Who's So Scared of the Spitzer Scandal's Effect on Children?

Posted by Phoenix Woman, Firedoglake at 9:40 AM on March 14, 2008.

Oddly enough, there was no handwringing about "what will we tell the kiddies?" when David Vitter was exposed.

Saw this headline in Yahoo!News: "Spitzer Scandal Tricky for Parents".

Change "Spitzer" to "Clinton", and you have stories that were originally written ten or (like this one by Ron Fournier) eight years ago. Or rather, as this NYT piece shows, Republican TV ads pitching that very point: (And of course last fall, Mitt Romney snidely referenced the awful alleged horrors of parents allegedly needing to explain oral sex to their children as a result of Hillary's Vile Husband. Oh Noes! SexEd! Eeeek! I put my kids in private school just so they'd never learn what a penis is!)

Oddly enough, there was no handwringing about "what will we tell the kiddies?" when David Vitter was exposed. Or Larry Craig. (That's right: Nobody last year was writing stories about poor little kids asking their fathers "Daddy, what's a 'gay prostitute'?"*) Or Bob Livingston. Or Mark Foley. Or Newt Gingrich. Or Philip Giordano. Or Ken Calvert, Or Bob Packwood. Or Dan Burton. Or Helen Chenoweth. Or Jack Ryan. Or... hell, just go here for a by-no-means-complete list of Republican sex scandals that never ever triggered the "what will we tell the children?" concern trolling from the GOP/Media Complex.

Oh, God in Heaven: Now another AP story is headlined "Clues to Spitzer's demise may be found in his childhood". Like he was a goddamn serial killer. Gee, there's nothing like dime-store psychiatry. And now we have yet another concern-troll dissection of What It's Like To Be A Wronged Wife. Again, we saw none of this shit with Larry Craig or David Vitter or any other Republican.

Just kill me now.

From a 11 year old: "Whatever, grownups can be so stupid." Then after a pause, with much concern she asked, "They're not gonna put a Republican in his place, are they?!"

From an 8 year old: "Get a clue, people. Impeach Bush."

That the grups can't get the clue... go figure. What's that proverb about mouths?

Grow up Americans, the urge to screw is a natural urge that MOST people have whether they like it or not. STOP DEMONIZING IT and it will not be such a problem. Boohoo marriage vows broken, well who do you think invented marriage and the "sexual loyalty to one person" that is supposed to be adhered to?? MEN MEN MEN, patriarchs who meant for the rules to apply to their wives but not to themselves. GROW UP AND SEE THINGS FOR WHAT THEY REALLY ARE. Who GIVES A CRAP if Spitzer wants to screw around? He was for controlling the rich a**holes on Wall Street, whom dumb Americans usually vote for out of stupidity. Now we can only hope Spitzer's replacement will also try to control the greedy Wall Street finance cretins.

Watched the ABC news clip on that YahooNews page... holy craptastic sensationalism, batman! This is what 'Merkaans call "news"?! I felt dirty, like I did the one time I was forced by a watchdog group job to watch Entertainment Tonight and Inside Edition. The Mouse has even corrupted ABC news... no wonder Bush is still in office today. With stoopid like that... who needs a brain?

Yes, Spitzer did a dumb thing. But, did it hurt you or me? Not a bit. I wonder what dirt could be found on Bush, Cheney, Rove, Ashcroft, Laura and those non-working twins?

"Hormones make you stupid"

That's what I tell my two daughters. Hormones make adults do stupid things and when you get hormones you too will want to do stupid things also. Try to limit your stupidity to things that don't damage your health or social standing.

They don't seem to have a problem with agreeing with me.

Ever notice how they tune things out? They find grownups to be boring and have very little interest in what they do. A 14 yr. old picturing Spitzer having a roll in the hay will fall over laughing. They think he's an old geezer. No harm in that. I wouldn't worry about them. ANNA
