Forced to respond to the tragic assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee has spent the last 24 hours constantly fumbling and apologizing for his cluelessness and incompetence on a key foreign policy issue.

This morning on MSNBC, Huckabee said that Musharraf was unable to control Pakistan's "eastern borders" with Afghanistan:

People who questioned my view of foreign policy probably need go back and read the speech that i delivered back in Washington in September. ... We have seen what happens in the Musharraf government. He has told us he does not have enough control of those eastern borders near Afghanistan to be able go after the terrorists. But on the other hand, did he not want us going in so what do we do?

Watch it to your right:

Note to Huckabee: Pakistan shares its "eastern border" with India, not Afghanistan.

Huckabee also seized on the Bhutto assassination to tighten up his hard-line anti-immigration stance. Yesterday, he said the U.S. should be on heightened alert from the threat posed by Pakistani immigrants:

[F]ormer Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee suggested that after the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, the United States should, "have an immediate, very clear monitoring of our border, and particularly to make sure, if there's any unusual activity of Pakistanis coming into the country. We just need to be very very thorough in looking at every aspect of our own security internally."

Also yesterday, Huckabee addressed Bhutto's death after "[striding] out to the strains of 'Right Now' by Van Halen." He said the U.S. should weigh the impact Bhutto's death would have on Pakistan's "continued" martial law. But President Pervez Musharraf formally lifted the emergency rule in Pakistan on December 15th, nearly two weeks ago.

Huckabee also told an Orlando crowd that he offered his "apologies" for what happened in Pakistan. The campaign quickly recanted the statement, saying he actually meant "sympathies."

Huckabee's muffed and embarrassing responses to Bhutto's death underscore his glaring foreign policy incompetence.

Laura Flanders: Vanity Fair's Retort to the New Yorker's Obama Cover Misses the Mark
If Vanity Fair wanted to flip the New Yorker cover on the GOP, they'd have to portray the media's lies about the candidate. Not the true stuff.

We should vigilantly guard our southern border with Canada to make sure none of those Pakistanians get in to wreak havoc at the urging of their leader Barack Obama and his Talibanian hordes.

Well, hey, look at it this way.. his public speaking skills are going to make him look even more appealing to anyone who still likes Bush, or probably anyone who liked him in the first place.. I mean, at this rate, he'll be making up words like "misunderestimate."

But hey, I actually quite enjoyed the part where we got to laugh over books of those quotes from Dubya..

This feckless boob is considered by some pundits (at this early stage in the process) to be the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. The fact that there are a large number of people who support this racist homophobe says a lot about the sorry state of electoral politics in America today.

In my opinion based on watching the goings on in the world, the average Christian fundamentalists has a passive acceptance of authority, and if that authority figure says he is a man of god, he can rape their wife, daughter and dog and they will still support him. They have this desperate need for someone to control them and will put up with no end of atrocities with no complaint. Want proof, the catholic clergy have been raping children for centuries, yet the average devout catholic will accept it because the priest after all speaks for god. Lets see how many of you I piss off.

Just run for president. No experience necessary. "On the job training". We can't afford another dope who does what he's told because he doesn't know enough to dispute anything with anybody. Stop the values crap. It's time for some smarts and a shred of decency. Making excuses for these people is not the answer. It's time to get rid of them early on. Eliminations. 'Sorry, you're just not qualified'. Thanks, ANNA

Will someone please explain to me how Huck is not qualified to be President? Seems to me he's a tad smarter than the one Americans elected TWICE so that may turn out to be a handicap but his comments indicate that he still has plenty of stupidity left in that brain of his that God created personally so I'd say his chances of being President are still pretty good. It's not Huck's fault that the catfish pond was right next to the chemical plant down there in Ozarkville...is it?

If a presidential candidate can be caught making a bonehead remark such as Huckleber...Gomer Pyle...er...Huckabee's, then just how much ignorance is being professionally covered-up by the rest of our "leadership?"

Here's an idea: along with banning private money from political campaigns, we should also ban the use of speechwriters. Make these morons write their OWN speeches – then we'll all have a much better idea of just how dumb (and self-serving) they really are.

Where are his Advisors?

Come on, where are his advisors? Wouldn't you have thought that when the news came regarding Ms. Bhutto that there would have been an immediate checking of facts? It happened early morning U.S. time, I heard it on the news at 5:30 AM our time so its not like he was making a speech and news came over the wires. He should have been prepared. This has been my main complaint with The Texas Turd. He just never had anyone giving him good, sound advice. That's why he has flubbed up so much. Then to make it worse, Huck pulls the Christian card yet again as in "I'm just a poor sinner......" Give me a break. That played right into Rudy's hands as the guy who is going to protect us. What the hell does he know?

Please Lord, deliver us from these fools.

PICKING NITS

Mr. Huckabee gave a rather detailed Sept. 2007 foreign policy address in Washington DC that tends to make the current media items look a bit like picking nits.

As if this story weren't the mighty nail in the
coffin of his presidential run, when Huck loses
in the Arkansas primary, that should convince all
of the other Republicans not to give him the GOP nomination. Arkansas recently moved our primary date up closer to the beginning of the year, so here shortly he will lose his home state and that should speak volumes to everyone else in the country.
Happy Holidays
