Somebody needs to slap this guy.

Dick Cheney will tell ABC’s Martha Raddatz -- who wrote The Long Road Home: A Story of War and Family about the sacrifice of service members after her assignment covering Iraq -- that Pres. Bush carries the greatest strain for the ongoing occupation. He will also point out that the 4,000 Americans killed so far chose to be there.

Noting the burden placed on military families, the vice president said the biggest burden is carried by President George W. Bush, who made the decision to commit US troops to war, and reminded the public that U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan volunteered for duty.
“It obviously brings home I think for a lot of people the cost that’s involved in the global war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan,” Cheney said in the interview, conducted in Turkey…

“The president carries the biggest burden, obviously,” Cheney said. “He’s the one who has to make the decision to commit young Americans, but we are fortunate to have a group of men and women, the all-volunteer force, who voluntarily put on the uniform and go in harm’s way for the rest of us.”

Well isn’t that a convenient way to get out of taking responsibility. No doubt Cheney is still patting himself on the back all these years later for his cleverness in requesting and receiving five deferments from duty in Vietnam.

One problem with his logic, though, which Raddatz points out.

Raddatz noted that some soldiers, Air Force members, and Marines have been on multiple deployments and have been sent back to Iraq because of the stop-loss policy -- an involuntary extension of a service member’s enlistment contract. The Army alone says 58,000 US soldiers have been redeployed to war because of the stop-loss policy.

“When you talk about an all-volunteer force, some of these soldiers, airmen, Marines have been on two, three, four, some of them more than that, deployments,” Raddatz said. “Do you think when they volunteered they had any idea that there would be so many deployments or stop-loss? Some of those who want to get out can’t because of stop-loss?”
“A lot of men and women sign up because sometimes they will see developments,” Cheney said. “For example, 9/11 stimulated a lot of folks to volunteer for the military because they wanted to be involved in defending the country.”

Unlike you, Dick Cheney, who just wants to run it. Into the ground.

You can watch the shocking and depressing exchange tonight on ABC’s World News.

Henry Rollins had a great point: we should be thankful that cowards like Dick Cheney, George Bush, and Rush Limbaugh evaded their duty to serve in Vietnam. That war was a travesty, but who knows how many additional American lives would have been lost if these sorry sacks of shit had been in the fray. Their clear record of cowardice, greed, and self-interest should have made it clear that they are not fit for combat, let alone running the country.

These children should never have been allowed to play with guns, not to mention entire armies and the tools of state. I long for the day when Americans will get past their tough-talking rhetoric and finally see them for what they truly are: greedy, egotistic babies who mask their inferiority with false bravado and stuffed codpieces.

I would like the US media to play these callous comments of Cheney's over and over and over (at least as much as Rev Wright's "God damn America" comments have been played). Let the Right know that they do not have a monopoly on "supporting the troops". Let young people know that joining the military can be a DEAD-end street, and our government won't care about your death. Let all of us see just how vile and sick our leaders are.

If a Democrat had said these things, they would be branded a traitor by the US media. Cheney, as many already know, has always been a traitor. But I wish more Americans would see this obvious fact.

I am sorry but the article plays kind of fast and loose with the truth . Believe me when I say I hate Dick Cheney as much as anyone and there were many things to call him on but the
video doesn't say what the article seemed to imply which was that he callously dismissed their deaths since they Voluntered . I don't want us to become like them . I could and DO take exception to his remark about Bush bearing the heaviest burden

Biggest Number of Non-Volunteers

The article missed the biggest number of non-volunteers - the National Guard. No one, when they signed up for the National Guard ever expected to leave their state - never mind their country. None of them even thought active war duty was a possibility. Yet they were required to show up to be sent often with little time to prepare. These were mostly married people who had no time to take care of their spouses and families before leaving.

I would like to see them take a show of hands of how many soldiers there would come home tomorrow if they had a choice. And how about the brave ones who have refused to go there (or refused to return). Those, to me, are the real heroes we should be praising.

The biggest burden? Obviously? He wants burden, I say we give him burden!

Mr. Bush, YOU and you alone are responsible for those dead 4,000! Their blood is on your hands! Along with the blood of over a million Iraqis!

Shame on you! Off to the International Criminal Courts with both of you!

They choose to be there? All are volunteers? Dubya has the greatest burden? 2/3 of the American public don't want this "war" and the vice president of the United States' one word answer is "so"??!!

Well I've got a question for ya! What the Hell is wrong with him?!

How many volunteered for stop loss etc?

Stop loss and inadequate equipment?
How many knew that they would be betrayed by rules that changed after they signed up? How many knew that if they had brain injuries and PTSD they would be ignored or mistreated by the VA? etc etc.
How many who had other good opportunities ("better things to do with my time" as Cheney himself once said) have "volunteered?" There hasn't exactly been a rush of college educated war supporters.

Now they're not volunteering in big enough numbers so the standards are being relaxed and relaxed.

Have any members of the extended circle of friends, family, or professional associates of Bush and Cheney "volunteered?"

Only a few of the soldiers actually signed up for Iraq, of course. The rest had already volunteered to serve; only later did they wind up in Iraq & Afghanistan. This only emphasizes the extraordinary insensitivity to all that has taken place and the negative effect on the soldiers, their families and on the Iraqis & Afghans, who will never, ever heal from these terrible wounds inflicted on their society. I won't even bother to mention the laundry list of jokes concerning all this as told by Bush at that secret Republican get-together two weeks ago (that was incidentally caught on a cell-phone camera). I was so enraged at Cheney's comments that I do believe that this made me angrier than all the terrible lies, the looting of the Iraq & Afghan nations and the unconsionable, inhuman treachery of the past 5 years. It is truly, to those of us who have lost so many loved ones and have experienced endless grief for absolutely no reason at all, the greatest hurt of all !!!

It would be redundant to g on about Cheney's prima facia arrogance and indifference but with the U.S. at war you'd think someone there would counsel him on protocol and the army's serious short falls and the need to not say anything stupid or in Cheney's case indicative of his character that would harm enlistment..

I hope all of Americas youth and it's parents took notice of this revealing callous remark..

By our Vice President of the United States..!

...the inane, insane, outrageous, arrogant remarks from anyone in this administration, is for them to be accountable for the lies, deceptions, deaths and other war crimes to numerous to list here.

They need to be impeached, tried, and sentenced to death if found guilty. THIS and ONLY THIS will purify this country and enable it to move on.

The only reason they make such remarks is because they have the power and NO one will hold them accountable for ANYTHING.

So stop complaining and get used to it because this is just the beginning and it is their way of telling you to "get fu@ked, I will do and say what I want because you can't do a fu@king thing about it...eat s$!t."

Do you phone or write to the media with your concerns? Have you ever thought of phoning and writing to CNN and MSNBC and other media every single day to tell them what you expect from them? or to praise the journalists and broadcasters (like Olbermann) that ARE trying to 'get it right'? They ARE out there, MANY of them!

How many of you phone or write to Nancy Pelosi or other dems to tell them you are with them on ending this war, rebuilding Iraq while bringing our military safely home? Do you ever tell the media and elected representatives you really care about our vets and their needs?

Just tell them to do their frigging jobs! We don't need to know about Britney! We don't need to hear about O.J.! I don't care if Spitzer keeps his socks on when he has sex!

Conyers Says He's on Edge of Starting Impeachment
AfterDowningStreet.org
By David Swanson

On Thursday, Chairman John Conyers' House Judiciary Committee held a hearing at which Attorney General Michael Mukasey said that he would not investigate torture (video) or warrantless spying (video), he would not enforce contempt citations (video), and he would treat Justice Department opinions as providing immunity for crimes (report).

None of this was new, but perhaps it touched something in Conyers that had not been touched before. Following the hearing, he and two staffers met for an hour and 15 minutes with two members of Code Pink to discuss impeachment.

Conyers expressed fear of what might happen following an impeachment, fear of installing a Bush replacement or losing an election. The "corporate power structure", he said, would not allow impeachment without unleashing "blowback." Conyers told Ellen Taylor and Manijeh Saba: "You need to be more than brave and courageous. You need to be smart."

Their response? They are asking people who care about justice to help them let Conyers know that the smart thing right now would be bravery and courage.

Let's push Conyers over the edge by flooding his office with phone calls, faxes, and Emails on Monday and Tuesday. Let him know that only impeachment hearings
convince voters that Democrats care about the Constitution.

Yes, poor George. Envious he can't serve in this war because of his age and couldn't be found when he was of age and was supposed to serve! And cheney??? Well, I think he epitomizes arrogance. George Bush carries the biggest burden? Only to the toilet...

Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz all should be flown over Iraq, and be made to parachute out of the plane as far from American soldiers as they can. Let them talk their way out of Iraq!
