Bush Falsely Claims Iran "Declared" It Wants Nukes "to Destroy People"

During a recent interview with Radio Farda, a U.S. government-run radio service that broadcasts into Iran in the Farsi language, President Bush falsely claimed that Iran “declared they want to have a nuclear weapon to destroy people.”

However, the the U.S. intelligence community disagrees. A National Intelligence Estimate on Iran released last December stated unequivocally that Iran had halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003. But also, Iran has never “declared” its intention to acquire nuclear weapons and in fact, it has publicly stated the opposite:

–”Iran has repeatedly denied seeking nuclear warheads, and its supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, issued a religious edict in 2005 forbidding the production, stockpiling and use of such weapons.
–Iran expert and former Bush administration official Suzanne Maloney: “The Iranian government is on the record across the board as saying it does not want a nuclear weapon."

–Non-proliferation expert Joe Cirincione: “Iran has never said it wanted a nuclear weapon for any reason. It’s just not true.

The experts added that Bush’s claim is “troubling,” “as uninformed as [Sen. John] McCain’s [R-AZ] statement that Iran is training al-Qaeda” and “only produces” such rhetoric from Iran.

White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe stretched to explain Bush’s gaffe, saying “the president shorthanded” Iranian President Ahmadinejad’s desire “to wipe Israel off the map.” Asked about Iranian leaders’ potential to exploit Bush’s false claim for political purposes, Johndroe said “I’m not concerned about that. If they want to spin it a certain way, they can do it any way they want.”

Indeed, Bush’s “shorthand” with the facts in the run up to the Iraq war is exactly what led to the “most dangerous” foreign-policy blunder since Vietnam.

Why are the Media Still Making Excuses for McCain's Negativity?
McCain knows exactly what he's doing. He hired Karl Rove's acolytes to turn McCain's campaign into exactly the insulting mess we see today.

BushCo on Whether the Country is in a Recession: 'Don't Know'
Bush and his administration have long resisted admitting that the economy is in trouble by quibbling about the technical definition of "recession."

I believe he is a natural liar. He can't seem to tell the truth, ever, even when there is no obvious benefit to telling a lie.

Unfortunately, many Americans actually prefer to hear politicians' more exciting lies than to be told the tawdry truth. That means that we are partly to blame for being so wilfully ignorant.

That old story about Americans' patriotism and superiority in the morality department is a politician's favorite "hook." It is so obviously self-serving!

As we have all seen, Bush always lies, but he is totally consistent in pursuing his demonic plan of destroying all the countries in the Middle East that do not fall in line with the US. He fully intends to attack Iran before he leaves office and is steadily working towards that goal, e,g the removal of Fallon. If that attack is to be prevented, he must be impeached and removed from power; there is no alternative!

Just watch and listen. This lie about Iran will be repeated, not just by Bush, but by Cheney, possibly by Rice, definitely be Republican pundits and congress-people.

Just yesterday on NPR I heard a conservative pundit say that John McCain's lie about Iran helping Al Qaeda was actually TRUE. Hey, never mind that *the US* is just as likely to be training Al Qaeda as Iran is.

Then there is Bush's recent lie. Bush may just be stupid (ya' think!?), but I bet the "gaffe", as is the case with McCain's statement, was intentional. The proof will be if he repeats it or if any of his surrogates repeat it.
But you know what, the media will probably inevitably go along with the lie in the end, and Americans are at least dumb enough to believe it even if they only hear it from Bush and don't hear any reporters repeat it as truth.

Iran has talked about wiping out the religious state of Israel by allowing all the displaced Palestinians. The ones who's land was stolen the right to return then holding democratic elections.

Israel would be wiped out by the return of displaced Palestinians and democratic elections. Since there would be more Palestinians, the religious state of Israel would be wiped out.

How AlterNet is ignorant of this is beyond my comprehension.

You don't believe we need to go to war with Iran?? According to Cheney, and I paraphrase, "So what? We're gonna do whatever we want regardless of fluctuating public oppinion..."

Impeachment is Imperative
