More Police Thuggery: Cop Attacks 14-Year-Old Skateboarder

This unhinged, power-mad member of the Baltimore Police Department, Officer Salvatore Rivieri, was suspended after an incident last year, captured on video, where he attacked a skateboarder down at the Inner Harbor, where skateboarding is banned. Rivieri, instead of simply telling them to break it up, he gives the beat-down to 14-year-old Eric Bush. (AP):

Officer Salvatore Rivieri, a 17-year-old veteran, is the subject of an internal affairs investigation, said Sterling Clifford, a spokesman for the Baltimore Police Department and the mayor's office.

"The entire incident raised red flags for all of the members of the command staff who watched the video," Clifford told The (Baltimore) Sun. The video, apparently shot last summer, shows Rivieri putting the youth, 14-year-old Eric Bush, into a headlock and pushing him to the ground.

"He was just, like, getting an attitude with me, and said he was going to slap me upside down my face, and I was just going on with it and then he tackled me," Bush told WJZ-TV.

At one point on the video, Rivieri said, "Obviously, your parents don't put a foot in your butt quite enough, because you don't understand the meaning of respect. First of all, you better learn how to speak. I'm not 'man.' I'm not 'dude,' I am Officer Rivieri."

OK. So the kid was rude. Why is Rivieri wasting his punk energy on this kid? All that's missing from the encounter is the officer grabbing his crotch to show Bush who's boss.

Baltimore residents out there, wouldn't you prefer to have your tax dollars go toward police officers focusing on real urban crime (drug dealers, street thugs), rather than kids skateboarding? I can guarantee you that Rivieri wouldn't be seen performing this sort of testosterone-laced hissy fit if he was faced with seasoned, weapon-carrying criminals.

Officer Salvatore "Dude" Rivieri Kicks Car Over - NEW VIDEO

Here is another on tape incident involving the same officer. Obviously he has an issue. This is getting too commonplace with the serve and protect crowd.

Officer Salavtore "Farva" Rivieri Needs to get Fired

It's pretty clear he has an out of control temper, needs to be fired from his law enforcement job, and undergo anger management courses.

He reminds me of Farva from Super Troopers.

The kid wasn't rude

In my opinion, the 14 year old was handling himself pretty well. He did some back talk, but it's not like he did anything super harmful. That officer is lucky that he was yelling at a calm 14 year old than at me. I'm 18 and I would have thrown a straight right right to his jaw.

Another product of our violent macho gun culture

This is just another symptom of our culture which worships violence, guns and so-called masculinity. My god, look at the Oscar winner for best picture.
If straight men did not run the show, our culture would not be like this.

Just at the end, the officer notices the camera, luckily the person behind it had already face it down. Otherwise we would not have seen the evidence. And you know the officer would have denied doing anything wrong if there was no film.

Now he's all over the web, serves him right.

He belongs in jail. His job is not to beat up on a kid because of a skateboard. He's twice as big as the boy. I'm tired of hearing about people and their issues and anger. Go take a pill and get a desk job. Thanks, ANNA

STEROID ABUSE

I think our country would be better served if we looked into steroid abuse by our police force rather than professional sports. This looks like roid rage to me. I hope the police "review" considers this element when they look at this case. This officer doesn't belong on the streets or interfacing with citizens.

note on the video: rinky-dink cop, rinky-dink car. they didn't even trust this guy with a real automobile. must be well thought of even among his peers

... I have a friend who lives in Baltimore who says these kids were apparently hoping for just such an outcome, which they could film and upload to a video site like YouTube.

And I do think that although this officer has problems which need to be addressed, the kids have worse problems. This lack of respect is endemic in the UK and causes endless problems because the kids know better than anyone that their behaviour will go unpunished.

How can we expect kids to not cross lines when we won't adequately demonstrate where those lines are?

please move along. The situation is under control.
The malls are still open. Move along.

Good thing we nipped that potential source of trouble in the bud. Stupid kids and their skateboards. All they think about is having fun.

Move along everybody. Keep those line orderly.
Do not speak to the officer, obey his instructions, he has important security issues to address, just keep moving. Listen and obey.

This was a classic " South Park, Cartman" moment:
"Respect my authority!!!" The PO even looks a little like Cartman...

Bottom line: Our kids deserve much, much better than this.

I am an ex-police officer. (I left the department 29 years ago to join the army because I was tired of getting shot at literally and metaphorically.) I have always taught my children that they should respect the police, that if they are in trouble or need assistance, they should turn to the police.

I still believe that. This guy is out of control. He should be sanctioned, but let's not throw out the baby with the bath water.

Do you think that 14 year old will forget this incident?
How could that boy ever respect the police after an ancounter like that? Individuals or badges EARN respect... it cannot be demanded.

This is why the second amendment is crucial.

Rude?

Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
The kid wasn't that rude. Maybe in some draconian way, but that's not the time we live in. "Man" and "dude" are friendly terms, and have been for decades. The cop was rude, over the top, power-mad, and extreme. NONE of this should be put on the kid.

I presume that 95% of the responders here are younger, much younger than I. (73)
Otherwise, this would not be an issue. When I was 14, you feared the law. And that was a good thing.
Look at the juvenile crime rates from 1950s and those of today.
This Officer did lose his temper. The kid may not have been a threat, but what did the Cop say that was wrong? Nothing. How many times was I yelled at by a cop when I was a teenager. Would I have responded by calling Officer Bimpson (Hollywood PD) a "dude"? I think not. Would I have tried to keep my property from being impounded physically? I thnk not.
Skateboarding is not allowed where he was doing it. Skateboarding is an annoyance and a menace to pedestrians. Had this kid knocked some old lady down and injured her, the outcry would have been "where were the cops"?
The tone of all these comments shows to me that discipline, courtesy and respect are no longer priority's.
What this kid needed was for his parents to put that boot up his Ass. Now he thinks he can get away with anything and poor mommy will back him up.
Hero Cop in my book.

These kids were trying to comply while mr."no respect" verbally and physically abused them.

No respect? Try having respect for yourself and put on some long pants bumbledude. There ought to be a law against looking ridiculous on duty.

I would have quit if any idiot attempted to dress me in a clown uniform and put me in a clown car and send me out in public. No wonder the guy has a short fuse. That police department is clearly run by a bunch of demented wannabe kindergarten teachers.

Unless there was a lot more than happened before the video was started, the cop was totally out of line. As a matter of fact he assaulted the kid and ought to be disciplined and/or fired for conduct unbecoming.

Then the whole upper command should be fired for making their officers look like clowns. The first "disrespect" in this whole scene is by the police administration who puts people in absurd uniforms. Amazing!! They should take action and make the bosses provide a real police uniform and real police vehicles.

On the other hand, how do we know that there wasn't a lot of provocation before the clip that we see in this video. We know that video doesn't lie, but liars can use and edit video so that it certainly does not tell the truth.

This officer approached the situation in a totally unprofessional manner. The cops NEVER have the right to initiate an investigation with anger, they work for us.

The most "confrontational" thing this kid said was: "I don't have a father" which somehow gave the bumblebee the right to verbally harass him further.

This kiddie cop just wanted to inflict his own abusive story on young people enjoying life at their leisure. 10 to 1 this guy suffered the exact same brand of abuse when he was young. Apparently for some, the Golden rule of "Do unto others" continues: "as others have done unto you."

And for those of you who think some little old lady could have been knocked down while they were having their fun, it looks to me like the kids naturally chose a place where no one would get in their way. Duh.

The establishment oscillates wildly between glorifying and victimizing youth. One day a kid is executing killer loops in a half-pipe and the other he is a renegade knocking people on their asses at the mall.

Skateboarding has been incredibly popular since the 60's, why aren't there more places where skateboarding is encouraged as the brave and graceful sport it is?

Oh, I know. Then idiots like the guy in the insane get-up calling himself a cop won't be able to assault otherwise peace and freedom loving citizens.

This fat loud mouth is a disgrace too the human race. Imagine this bully carring a gun? I know he has a problem, and he is trouble with a capital T. I would love too see a bigger kid like 15 years old kick his ass and put it on you tube. Fire the jerk or fire the one who won't fire the fat piece of crap. Hey kid sue the city for assult and battery, that's a felony. He wants respect driving that donut mobile hahahaha and those shorts hahahah what a pathetic loser. Where are those gang bangers when you need em. I'd bet he don't even get out of that donut except for senior citizens or little kids. The kid should have made fun of him to make him chase him but he might of got shot a dozen times for a skate board is a weapon of mass confusion. Are all the cops in Baltimore like him? No wounder cops are hated as this guy is one of the worst examples I've seen yet. Send him too Iraq so he can get some real action and lose 100 lb.

Actually, I'm more concerned about the cop's behavior. He is the "authority". My tax dollars go towards his salary. As a public servant, he represents me.

The kid is being a kid. (Good job!)

You obviously have a lot of issues with kids. Your very mature comments/postings make that very clear.

This is the guy the libs want in control of all the guns while regular citizens get none? It's easy for cops to get on a power kick. Unless someone manages to catch them on tape, they basically can act however they want.
