Bipartisan Concern About the Dangers of McPalin’s Hate-Mongering
Emptywheel Firedoglake

(UPDATE: Oh, the hilarity - you know what Kern is now citing as “proof” of the Homosexual Agenda? The drivel of Matt Bam Bam Barber, policy director for Concerned Women for America and The Peter! — hat tip, Alvin.)

(UPDATE 2: I’ve added contact information for the OK City Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau below the fold. These entities have much at stake since this is Sally Kern’s district. Are her views as a public official representative of the business climate that the city wishes to project? They should be on the record.)

Heaven help the LGBT citizens and allies who are in Oklahoma; there’s a lot of work to do in terms of turning the tide of ignorance and hate when an outrageous homophobe like Sally Kern receives a standing ovation in the legislature. Let all the bigots stand up and be counted, I say. Her colleagues should proudly hold a press conference to declare their support of Kern.

A state lawmaker who declared that homosexuality is a greater threat to the United States than terrorism said Monday that she received a standing ovation from her fellow Republican legislators Monday.

Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City, said she has been barraged with more than 5,000 e-mails since she made national headlines over the weekend. Most of the communications were critical, and several contained language that Kern said she has never heard before.

The lawmaker related some of the e-mails to Republican caucus members in a closed meeting Monday. She later said the group gave her a standing ovation.
Rep. Al McAffrey, the only openly gay member of the state Legislature, said he resents Kern’s assertion that homosexuality is worse than terrorism.
“Gays are law-abiding; they pay taxes. Some have children,” he said, noting that he is a father and grandfather.

… A former teacher, Kern asserted that the government wants to get young children into school at a very early age so it can indoctrinate them.

I love this quote from Laura Belmonte, president of the Tulsa group Oklahomans for Equality: Kern “is not saying anything markedly different than she has over the last several years. The only difference is that she is getting national exposure.”

Let’s look at the homobigoted, fact-free, BS screed captured for all to hear once again:

And that’s the truth. Keep the truth telling coming: Oklahoma State Rep. Sally Kern (sallykern@okhouse.gov). There’s a petition to remove Kern going as well. How about contacting the governor — politely ask him to to take a stand against Representative Kern's hate filled remarks and publicly condemn them. Rep. Kern’s dehumanizing worldview gives license for those with similar views to harm innocent people.

2300 N. Lincoln Blvd., Room 212

Oklahoma City, OK 73105

Telephone:(405) 521-2342

Fax:(405) 521-3353

How about Oklahoma residents filling out the governor’s “Suggestions to Improve Government” form?

And what about Sally Kern’s colleagues on the Education Committee? Do they share her views about what children should be told about their fellow citizens who may be LGBT? It would be good to politely ask what Rep. Tad Jones, the Chair of the committee, thinks of Kern’s comments. Folks could ask the same of Rep. Todd Thomsen, the Vice Chair.

The Fraud Of Fraud
The process of turning ACORN into a terrorist sleeper cell has begun and I see little hope that they aren't going to be successful.

Whenever people use the term "lifestyle" in relation to sexual orientation, you can bet that the only thing they know about homosexuality is what the GOP talking points tell them. That word is a red flag; it indicates the lack of any real understanding of sexual orientation and usually means you're dealing with a bigot.

Well, Kern is from Oklahoma City. You would THINK she would view terrorism as a significant threat, much more a threat than homosexuality. After all, Tim McVeigh wasn't gay. (Maybe he was. I don't know.)

In any case, those of all sexual persuasions who are so afraid of and bigoted against homosexuals have some real twisted issues. (I bet they support torture too. That would figure.)

Send her to Washington, thereby raising the average intelligence of the remaining residents here in the state of Okie Dokie.

that one's homophobia is directly proportional to the amount of down-low gay sex one is having or wants to have, the Oklahoma state Repub caucus must reek of Astroglide.
And santorum.

and tell them if that's the kind of representation they want for their part of the state that any dollars we would have spent to help their economy has just been tanked.

I know it sounds trite, but this is just awful.

It is a shame someone like Sally Kern was ever elected to serve as a state representative. Her hatred toward the homosexual community is personal, direct and insulting. Such prejudices should disqualify any person serving as state representative as they take an oath to serve all the people within their district. It's obvious she only serves her personal interests. She embodies all the traits of a selfrighteous, warped demagogue and should resign from public office.

Rep. Kern is a member of the KKK religious group known as the Baptist Church and her husband is a "preacher" for the same. She was most likely "raised" as a bible thumper and brainwashed into her current state of mind which is pathetic. She doesn't have an original thought of her own and just espouses the current hate dialog of her KKK church doctrine. She is just another nefarious red neck! If there was a real god or real jesus she wouldn't act this way!

She is stupid and mean and people like her are far more dangerous to our country than terrorists. Actually, she sounds like a Saudi Mullah. And she is just as ugly.

this doesn't surprise me one iota...oklahoma is the buckle on the bible belt had has produced such luminaries as tom coburn (who when running claimed southwestern ok was "overrun with lesbians") and jim "there is no climate change" inhofe... kudos though, to laura "dr. b" belmonte - had her as both an undergrad and master's student at osu - she is a fine person, indeed!

May this yo-yo-ess (notice my respect forthe oppposite sex giving her the special feminine form, at least if you know English that's how that works) enjoy as much time in her Christian (not MY Chrisitian) eternity with all its love and compassion as was taught, as she deserves. If she belives all that, she well deserves it. My KKK-loving "step father" (ex Florida) had one thing right anyhow, once you are dead you are dead for a long, long time. And to enjoy the fruits of eternity as "given" by types like this one, you need to get dead first, well, best hopes and good wishes. Did you know that homosexuals love you types just as much as you love homosexuals? And that each and every one of them has a mother and a father? Do you then wonder if momsy and dadsy were raising junior to be a homosexual on purpose? I wonder, I really do. Well, not much, but she should, for of course there has to be a divine explanation for it all, it's according to a divine plan, isn't it?
