Huckabee's New Goal: A Deadlocked GOP Convention

With McCain's current problems, Huck's strategy might not be so far fetched.

Against all odds, Mike Huckabee is still in the GOP race. What's his motivation? A Veep spot on the McCain ticket? That'll never happen. No, Huck's still reaching for the brass ring, but via a different route...

It's interesting that the GOP nomination has come down to two candidates who, six months ago, no one thought had a chance. John McCain was left for roadkill on the highway, his campaign was in disarray, and he was out of cash. Mike Huckabee was polling beneath Ron Paul, and he was viewed as largely a fringe issue candidate. Neither of these guys inspired the true controllers of the GOP: the bagmen and corporate water carriers.

A strange thing happened. The guy that the controllers really wanted (9iu11iani) flamed out early, when his escapades as mayor of New York became public. The other guy that the controllers could get behind (Mitt Romney) was a Mormon, and never really had a shot, no matter how much they fooled themselves.

Then, the fundies started squawking. Dobson and his fringe fundamentalist flying monkeys said that there was no way they could vote for morally damaged goods such as 9iu11iani, or a cult follower like Romney, or an un-conservative maverick such as McCain. So, the voters went to the poll, and (marginally) rebuked the fundies, finding McCain to be the most acceptable. But Huckabee hung around, because his support was bedrock and unmoveable. And even as the others fell by the wayside, Huckabee remained standing. Heck, he even took a few days off the campaign trail to fly to the Caribbean.

As McCain piled up the victories, the million dollar question in the legacy media became: why is Huckabee staying in, when he has virtually no shot at collecting enough delegates in the remaining primaries to sew up the nomination?

The answer came today in a Huckabee interview on WOAI radio in San Antonio, Tx.:

In an interview with 1200 WOAI news during his swing through Texas, longshot Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee outlined a strategy which has him not winning the GOP nomination outright, but pushing the nomination to the September Republican National Convention, which he says will turn to him as the most 'conservative alternative.'

The 'brokered convention' plan is in stark contrast to Huckabee's previous sunny predictions of a sweep to victory in the primaries and caucuses on the shoulders of adoring family values conservatives...

I'm not surprised. But what I am surprised about is that Huckabee was willing to go public with this strategy, and make his intentions known. With the Texas GOP primary in the wings, where Huck will certainly garner a lot of support, the strategy might be smart like a fox. His goal, at this point, is to deny McCain the total number of delegates that he needs on a first - and second - and third - nomination vote at the convention.

He's looking to deadlock the convention, and then in a weird kind of Jesus-fueled optimism, expects the convention delegates to break for him. With McCain's current problems, Huck's strategy might not be so far fetched.

The only reason McCain is getting press this morning is the possible sex scandal. The people really do love their corruption mixed with sex and money, and they'll pay fond attention to it.

Outside of that story, where was the heavy, detailed reportage of the race for the Republican nomination? Nowhere. The country is taken up with the rivalry for the Democratic nomination, because people know that the person nominated will be the next President, no matter which one prevails.

McCain, as bad as he is, is all the Death Party has, and they know it. The Death Party candidate is usually nominated by fiat, and it will be fun to watch them trip all over themselves at the convention and throw bombs and be divisive for a change. They have a bunch of pathetic unelectables standing in a line, starting with Huckabee. Mitty probably can't control his drooling over this little bit of news.

In terms of candidates, the Party of Death has nowhere to go but down.

Maybe he just follows my advice. Long time readers might recall I laid out a strategy to end the drug war based on religious freedom for potheads.

In the course of this endeavor it has been interesting to see who picks up my message. Huckabee was one of the early ones and it has suited him well. Since a major part of my strategy is openness and his strategy seems to be faith, I am not surprised.

When I see that line I just think of what kind of state the Clinton's left AK in to have a guy like Huck follow.

Though we have friends from AK, they live up here now and don't like talking about the politics of their home state.

I'm certainly pulling for Gov Huckabee, as Sen McCain has an outside chance of election. Huckabee v Obama would give us the kind of choice we haven't had in a long time (think Wilson v Taft). Ron Paul will likely get more votes in the general election than Huckleberry (like TR in '12).

The only straight shooter and defender of the Constitution is still in the race. I voted for him with an absentee ballot here in Ohio. To all the naysayers proclaiming he can't win; I say he can and should. Just look at the competition. Hillary (CFR and Bilderberger, with tons of political baggage; Obama for Change? He to is funded by the mutinationals and both he and his wife are CFR One Workd Order discipiles of Rockefeller. Huck? You can't be serious! Ron Paul has written books on economics; he will end these illegal wars and bring our troops home safely. He will restore the Constitution that both parties have allowed our current dictator to all but destroy. Heck write Ron Paul in, donate to ronpaul2008.com This great Doctor is our best and last hope!

I don't care what level of politics you occupy, I don't care what you're running for. Under NO circumstances, do you EVER give away your strategy in a public forum. National television, radio, the bathroom stall...doesn't matter. What Huckabee doesn't seem to understand is that he has just given his opponents his victory strategy...WITHOUT A FIGHT! I will concede that this admission could have been a blind to whatever his real strategy is...but he doesn't strike me as being that devious.

The other problem with the strategy that he let slip out of his big mouth was, even if he succeeds, he will have effectively killed any chance for victory in the general election. Any hopes of rallying the already-fracturing GOP troops is going to be destroyed by this game plan, just when tight discipline and solid ranks would be needed. Foolish, foolish move...

Oh well...his party's loss, our gain.

Good, Bad or Indifferent, Senator McCain will get the nod of the Republican Party for President. He has proven time after time that he is his own man. Over the many years of public service, he has taken the road less travelled, and stands for honesty, intergrity and positive action in the Senate.

The media bents stories to meet their own agenda's and do not always look for the truth before publication. The truth is often times reported as gospel without verification.

Each and every person/voter should take it upon themselves to seek the truth by taking a look at each of their Senators and Representatives voting record, prior to voting yea or ney in the general elections. Listen to the input received from all sources and then make a logical decision as to how to vote for the best candidate. This often times means to not vote strickly along party lines.

Vote for the person(s) rather than the party line. Enough said!!!!!!

So Huckabee will try to steal the Republican nomination, despite voter preferences, in much the same way that Hillary might try to steal the Democratic nomination?
Hill-abee.

But I think Huckabee's real motivation for staying in the race is: 1) Wait for McCain to die of old age, hopefully before the convention. 2) God told him that he (Huckabee) would be president. So Huckster is just living out the divine plan.

In case you younger folks didn't know:
John McCain is one of the infamous "Keating Five." He is now and always has been a "friend indeed" of lobbyists of all stripes.
McCain most certainly is not a knight in shining armor. His armor is well tarnished and covered in slime!

Another lurking candidate

This thread has been an absolute joy and more times than not, hilarious to read. HOWEVER, on a tiny serious thought.....Perhaps you have forgotten there is another swarmy republican candidate lurking in the bushes. One Mitt Romney who didn't quit but merely suspended his campaign. (By the way, can a suspended candidate take back his treasure trove of delegates?)

I wonder if that is the reason why the Huckster is hanging on and the Romney forces are just in "suspension," Do you think these other erstwhile candidates are waiting for a major shoe to drop which it came close to doing but the NYT screwed it up.

Nah, that's what movies are made of, right?
