A Novel Idea for Gun Control? Vasectomies for a Permit

Posted by Richard Blair, The All Spin Zone at 6:26 AM on March 19, 2008.

There’s an old axiom which posits that the number of guns a man owns is inversely proportional to his shortcomings in, eh, other areas.

The Supreme Court has taken up the issue of a restrictive gun control ordinance in Washington, D.C., and is hearing the case today. It goes without saying that uncontrolled handgun proliferation, particularly in urban areas, has become anathema to law enforcement agencies across the country, but don’t look for SCOTUS to uphold the D.C. ordinance.

Perhaps there are other ways, more voluntary in nature, to control the permitting, licensing, and distribution of handguns? Hmmmmmm….

A bandit-infested region of India is trying to persuade men to undergo sterilization by offering to fast-track their gun licence applications, an official said on Tuesday.

Officials in central Madhya Pradesh state’s Shivpuri district decided to adopt the policy — already tried out by some neighboring states — to increase the low vascectomy rate.
“I came to know that it had to do with their perceived notion of manliness,” said Manish Shrivastav, administrative chief of Shivpuri district, part of the Indian Chambal region, which is famed for its lawlessness and bandits.
“I then decided to match it with a bigger symbol of manliness — a gun licence,” he said. “And the ploy worked.” …

Apparently, vasectomy rates have skyrocketed since the “expedited licensing” process was put into place.

Go figure. No word on whether the NRA would support such legislation in the U.S. (as if…)

for getting vasectomies.

and more recently:

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - For the guys who'd like to be parked in front of the TV nonstop during March Madness, also known as the NCAA Tournament, the Oregon Urology Institute has a suggestion: Why not take the time to recover from a vasectomy?

"When March Madness approaches you need an excuse ... to stay at home in front of the big screen," the clinic's radio ad says. "Get your vasectomy at Oregon Urology Institute the day before the tournament starts. It's snip city."

Now this is an stupid post.

Penis size inversely proportional to number of weapons owned? This kind of inane commentary is as retarded as the right-wing drivel dished up daily on FOX.

I suppose we all need large penises - or better yet, none at all in order to be Alternet subscribers?

With schoolkids costing over $7,000 per year in some states a flat $5K handed in cash to any 18 year old who gets a vasectomy plus a certificate of sterility would do wonders for state budgets.

You could even offer free reversals to anybody who can present a marraige certificate and a college degree. The smart guys might get the idea that their fertility was something to be protected and the dumb guys get an icepack and a fun weekend in Vegas.

Considering the world population problem that one measure would solve the issue toots sweets if enacted internationally.
