup and she doesn't want him walking away with half her fortune. Sure can understand that. On the other hand, freedom from public humiliation might be a bargain even at that high price. At least think about it, Cindy. Or there's that other option...

I think McNasty will make foul mouth Cheney look like a toddler, but I guess this must be a Republican trademark. Mc's only defense is that he quickly forgets.
