Blackwater Considers Itself Too Hardcore for International Mercenary Association

They don't want to follow the group's conduct code, a "set of ethical and professional guidelines for companies in the...industry."

The International Peace Operations Association, which is the trade association for mercenaries inspired by the efforts of mercenary group Executive Outcomes to end the Sierra Leone Civil War, has parted ways with Blackwater. Apparently Blackwater doesn't want to follow the group's conduct code, the "set of ethical and professional guidelines for companies in the peace and stability operations industry." Initially Blackwater, a member in good standing since 2004, agreed to be reviewed by the group after the accusations that the company killed 17 Iraqis in Baghdad last month. Now they don't want to be reviewed.

I've read a bunch of liberal books recently that touch on mercenaries and their politically threatening overtones: The End of America, Blackwater, and the Shock Doctrine.

Really, though, it's not too hard to see how private armies that have been deployed both abroad and on American soil with secret government contracts controlled by right-wing Christian donors to the GOP that immunize these firms from liability are probably dangerous.

I'm just a hippie blogger though and this is probably not bipartisan enough.

UPDATE: Progressive caucus member Jan Schakowsky has led on this and has a bill in the House called the Stop Outsourcing Security Act, HR4102, which would defund Blackwater.

hope your army is better than theirs. they are not going to take this lying down. they have billions invested(future contracts) and I'm sure they have made plans for that money. No liberal,or pussy congress is going to shut them down. I'm curious to see just what happens.

I hope this doesn't mean ALL those red blooded Republicans, Independents and Democrats not listed here, are actually in favor of Blackwater taking over our government.

I hope they just haven't heard about this bill yet. Wow, call your congressperson.

Remember New Orleans? Someday Iraq will be over and they will be back on US soil. In the meantime they are being trained in North Carolina. That little town in southern Ca (I forget the name) has run them out for now. This is a group that needs to be stopped! Support the bill.

Shades of the SS and the Gestapo. Literally, Cheneys' private army. I hope our military can stand up to them.

Murder for Hire

Murder for hire is not exactly a new concept. It has been around in one form or another from the time humans started to cluster in cities and fight for territory with armies.

It is nothing more or less than one more event in the constant class war on the American working classes and the working classes around the world.

If you know the history of the movement for organized labor in this country, then you know that one of the most notorious gangs of professional killers was the Pinkerton organization. Used by the Robber Barons of the early 20th century to massacre and assassinate labor leaders and organizers in this country.

Paid killers are not limited to Mafia assisins, if there ever were such a creature, but have been widely used by the government of the USA here and abroad and by the leaders of the corporate kleptocracy for generations.

Blackwater is the Republicans' version of Hitler's SS troops, ready to go, having done a brief rehearsal in New Orleans for local application. Don't say you weren't warned, when they assaulted the homeless and the poor while protecting the property of the privileged. All those desperate folks without food or water and absolutely no help from the Republican "gummint" as Reagan used to call it. And when they broke into already flooded stores for the sustenance withheld by Bush/Cheney, they were shot. By Blackwater mercenaries.

You're safe in your own home, you say? Well, good luck with that when the economy collapses.

Who would have ever thought America could get so scary. The SS is back. I would never have thought so many X soldiers could be bought.
