Media Celebrates Bush's Attempt at Syrian Diplomacy After Ridiculing Pelosi's

Bush's White House Spying on Iraqi Prime Minister

Fox News: 'McCain's TV Commercials Contain ... Out-Right Lies'

This post, written by Ali Frick, originally appeared on Think Progress

When Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi traveled to Syria to visit President Bashar al-Assad last spring, the right wing immediately excoriated her diplomatic efforts.

President Bush said the trip "sends mixed signals" to the Assad government, and Dana Perino called the trip "a really bad idea." Vice President Dick Cheney said Assad's "bad behavior's being rewarded." Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) viciously accused Democrats of being "so drunk with grandiose visions of deposing Bush that they break bread with terrorists and enemies of the United States."

The media picked up the conservative talking points and ran with them:

CNN's Suzanne Malveaux: "Why should the Americans, or even the international community, see this any more as a political stunt here, a publicity stunt, a big wet kiss to President Al-Assad?"

Washington Post Editorial Board: "Ms. Pelosi's attempt to establish a shadow presidency is not only counterproductive, it is foolish."

Thomas Sowell of the Baltimore Sun: "All that Ms. Pelosi's trip can accomplish is to advertise American disunity to a terrorist-sponsoring nation in the Middle East while we are in a war there."

NBC's Matt Lauer: "But if the Democrats and Speaker Pelosi appear to be acting irresponsibly or incompetently -- and let's face it, a lot of people think she messed up on this one -- what's the impact for Democrats overall?"

Now that the Bush administration has come to its senses and invited Syria to become part of the solution in the Middle East, the media has missed the administration's reversal, instead praising Bush's "victory" in securing Syria's attendance:

New York Times: "Syria announced Sunday that it would attend the Middle East peace meeting beginning here Monday night, joining Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Arab League participants in a turnabout that represented a victory for the Bush administration."

The Denver Post: "Victory for U.S.: Syria to attend summit."

The AP's Amy Teibel: "The Bush administration was able to declare a clean sweep when Syria, the last Arab world holdout, said Sunday it would attend this week's high-stakes Mideast peace conference."

The Wall Street Journal: "The Bush administration is even courting a long-time pariah, Syria. ... Talks with Syria could go some way in weakening Tehran's strongest alliance in the region."

The AP's Sam Ghattas: "The Syrian participation is already seen in Washington as a success for the Bush administration."

With the exception of a right-wing editorial in the Wall Street Journal attacking the Bush administration, not a single media outlet appears to have noticed that only six months ago, they -- and the White House -- were imprudently ripping the Speaker for reaching out to Syria.

Is Palin a Step Backwards for Women in Power?
Sarah Palin is a milestone, for we achieve true gender equality when an incompetent woman goes as far as an incompetent man.

The US media calling itself "liberal" is like a pathological liar saying, "Sure, you can trust me. I always tell you the truth."

Actually, come to think of it, this comparison isn't even a simile. The US media *IS* a liar saying you can trust it.

Of course we lefties are not shocked that Pelosi was given a harder time than the Bush administration by the media. Still, we have managed to get the impression that the Bush Admn is pretty awful, even with the reporting we HAVE seen. Just think how bad Bush and friends REALLY are! What are we not hearing about? It boggles the mind, and sends shivers through my soul.

Peace Hype from Chickaboomer.blogspot.com

Israel and the head Palestinian thug smoking the peace pipe with George Bush to rescue his legacy. This on the heels of America's Citigoup making a deal with the devil - Arab state Abu Dhabi - to the tune of $7.5 billion to rescue Citigroup from certain death.

Israel's Ehud Olmert, Palestinian head Mahmoud Abbas, and Bush emerged from the first day of "peace talks" at the Naval Academy in Annapolis trumpeting the news: Peace Talks in 2008!

Bush is just jealous of Al Gore's Nobel Prize. Bush greeted Al Gore in the Oval Office yesterday like he'd welcome the Black Death. The Goracle oozed enough chill to halt global warming. Jimmy Carter bought his in 2001. Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres, and Yitzhak Rabin shared the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize for their lame, ineffective, and phony dog and pony Middle East peace show.

It's deadly getting in bed with one's rivals. Egypt's Anwar Sadat was gunned down in 1981. A pissed-off Jew convinced Rabin was selling out assassinated him a year after he copped the Prize. Ironically on November 4, 1995 - the day of my third marriage. It was at the National Press Club and the press bolted my wedding reception to gather around the TV.

The awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize is a joke. The winners are liberal like the Norwegian political hacks handing down the meaningless "honor" and money. There's nothing equitable or real. Politics. There's no peace in the Middle East and there never will be. Olmert, Abbas, and Bush are image spinners and if Shakespeare's right about "what's past is prologue," the three will share the next Nobel Peace Prize merely for their "efforts."

Back then when speaker of the house Pelosi visited Syria, it was noted that a delegation of republican congressmen had visit a week or two earlier yet there was no out cry. Democrats need to hit the Sunday circuit and talk with the media about this BS! The party of the wide stance is great at raising the BS in the media, but the Dems seem to just sit and watch. Strike back at the empire, call upon the Jedi Knights to defend the weak, and the innocent. Curse the empire and their filthy tactics and lies.

Can We talk?

Nancy Pelosi has been called a lot of things in the last few months. She has a hard job. It is possible some of the criticism is deserved, but she should also be given credit for having the smarts to know that diplomacy should not be used as a method of last resort.

First you talk. If that doesn't work, talk some more. And keep on talking--if that's what it takes. As the old adage says: "Talk is cheap." At least it is when compared to the price of warfare.

That is, of course, if you are genuinely interested in finding peaceful solutions to what threatens to become an incendiary situation. The Bush method: Throw on a little more gasoline!

The MSM media has proven to about as helpful to the American people as an actual news blackout. At least when no news is allowed to be published or spoken at all, the people suspect right away the government is up to no good. As a growing number of Americans now suspect, this government has been up to no good.
