Why Hasn't David Vitter Resigned?

Posted by Adam Howard, AlterNet at 10:19 AM on March 12, 2008.

And what about Larry Craig, Dick Morris, John McCain and for the matter, George Bush and Dick Cheney?

Following nearly three days of intense media scrutiny, which has now led to Eliot Spitzer's resignation, Democrats are asking a legitimate question: What about David Vitter...Dick Morris...Larry Craig...John McCain and for that matter Dick Cheney and George Bush?:

Karl Rove just added another Democratic scalp to his collection: Eliot Spitzer's.

Spitzer has not been charged with any crime. He was railroaded by the Corporate Media, led by Rupert Murdoch's NYPost and FOX News, with Karl Rove's "loyal Bushies" leaking furiously from Bush's InJustice Department.

So what's the standard here? If hiring prostitutes is a disqualification for office, then David Vitter must resign today too. In fact, a good chunk of the men in politics must also resign (and possibly a few women as well). And a bunch of reporters and editors must quit as well. And pundits too - yes I'm talking 'bout you, Dick Toesucker Morris.

If adultery is the standard, then Larry Craig must resign today, along with half the men in politics and the media.

If hypocrisy is the standard, then everyone in politics and the media must resign today, because there isn't one who isn't a hypocrite in some large or small way. Take Saint John McCain on torture, campaign finance, immigration, Iraq, global warming, lobbyists... you name it.

And if a criminal violation is the standard, then George Bush and Dick Cheney should not only resign immediately, they should go before a firing squad for war crimes (invading Iraq and torture) and treason (outing Valerie Plame).

The so-called liberal media did not give Spitzer any easier treatment than a Republican would receive during the revelation of his prostitution scandal and unlike the Republicans who had the gall to applaud David Vitter when he acknowledged his infidelities with hookers, Democrats in New York and around the country were quick to recommend Spitzer take responsibility for his actions and step down. So why the double standard?

Digg!

Too funny, democrats jump all over a republican for doing what Spitzer did.. If Spitzer were a republican do you think you'd see this article written?? I doubt it!

Strange how this leaked a day prior to Eliot's Op Ed attacking Bush Admin.

Strange timing. This leak dominated the news cycle just prior to Eliot's NYTimes oped charging the Bush Administration with blocking states from acting against the banks offering deceptive loans. This administration certainly is a master of controlling the news cycle.

Strange investigation. This investigation was cut off and the wiretaps were cut off as soon as they got the goods on Eliot. The wire tap warrants ran for far longer than they were used.

Could this be a direct continuation of "Justice" targeting of prominent Dems?

Strange Eliot. That he actively increased penalties on "Johns" in NY state is hypocrisy on the highest level and I do and will not forgive him for this. I don't like the long standing institution of prostitution, but, I don't personally think it should be criminal either. It is too hard to control the worst abuses while prostitution is illegal.

Personally, I'm deeply disappointed that his public career is apparently over. On the other hand, Vitter would have been and hopefully will eventually be a very welcome removal due to an almost if not equal level of hypocrisy. He just doesn't remotely have the decency to remove himself, so maybe, the voters will correct his error.

Sex is sex

A person's sexual activity is between that person and the other person consentually engaged. It does not matter to me what the proclivity or activity. It has no bearing on the individual's ability to work, to guide a government, to correct true crimes. Prostitution is the world's oldest profession and should be legalized for everyone regardless of age, race, creed, gender, sexual orientation, etc. It is victimless--unless there is a compact between two individuals pledged to monogamy. Spitzer should never have resigned. The conservative media is the second most evil force in the USA.

And I agree with the author of the article. Bush and Cheney should be tried for crimes against humanity and shot--but they should be executed along with Rice, Rumsfeld, Gates, and the rest of their advisers.

Every outraged person on the Left has an obligation

to scream and shut down their cities in the streets until all these asswipes have resigned. If not, the hypocrisy hoo hah folks show their true stripes: charlatans and sheeple.

If you're outraged at Elliot's hypocrisy you have an OBLIGATION, a DUTY to do raise Cain until the other hypocrites are out of office. Because if you DON'T, you're a traitor guilty of treason because you are giving the Bush junta COVER for a political hit. That's where the factual evidence of this situation lies, a political hit calculated to shut down progressive laws and law enforcement. If you're outraged at the hypocrisy of Spitzer, and you're not screaming and spitting venom at his ilk on the other side of the aisle, then you're giving Bush and his people what they want, you're a collaborator, a conspirator.

FIRST, we need a backbone!

As stated several times above, the Dems' lack of backbone (i.e. guts, balls, juevos, chutzpah, whatever) is the very reason why these hypocrites carry on with business as usual.

Larry Craig is a prime example. He did everything that Spitzer did with some major additions: public instead of private, secretly (and denyingly) gay instead of straight - and worst of all - sleezebags in bathroom stalls instead of high priced call girls. And yet, he's still in office on our dime, and raises no eyebrows beyond the occasional late night punchline. What does it TAKE, people? Sacrificing a goat while eating a baby? Would that even raise ire any more?

Then again, torturing and murdering women got little mention during that time we all discussed dog fighting. And THAT'S the world we live in! Sad, really sad.....

"corruption is why we win": we let the MORAL MAJORITY criminalize VICE

Vice
.
.
.
Think about it...

The Thieves of Virtue: legislating morality undermines representative government.

really, VICE is contextual:
* gender
* ethnicity
* age
* race...

all pay a part in morals. but VICE, should never be *criminalized*, especially in a nation where PRIVACY has been abolished.

Who is PERFECT ENOUGH to represent THE PEOPLE or a populist reform when there is neither privacy nor the Will to preserve privacy in society?
Who stands *for the People* when Money & Power exert corrosive controls to extend their oppression & corruption?

You've been *had*

Nobody is immune to *vice* as VICE is about how ONE PERSON privately & personally determines *how to enjoy their own body*... Naked Truth: Civil Rights & CNN coverage of "F.B.I. biometric database - 'Server in the Sky'"
...& THAT is how THE MORAL MAJORITY ensured Money & Power will kill representative government for The Peoples who seek JUSTICE, Freedom & Human Rights.
