Bush Disowns U.S. Intel, Tells Israelis Iran NIE "Doesn’t Reflect My Views"

Speaking in the UAE, Bush said the United States and Arab allies must join together to confront the danger of Iran "before it's too late."

After the recent National Intelligence Estimate on Iran was released, Israel publicly challenged the U.S. intelligence consensus that Iran had stopped its nuclear weapons program. "In our opinion," Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said, Iran "has apparently continued that program."

Just days after the NIE was released, Bush quickly announced he would make the first visit to Israel of his presidency to mend differences over Iran.

In private meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert this week, Newsweek reports that President Bush disowned the U.S. intelligence community's judgments:

But in private conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert last week, the president all but disowned the document, said a senior administration official who accompanied Bush on his six-nation trip to the Mideast. "He told the Israelis that he can't control what the intelligence community says, but that [the NIE's] conclusions don't reflect his own views" about Iran's nuclear-weapons program, said the official, who would discuss intelligence matters only on the condition of anonymity.

Bush had reportedly briefed Olmert about the Iran NIE days before it was publicly released in late November. The New Yorker's Seymour Hersh said, "The Israelis were very upset about the report. They think we're naive, they don't think we get it right. And so they have a different point of view."

But after his private meetings with Bush this week, Olmert -- asked whether he felt reassured -- replied, "I am very happy."

UPDATE: Speaking in the United Arab Emirates, Bush said the United States and Arab allies must join together to confront the danger of Iran "before it's too late."

Since when has this sorry excuse of a president listened to anybody or anything except his own "gut"? Of course his "direct line" to the Almighty is in play here too, but why would this even be an issue for this arrogant, incompetent, smug, dry alcoholic?

How many days do we have left with this administration?

A Dangerous Year Ahead

The White House’s propaganda campaign laying the groundwork for military action against Iran dates back almost six years—to Bush’s 2002 State of the Union address in which he designated Iran as a founding member of the “axis of evil.” Since then, this drumbeat has waxed and waned as other concerns—primarily the disastrous invasion and occupation of Iraq—have often commanded center stage. Now, with the Bush administration in its final year in office, a renewed push and a shorter fuse are possible--despite the NIE report. My 3-minute YouTube video entitled “Forewarned Is Forearmed: Bush On Iran” is available HERE. It offers a brief but troubling chronicle of the president’s public warmongering and demonization of Iran.

Such manipulation of public sentiment has also been a key part of the White House’s entire Iraq war enterprise, so we should not be surprised to see it play a similar role in regard to Iran. For those interested in a psychological analysis of this warmongering, I have also recently completed a 10-minute online video entitled “Resisting the Drums of War.” It examines how the Bush administration’s messaging targets five core concerns that often govern our lives–concerns about vulnerability, injustice, distrust, superiority, and helplessness. The video describes these warmongering appeals and offers suggestions for how to counter them. It’s available for viewing HERE.

Hellish Times

The NIE was the consensus of all 16 American Intelligence Agencies that the US admits exist. If the president is just going to ignore the obvious truth in favor of more lies (which he has been known to do on occasion), then maybe we are indeed in for Hellish times. This thing with Iran could get nuclear, folks. The US or Israel could drop "tactical" nuclear weapons on Iranian weapons facilities, spreading fall-out over a wide area. Heck, even if the US attacks active nuclear facilities with conventional bombs only, radioactive fallout could still spread over populated areas.
And that is to say nothing of the blow-back.
America's enemies have a long memory. If the US attacks Iran, spreading radiation, then perhaps when terrorists or enemy governments DO get a nuclear weapon or two, they will use it against (a) US city/cities in response to our attacks. Just remember, if you survive the attack but some of your loved ones don't, America was the original aggressor in this thing. No one in any other part of the world will feel sorry for your loss.

How much more of this arrogance do we have to endure before the impeachment proceedings start. He is not permitted to make such statements in representation of our country.

.. the war criminals think we are naive and get it wrong.

Sorry, folks... but when people who go to war and kill as many civilians as "militants" and drop cluster bombs into populated areas say we are wrong... I'm guessing we might just be right.

I think that just about everyone who posts here realizes that corporations and lobbyists run the country led by a psychotic would be dictator. This is a very scarry year ahead for the people with recession and possible war on the horizon.

GWB is determined with every fibre of his being to commit the US to an open ended Crusade in the Middle East for the foreseeable future.
The cheap trick with the "threatening patrol boats" was just the first step, expect "incidents" to escalate and watch a docile Senate roll over and approve "surgical strikes" to eliminate some more WMD's and bio-labs.
Unless Pelosi and the dumbass Dems find a backbone and openly defy this lunatic (against immediate charges that they are unpatriotic and aiding the enemy) our 4,000 dead young Americans will be only a taste of many thousands more sacrificed for this man's ego and mental instability.

Because he wants his war. And you watch.. he will have it.

A man who has started two wars and wants to start a third has no place talking about Iran being a threat to world peace. BUSH is a threat to world peace. He HAS bombed people. He HAS started aggressive wars. He HAS WMD.

Bush regularly ignored the NIE.
If he had paid attention to it the attack on the WTC might have been adverted.

Now, he has chosen to ignore the NIE conclusions regarding Iran. On what does he base this blatant stupidity?

Maybe it is the voice he hears in his head - which he thinks is god.

We must IMPEACH Bush and Cheney before it is too late!

We must IMPEACH Bush and Cheney before it is too late! Bush's insane, lawless behavior as reported in this article must have consequences if we are to save this country, the Constitution and the planet!

Impeach Bush and Cheney NOW

Defense of the Constitution Knows No Party

The Bush administration has illegally seized and imprisoned Americans without benefit of their trial by jury, has spied on Americans without warrant in violation of the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution, has lied America into a disastrous war, and has betrayed an American intelligence officer, who was working on weapons of mass destruction networks, to our enemies (Valerie Plame.)

Impeachment hearings against Vice President Dick Cheney are now a distinct possibility, thanks to a recent outpouring of public support for impeachment by Americans across the political spectrum. Your calls and faxes to House Judiciary Committee members are needed to keep up the pressure.

Leave a message for your Congressman, to demand he obey his oath to "defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." Act now to restore your rights and the rule of law bequeathed to us by our Founding Fathers, which brave men have died defending throughout our history.

Call the House Judiciary Committee

202-225-3951
and demand that Impeachment hearings begin ASAP!

*What Happened to Make This All Possible?

On November 6, 2007, Rep. Dennis Kucinich brought H.Res.333, for the impeachment of Cheney, to the House Floor for debate. It was broadcast on CSPAN. A sudden outpouring of public support for impeachment forced lawmakers to keep the resolution alive. Democrats, most of whom currently resist demands for impeachment, were unwilling to kill the bill with the public watching. Republicans and some Democrats, mindful of impeachment sentiment, voted to debate the bill, but failed. At the end of the day, Americans of both parties had made it clear whose "table" this is, and that they want to see impeachment on it.

Did anybody bother to read the Newsweek article on which this latest bit of alternet shrillness is apparently based? According to the Newsweek article the Iran NIE has some info that does not jive with its conclusions.

What exactly is the basis for the NIE conclusion that Iran does not now have an on-going nuclear weapons program?

Only today IdiotBush was on the news calling Iran a threat to the world at large and to Israel and the United States in particular.

This cowardly moron can't tell us how Iran is such a threat but it doesn't stop him from repeatedly making an ass of himself with the claim.

Any person with a basic knowledge of military capacities will find his claim to border on insanely ridiculous. What component of Iran's military is it that presents such a threat? Is it her world-class Navy? Maybe her fantastic armored divisions? Or perhaps it's her oh so powerful army, which can't even control the renegade operations like the Republican Guard?
This guy is so use to spreading bullshit that he no longer cares how silly it sounds. He needs a straight jacket.

SPEAK FOR YOURSELF DEAR GEORGE

Bush, as usual, assumes facts not in evidence - that the U.S. has Arab allies. First of all, one must distinguish between the leaders of an Arab nation and its citizens. One should not equate one with the other. Sovereign nations are not of one mind. When a given action will result in the leaders getting more wealth and power or relief from civil or criminal accountablity for their crimes, and the citizens will suffer death, being maimed, and poverty, the fact that the leader says this or that does not mean that the citizens of that nation approve of the act or actions. To state that the U.S., Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc. did this, believes that, or supports something else is bad journalism because it is pure unadulterated propaganda. If the elite who dictate what is and what is not the news, whether it is true or not, wanted to, they could easily state how the locals reacted to the assertions of the men or women who claim the authority to speak for them.

Whenever a spokesperson for our shadow government, aka the self-called elite, publishes that a given country has said or done something, one should ask whether the statement or act reflects the will of the People concerned. People, individuals, exist for reasons other than to promote the wealth and power of a self-proclaimed aristocracy. Bush is not the United States. Most of the People of the United States do not want to wage a war of aggression against Iran. Most of the Arabians do not want Bush and his private army to attack Iran.
