Huckabee Wants to Rewrite Constitution, Says It's Easier to Change Than "Word of Living God"

Radical cleric and Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee wants to rewrite the constitution:

The United States Constitution never uses the word "God" or makes mention of any religion, drawing its sole authority from "We the People." However, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee thinks it's time to put an end to that.

"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution," Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."

When Willie Geist reported Huckabee's opinion on MSNBC's Morning Joe, co-host Mika Brzezinski was almost speechless, and even Joe Scarborough couldn't immediately find much to say beyond calling it "interesting." [Raw Story]

For starters, Huckabee (may have) supported a proposal to rewrite the 14th Amendment to deny citizenship to children born on US soil to undocumented immigrant parents. Huckabee is the only presidential candidate to have called for the elimination of birthright citizenship.

Correction: Earlier I wrote that Huckabee opposed birthright citizenship. Actually, it's more complicated and interesting than that. Huckabee's ally Jim Gilchrist of the Minuteman Project reported on January 8th that Huckabee promised to oppose birthright citizenship, but on January 9th Huckabee contradicted Gilchrist saying he'd made no such promise:

Mike Huckabee yesterday contradicted his own top immigration surrogate, announcing he will not support a constitutional amendment to end birthright citizenship for children born in the United States to illegal aliens.

It was a stark reversal after The Washington Times reported that James Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Project, said Mr. Huckabee promised to pursue an amendment to the Constitution.

In an article in yesterday's editions, Mr. Huckabee's spokeswoman did not challenge the former Arkansas governor's statements to Mr. Gilchrist and said the two men shared the same goals on immigration.

But by yesterday afternoon, Mr. Huckabee had backed away from that position."I do not support an amendment to the Constitution that would prevent children born in the U.S. to illegal aliens from automatically becoming American citizens. I have no intention of supporting a constitutional amendment to deny birthright citizenship," Mr. Huckabee said in a statement posted on his campaign Web site. [WT]

I'll leave it to you to decide who's more credible, Jim Gilchrist or Mike Huckabee...

Now if only our constitution had anything to do with the word of Huck's "living god" to begin with.

This man from his statements obviously and undeniably supports theocracy. That simply cannot be denied.

Wait.. so they couldn't come up with much to say? Like maybe.. he is proposing theocracy, which is something anathema to everything this nation stands for.

He's not even close to being in office. Mike, we have no intentions of changing the Consitution. Not many years ago people would have mobbed the stage if anyone had the gall to make a comment like that. He should be disqualified for being un-American, a subversisive and undermining the Constitution. Yes, I know who that sounds like. Too bad. Thanks, ANNA

The Bill of Rights guarantees freedom of religion and says that there should be no religious test to hold political or government office, nor should the government interfere with the free exercise of a person's beliefs. I wonder if we need to add a clause or an ammendment guaranteeing "freedom from religion"?

I'm not so sure it *is* easier to change the Constitution. We all know what it takes to make such a change... and getting 3/4 of the states to ratify a proposed Amendment is pretty damned difficult.

Now, changing the "word" of a "living god" apparently takes nothing more than the continual assertions of some number of crackpots over the course of a few years. We've all witnessed exactly this over the last few decades.

Huckapoo is obviously on crack.

Huckaboo is indeed serious....to create a theocracy....and just cynical enough despite his declaring he's "not mad at anyone." The Happy Warrior (once referred to Hubert Humphrey). He goes on Comedy Central/Colbert, gets lots of laughs, to diffuse the stereotype of the angry right-winger, railing against immigration, etc. His demeanor IS a lot more digestable than Bush's truly repellant chortling and smirks. But his call for "God's word" to be embedded in the Constitution is an attempt to get primary voters in his pocket...
Truth is, the whole bunch of the Repug's are the worst I have ever seen...the danger is the public is going to get the last one standing, no matter what...What a sorry state of affairs....Bush 3...I think it's proof there is NO god.

lol, that's only true if Ron Paul is dropping out of the race. Here's a quick primer of the 14th AM clause in question:"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." Paul has long held that illegals are not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, and thier US-born children should not automatically receive citizenship. He has said this needs to be clarified by another amendment as courts have wrongly interpreted it.

But I agree with the gist of your article, Huckabee is a wacko and a radical.

I would have been willing to give God the benefit of the doubt on the legal and moral underpinnings of the nation, if he at least played an active role in its development. Instead, he has abdicated that responsibility, allowing his lackeys to walk all over the letter and spirit of his laws, hurting some very decent people in the process (heck of a job there!).

I hope this isn't a demonstration of true indifference over our fate. As an exercise in humility, it may actually work. We daily implore God to bless our country (injurious to the rest of the world, and its own people) and our troops (in their mission of occupation). What happens when we stake our claims of national power and moral legitimacy on God's leadership, and our ambitious ventures fail? Will we be forced to admit ours is the less powerful God? May we finally debate his very existence in rational terms? Or can we conclude that God doesn't care enough for this empire to bless it, and it's about time we got over it to run our own political affairs?

If you go back in the archives, I think you'll find reference to a fundraiser held for Huckabee in Houston at the home of a prominent Christian Reconstructionist. This group advocates for a theocracy, in which civil law would be subject to "biblical" law. Somebody needs to ask Huckabee whether he wants to introduce stoning for adultery, too.

Is Huck referring to the Word that God spoke to Moses, KANEH BOSM? I doubt it!
I sincerely doubt Huck will be able to accept that in Exodus 30:23 the living God instructed Moses to use 250 shekels of "kaneh bosm", cannabis, in the Oil to Anoint all his Kings, Priests, and Prophets, for all generations to come, including that of Jesus and even today. Huck will suddenly over rule the Word of God. Even after reading the materials and he actually admits the Word is the Word, he will pretend to know better than God and even ignore new science proving cannabis destroy's tumors, promotes the growth of brain cells, and prevents Alzheimers. That it is being used in Canada and Europe to treat Alzheimers, MS, epilepsy, autism, diabetes, chronic pain, nausea, migraine, arthritis, glaucoma, cystic fibrosis, obesity, emphysema, asthma, herpes, skin conditions, Parkinsons, Huntingtons, Tourettes, Crohns disease and more. He will brush off that the seed is the single most nutritious thing you can eat and could prevent world hunger. He will say that we cannot grow hemp because it looks like the evil MJ even when hearing that hemp can do anything that oil, coal, timber, and cotton can do, and do it ecologically friendly. Even after hearing that all paper, plastics, packaging, paints, varnishes, fuels, lubricants, textiles, plywood, structural components, many health foods, cosmetics, and much more, over 25,000 products can be made with it, will he accept the Truth. Even after learning the Chinese now grow 40% of the worlds hemp and are developing new technologies for plastics, paper, and fuels that will keep the U.S.A. at an economic and strategic disadvantage for many years will he accept the Truth.
The Truth is that in 1936 a Polish Anthropologist named Sula Benet discovered that in the original Hebrew text of the Old Testament the Word "kaneh bosm" was translated as calamus by the Greeks when they first rendered the Books in the 3rd century B.C., then propagated from the Greek in all future translations. Hebrew ceased to be used as a spoken language after this time period and was not revived until the late 1800's. Benet claimed through substantial research and etymological comparison the proper translation for "kaneh bosm" is cannabis. In 1980 the Hebrew Insitute of Jerusalem confirmed her claim that indeed "kaneh bosm" is cannabis. Kaneh is also listed as an incense tree in Song of Songs 4:14. The mistake was repeated in Isaiah 43:24, Jeremiah 6:20, and Ezekiel 27:19. There are 141 references to the anointing and 145 for burning incense in the standard Bible.
This revelation along with the discovery of the Nag Hammadi scriptures in 1945 make one thing perfectly clear. That in order to be called worthy of the title "Christian" we too have to be anointed with the Oil as described in Exodus. The water baptism alone or any other oil is the counterfeit anointing and literally and Biblically antichrist. 1 John 2:18-29.
How can this Nation possibly call itself Christian and yet have the main ingredient in the Chrism, God's Holy Oil illegal. It aint possible folks!
I'll pray for Huck to learn of the Truth, and then to have eyes that see, ears to hear, and a heart that understands. Ill pray that he accepts the Truth of the living Christ! Christ in you, the Anointing!!!

This is false. Ron Paul has called for this long before I heard it from Huckabee. The only difference is that Ron Paul didn't subsidize the education of the children of illegal immigrants as Huckabee did while Governer of Arkansas. Ron Paul's voting record on immigration supports his position.

Don't be fooled by Huckabee. Those willing to review his history aren't falling for his lies.

There are so many things wrong with this statement that I hardly know where to start. In case it somehow missed you, he's talking about constitutional amendments banning abortion and defining marriage.

But, what I want to know is how Mr. Huckabee thinks he speaks for all Americans in his understandings of God's standards. Maybe Mr. Huckabee doesn't know that the Bible doesn't explicitly address abortion at all, and that religions (and people of faith) differ on the question of when human life begins. Maybe Mr. Huckabee doesn't know that the Bible doesn't speak to adult same sex committed consensual relationships as we understand them today.

Is this guy Huckabee out of his mind? His proposal goes against everything the Founding
Fathers stood for. Remember Separation of Church and State???? And who's religion should the Constitution reflect, Huckabee's???? How about the Catholics, Jews, Baptist, Janes, Shinto, Muslim, etc. etc. can we cow down to all of them???? How about following the Seventh Day Adventists??? Then everyone could be a vegitarian and save the planet. No joke, as a religious order they live longer than any other religion. And, meat production in the USA uses more than 40% of all the water, 30% of all fossil fuels, and causes millions of tons of Methane gas to be released into the atmosphere. So, to me that sounds better than Huckabee's ideas!...What do you think? NEVER happen....Religion has NO place in Politics.

And what NO one is addressing is one simple concept when it comes to saving lives. Fact...3K+ people died on 9/11 and now we spend BILLIONS on a war to kill more people.
Fact....in 2004 more than 16,000 Americans died in Alcohol related Auto accidents. In 4 years that's MORE than all the US troops killed in Viet Nam. So, why isn't anyone calling for Prohibition again???? Too much money is involved that's why! No ONE addresses the real issues.....So, who's the bigger threat to your health Bin Laden or Budweiser???? The facts are clear....give up the booze....get healthy...eat right....and DON'T vote for Huckabee!!! Just my humble opinion of course....protected by the constitution, unless Huckabee gets elected and wants to change that too!

Yippee!! I can't wait to see all you hippies, homosexuals, nonbelievers and heathens beheaded in Times Square (we'll take lessons from Iran)!

Truth be told, maybe we should let Huckleberry be President - keeping both houses majority Democrat of course. At the end of his 4 year lame-duck stint, the American people [might] will be so tired of the religious zealots, we'll be burning them at the stake for once!

We need a way to discredit and demoralize these religiously brainwashed idiots. Catching a repub-megachurch-minister in a 'unnatural' sex act isn't working. "I have sinned, please pray for me..."

Wake up America! You're asleep at the wheel and driving into the ravine of Totalitarianism [or in this case a Theocratic Totalitarian state]!

This president has basically shredded the Constitution and now a presidential hopeful wants to piss on it too. Thank god, there are people out there that see through this religious b.s. What is interesting to me is the blogs are picking this up but last night on the "news", other than Morning Joe, there was no mention of Huckleberry's comments. Main stream media needs to wake up because if this guy gets elected they will be the first ones to be censored and then they are going to scream like crazy.

I believe the crux of Mr. Huckabee's message is that the disrespectfulness, and smugness, of progressive internationalists is threatening our society's freedom and security.

Additionally, the Left disrespects life as something worthy of sanctity (because there is nothing sacred to the Left, except its own self-seeking liberti es/nes) and its "culture of death" (control through abortion). Leftist ideals of unbridled liberty are subverting parental authority in families and weakening the structure within which primary character is shaped.

There is no freedom without responsibility. Trouble is the "anything goes" of the Left is troublesome to those who understand that leaving founding values behind bodes ill for the country.

Paradoxically, Huckabee's long-term economic platform (FairTax) strengthens individual freedoms, and self-determination of the family, as well as diminishing class warfare and export-import trade inequities.
