AP Suggests Ron Paul Could Win Nevada

Posted by Jane Hamsher, Firedoglake at 8:56 AM on January 17, 2008.

It's hard to imagine anything making the GOP presidential race any more chaotic, disorganized and comical than a Paul victory in Nevada.

Polling accurately in Nevada is tough to do, and ARG has Ron Paul in fifth place (9%) while Research 2000 has him in sixth (6%). But the Associated Press says the Paulistas just might strike it rich in Vegas:

Republican candidates have stayed away from the diverse electorate and unfamiliar electoral landscape as Nevada voters weigh in earlier than ever before.

No major GOP candidate has set foot in the state for two months, and some Republicans are bracing for a possible surprise first-place showing by long-shot Texas Rep. Ron Paul, the only Republican to broadcast TV ads in Nevada.

He beat Rudy Giuliani like a drum in Michigan. And the Michigan GOP thinks McCain won. The party is in complete disarray, with a pack of flawed candidates and no clear winner emerging. It's hard to imagine anything making the GOP presidential race any more chaotic, disorganized and comical than it is, but a Paul victory in Nevada could do it.

It's a long shot, but I'm pulling for him.

If it was New Hampshire, I could just hop in the car and go vote for him being as I live in the state right next door. I have to admit it is tempting, but as a former Democrat, I'm still pulling for Kucinich.

I am very impressed with what he is trying to achieve. Ron Paul too, but in a different way. All of the mavericks in this campaign, they really spice it up. Thanks guys.

Put the spot light on Ron Paul

Ron Paul's message rings true but the tone has a lot to do with the media tuning him out. The old adage "it's not what you say but how you say it" would go a long way to tailor the message to be palatable so as to help shine the spotlight directly on him and allow more of the public to hear what he has to say.

The media, when it comes to elections, should allow the truth to ring loud and clear. Put ratings on the back burner and allow the candidates to have a voice. To not do so makes it looks like big business is shaping the political elections in their favor. If true, once again the voters are left out in the cold with no real choices. Is this what the founding fathers had in mind for how a democracy is to conduct it's self? I think not.

The Ron Paul Candidacy
Posted by: Sissy on Jan 17, 2008 10:26 AM

The passion that Ron Paul has raised in his candidacy is mind boggling. So is the Wisconsin State Historical Society's Archives which has the papers that a journalist from the New Repbulic found. His name is James Kirchick and he posted a story on his magazine's web site about the so-called "newsletters written in the 1980s and 1990s under the name of RON PAUL, a Texas Congressman".

Kirchick states that "what they reveal are decades worth of obsession with conspiracies, sympathy for the right-wing militia movement and deeply held bigotry against blacks, Jews and gays. In short they suggest that Ron Paul is not the plain-speaking, antiwar activist his supporters believe they are backing, but rather a member in good standing of some of the oldest and ugliest traditions in American politics."

We aren't talking one or two newsletters "written over his name" here. We are talking decades worth and you know what? How many of you would allow anyone and I mean anyone to write and opine on issues using your name and which you supposedly didn't have a clue that it was happening? Articles that attacked Martin Luther King Jr, praised the KKK's David Duke; championed quarantining people with AIDS; bashed Israel, "an aggressive, national socialist state", and supported the right-wing anti-government militia movement in the United States.

The article in which all of this information appeared in the Friday, January 11, 2008 edition of the Capital Times, Madison, WI.

Wish: a Dennis Kucinich vs. Ron Paul debate with Jon Stewart moderating

First of all, they'd discuss the issues, because that's all those candidates ever talk about - the issues.

Second, they don't agree on a lot of topics and the debate would be vigorous and intelligent and we'd all probably learn a lot from watching it.

Third, Jon Stewart is the only person who should host this debate - for obvious reasons.

Can someone arrange this? Think about how fantastic it would be!

Ron Paul: Stealth GOP VP Candidate?

Paul would make a very interesting pick as a VP candidate to just about any of the front runners-- especially Huck and Romney. I don't know if he'd sign on the dotted line or not, but he could pull votes from a number of independents and some dems. Let's hope not.

Another reason to think Paul might pull a surprise in Nevada

Yesterday I had to spend some time on the phone with a DirecTV tech, resetting my receiver. While we waited for the system to reboot, we chatted about this and that. I asked if he was going to caucus, and he said he was. I mentioned I'm supporting John Edwards, and he said he was interested in -- Ron Paul!
Hmmmm. If Paul is catching the young techies, who knows what can happen? (The young man's reason for supporting Paul was his anxiety about attacks on the Constitution and civil liberties, btw.)

Ron Paul is the top republican candidate

Ron Paul is the only true republican of all the republican candidates.

The powers that be have picked their president puppet already. The false media will lend the spot light. Our electoral system is broken. The debates are an injustice to intelligent minds. This is not a democracy. Our country is in big trouble.

I'll vote Kucinich, but unfortunately, like Paul, he has been rubbed out.
