Ex-Bushy, Red Cross Prez Steps Down After Receiving Inappropriate "First Aid" From a Subordinate

No matter where you look, there's a scandal. Now it's the Red Cross:

Red Cross President and CEO Mark W. Everson has stepped down after revelations he was "engaged in a personal relationship with a subordinate employee," the organization announced Tuesday.

Come again? (What did you expect, a serious piece? Oh! Did I just say "piece"?)

By the way, the "other woman" is still employed there.

Everson, 53, said in a written statement that he was leaving the $500,000-per-year job "for personal and family reasons, and deeply regret it is impossible for me to continue in a job so recently undertaken."

Everson -- who is married and has two children -- joined the Red Cross as president and CEO last May.

How unusual! A Republican family man with a secret lover!

About Everson, [Chief Public Affairs Officer Suzy C.] DeFrancis said, "We're grateful for his service."

I bet at least one person is! Bada BING!

Everson had worked in the Bush administration from August 2001 -- including serving as commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service -- until he was hired by the Red Cross.

I wonder how long his Form 1040 is. My guess? He uses the short form.

Don't you just love it when all of these "family values", "God fearing Christian Republicans" who purport to love Jesus and the wonderful sinless lives they lead compared to the demon driven democrats, fall on their collective butts in disgrace?

You can't beat that with a stick.

I'm getting more than a little fed up with this anti-flabby-white-conservative-pentagenarian-Reaganite witch hunt. We paid good goddamn money for all the newspapers, radio and TV stations, movie studios, and other media distributors. There was a time in this great land when once you were bought you stayed bought. Who the hell has the time to dig up all this dirt? Aren't you too busy at BurgerHutâ„¢ to care about what your Owners are doing in the privacy of their sex lairs - er, boardrooms?

That's it. Warm up the Leer jets, file a flight plan for Barbados. Our money and us will live happily ever after. Thank you very little.

On a different note, I'm DISGUSTED!!! How is it that the RED CROSS, a non-profit disaster relief agency, where I faithfully donate blood and money, even HAS a CEO who makes that kind of money? I believed that kind of crap was only the legerdemain of GOP-run corporations, i.e., Enron and its ilk. You've ruined my innocence.

I'm not at all surprised that we have yet another morally suspect appointee with this crony, after all that pretty much describes most of the Republicans in the current news but what does surprise me is that heading the Red Cross should be a $500,000 position! What the hell could possibly justify that kind of money? Has this position become just another handy place to park one of your suckass buddies in the political game?
I remember my dad heading the Red Cross of Wash DC. shortly after the war (WW2) and it didn't pay enough to support his family.
While we're at it , why is it that most of these organizations which subsist on donations manage to pay the CEOs such exorbitant salaries? Anybody in Congress ever look into that or are they too busy accepting bribes oops, campaign donations? What a country! Revolution anyone?
