White House Falsely Claims Bush Supports Iran NIE, While He Trashes It Abroad

Posted by Amanda Terkel, Think Progress at 5:07 AM on January 15, 2008.

Today during a White House teleconference, a Fox News reporter asked whether President Bush "fully accepts" the conclusions of the latest NIE, which said that Iran had halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003.

"Has he admitted the possibility at all in his mind that the analysts may be wrong about this?" asked the reporter. Perino replied that Bush has not expressed "anything but support" for the NIE's findings:

PERINO: I've not heard the President express anything but support for the intelligence community. But I think what he has said, and he has repeated both privately and publicly, is that he does not believe that the NIE that was produced -- was it two months ago -- should provide anyone any comfort that Iran is not a threat. In fact, it underscored for him and for many others, as we've learned from around this region, that they also believe that Iran remains a threat.

But over the weekend, Newsweek reported that in private meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Bush disowned the U.S. intelligence community's judgments:

"He told the Israelis that he can't control what the intelligence community says, but that [the NIE's] conclusions don't reflect his own views" about Iran's nuclear-weapons program, said the official, who would discuss intelligence matters only on the condition of anonymity.

The reporter said his question was based on exchanges Bush had with Fox News reporter Greta Van Susteren, who will be airing those interviews on Wednesday.

How Does He Get Away With It?

How is it that Bush can simply "say" the sky is pink and then everyone looks up and sees a pink sky?

How is it that Bush can alter reality just by his words?

When are the people of this nation going to realize that the president is a sociopath?

This guy couln't tell the truth if his head was on the chopping block and the blade was heading for his neck. He lies so much he probably couldn't tell the truth if he stepped on it. That little blonde ditz playing at the microphone should be fired. She's useless. Didn't she hear what he's been saying over seas? He flat out is trying to start another damn war. This country doesn't want another war. We just want him to go away. He's not going to go to jail but at least let's get him out of the White House and out of Washington. Give him back to Texas. They deserve him. He is a lying, greedy, stupid, corrupt fraction of a man and we don't want or need him at all any more.

Presidential Liars in-motion tend to remain in-motion unless acted upon by an equal or greater opposing force.

PROVISO: This Law of Political Physics no longer applies to United States presidents due to insufficient opposing force within Congress, The Courts, The People, The Media, The Academy, etc., etc.

Thus, in the US, Presidential Liars can now easily lie their way into retirement -- with appropriately fat pensions and emoluments also guaranteed.
