Dennis Kucinich is not happy, and who can blame him?

Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D) is being excluded from this week's Iowa presidential debate because he has not rented office space in the Hawkeye State, his campaign said Wednesday.

The Des Moines Register informed the campaign that Kucinich is not invited because the newspaper determined "that a person working out of his home did not meet our criteria for a campaign office and full-time paid staff in Iowa," the campaign said.

The campaign blasted the decision to exclude the lawmaker from the debate.

Seems every year there's another debate controversy involving those not in the "top tier". Just let them in. How hard is that?

"The Iowa caucuses have been portrayed as having national implications, and if the Register has decided to use hair-splitting technicalities to exclude the leading voice of the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party, then the entire process is suspect," the campaign said in a statement about the "arbitrary and unreasonable exclusion."

The campaign claims that Kucinich has also been barred from public appearances by "the Iowa Democratic Party, Iowa Public Television, and well-funded political interests..."

Kucinich always has good things to say, and says them in a straightforward, challenging way. Let him speak.

UPDATE: Alan Keyes can debate. Dennis Kucinich cannot. Okay then.

There is one additional Republican presidential candidate who will be on the stage here at the GOP Des Moines Register/Iowa Public Television debate this afternoon: Alan Keyes.

This will be the first major debate this cycle featuring the former presidential candidate and ambassador, who most recently faced off against Barack Obama in the 2004 Illinois Senate race (even though he actually hails from Maryland). Keyes did participate in the Tavis Smiley-moderated GOP debate in September, which the top Republican candidates skipped.

I won't be able to watch. Can't say I'm too upset about that.

EDITOR'S NOTE: If you want to get Kucinich into the Democratic debate, contact the Des Moines Register here

What the hell is going on. Oh, yeah, New World Order, Illuminati, Fascism, global take over.

I must say, I am sick of watching our country go down the toilet. I am sick of the lies and BS. So we can do torture, rape, killing, genocide, depression, recession, suppression, stealing, constitution shredding, treason, spying, poisoning and such, but do not let a real man debate.

This country is toast.

Day 2 of my challenge to Kucinich to leave the Democratic Party and run as an independent
Posted by: Rune on Dec 12, 2007 2:12 PM
Current rating: 2    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Let's see, Kucinich says he is driven to uphold the constitution and promote peace and justice. However, while he is saying that, he remains a loyal member of the Democratic party, which not only refuses to give him any real power, but actively thwarts his attempts to push impeachment, stop funding illegal military action, or, now, just have a place at the table during a debate among party candidates fighting to be nominated.

Nonetheless, Kucinich remains loyal to his corrupt and ineffective party. How loyal? Loyal enough that he won't criticize the Speaker of the House for signing off on, and possibly pushing for more, torture when she was briefed on what amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.

If Kucinich was a true leader, he would not only criticize and call for censure of Nancy Pelosi on these grounds (to say nothing of cutting deals to keep the military domination of Iraq going), he would insist that she be stripped of her position as Speaker and denied all committee assignments or he will leave the party and run as an independent candidate for president. If Dennis really had his heart set on pushing for peace and justice instead of just making himself look good to progressive voters by saying all the right things knowing there is no chance any of his ideas will be acted upon by the rightward tilting Democrats in charge of his party, he would break out of his self-made cage about now. He won't, of course. He never has and he never will. The sad truth is, Kucinich is all show and no go.

Maybe the Democrats are right to blow him off. If he is just going to take that sort of treatment instead of standing up for himself and his convictions, he really isn't fit to be a leader, let alone president of the United States.

Dennis Kucinich: Low in the Polls Yet High on Principl

He’s the only Democratic candidate with the BALLS to call for the criminal Cheney’s impeachment.

He’s the only Democratic candidate who calls for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. No Bull Shit timetables or phased withdrawal.

Yet his polls numbers are low. What gives Democrats?

Do you support Cheney and a continued US presence in Iraq?

Dennis K. is a decent, bright man who does not posture, condescend or give us verbiage....his polls are low because the media has made him a scape-goat for lots-of-laughs about his good-looking wife, and WHAT does she see in little ol' him.
She sees all the above, and more.
We would as well,if we had been given a chance...but with media and politicians who delight in taking cheap shots the guy never had a chance.
Too bad.Our loss.
On to more lies, torture and lost video tapes. We will get what we deserve.
What a terrible thought!

Dems, stop the INSANITY

This is the kind of bullshit that drives progressives away from the party by the THOUSANDS.

You want a Green Party resurgence? Keep it up, then, because at some point the progressive wing of the party is going to decide (and probably rightfully so) that the Democratic party is not operating in their best interests. What do you think they'll do then? Hand the election to Romney? Stay home? Write in Kucinich? All of the above?

Call the President and Publisher of The Des Moines Register, Laura Hollingsworth. Ask her, politely, to reverse this obnoxious and unprecedented decision. (515) 284-8041 or email her
publisher@dmreg.com

Let her know that this is unacceptable. Let her hear from people all across the country. Just tonight the Register had Alan Keyes in the Republican debate. Who in the hell even knew he was running? By the Registers same criteria he should've been excluded from the Republican debate.

Since when did a newspaper cross the line and decide just who should be included in their coverage? WhoTF do they think that they are?

If the purpose is to let the citizens hear the candidates, then ALL the Democrats on the ballot should be included-period. If not, then stop pretending that your paper is unbiased.

I suggest that ALL Democratic candidates withdraw unless Congressman Kucinich is included. Let The Register sit and spin that.

It's kind of hard to feel indignant given that Kucinich has repeatedly refused to condescend to debate his own congressional opponents, in both 2004 and 2006 and now again in 2008. He has currently failed to even respond to debate requests from the longest running of his several primary opponents. It will be interesting to see what he says this time when the debate request goes out from the City Club of Cleveland following the Jan. 4 filing deadline. My guess is it will continue to be "no," which yanks away his moral high ground on this. His past opponents have all won larger shares of the vote than Kucinich is likely to win in the Iowa presidential race.As for Alan Keyes, I assume he was included for comic value, or because he makes the other Republicans look somewhat sane!

This is the second major Iowa event that Kucinich has missed. The first one, I believe, was Tom Harkins BBQ (or something like that).

The rules for entering this major debate in Iowa were clear. While I don't agree with them, why didn't the Kucinich advisors, campaign team, meet the requirements?

An office in Iowa is not that hard to acquire. Seems like he's getting really shitty campaign advice. I'll miss him in this debate. He really brings something that other's do not.

It's the blood of thousands of our military and more than a million Iraqis. Don't expect those complicit in genocide to admit guilt. Iowa voted hook, line and sinker for the pre-emptive destruction of another nation. Dennis Kucinich is a harsh reminder of this.

America has become the biggest embarrassment to all other nations on this planet that are truly free and democratic. What a farce you are, and I'm not being sarcastic or trying to be 'funny.' Merely honest which your present Administration hasn't been from day one. Now the Dems are playing the same game of exclusion to one of their own. Hypocrisy reigns in America. Fret not though, we have its parallel here in Canada, Harpocrisy reigns in the supposed 'true north strong and free.'
Peace in all its dimensions, please!

Kucinich has the guts to stand up to the war criminals, the torturers, the authoritarians. He's a principled voice for peace and civil liberties.

No wonder lots of people want him silenced. No doubt GOPers are working furiously to get Paul -- Kucinich's GOP counterpart, really -- out of their debates, too.

It's the same thing the two older parties do to upstart third parties, by ballot access laws that keep Greens, Libertarians and so on off the ballots.

But now we have the Web. We have ways of getting our message out. There is new potential for these maverick voices who represent millions but who have been silenced and stymied until now.

Here again, even without Brown shirts, the relentless establishing of underhanded fascist methods are bent on controlling our freedoms and ability to hear what we want, say what we want to say, and freely dabate the issues of our time.

Every day almost the truth is self evident. Just days ago the CIA destroyed prime evidence. News that would put another nail is GWBs coffin.
Now there is a prime bill on the senate floor going to be voted on about letting off the "Telcoms" for breaking the law in supporting Bush's domestic spying game plan. But will YOU Contact Diane Feinstein and tell her to support Senators Dodd's filibuster? probably not.

Now here we have a friggin news paper ( Whose really in charge of this paper?) Dictating who can debate and who can not in a seemingly crucial primary election.

Come on you people. You're not screaming load enough. What do we have to do, Beat the fascists up in the streets?

If that's what it takes! "They'll not take over my country with out a fight". Are you with me? or with the Domestic pirates?

You, the military, that have vowed to to protect our nation form ALL enemies both foreign and DOMESTIC, .WAKE UP!
YOU ARE THE ONES THAT MUST NOT FAIL US.
YOU MUST NOT BE DECEIVED ANY LONGER.

PROTECTING AMERICA STARTS AT HOME.

That's what we are doing with out uniforms. We are the true patriots here within the belly of the beast. Fighting to preserve the union against these domestic pirates that are systematically chewing up our country.

Dennis Kucinich has been the only candidate who has show a consistent vision of justice grounding any possible peace. Now those Democrats who have kowtowed to the Cheneyesque vision of fear want to eliminate a voice of honesty that can cut through the obfuscations and attacks that have characterized this self-destructive process that seems aimed toward assuring the victory of any Replican, no matter how dangerous or incompetent, in November. Doesn't anyone get it? We face the greatest Constitutional crisis since 1860 and our candidates are focused on trivialities--perhaps they hope to inherit the un-Constitutional powers Bush/Cheney have amassed since none has had the courage to back Kucinich's introduction of impeachment proceedings in the house against both Bush and his puppet master. At this rate, if Kucinich is not on the Indiana ballot, I'll vote for one of our dogs--they are at least what they seem to be.
