Bush Accepts Violence Against Women as Long as US Allies Inflict It

Lucinda Marshall: Punishing the victim of rape is terrorism. But I guess since she didn't have any oil to bargain with, it doesn't count.

As journalist Mary Kay Blakely pointed out many years ago, sometimes there simply aren't two sides to a story. That is most certainly true in the case of the 19 year old victim of a gang rape who was recently sentenced by a Saudi court to 6 months in jail and 200 lashes. Her crime? Riding in a car with men who were not her relatives. There cannot be any acceptable cultural or legal justification for the violation of human rights, even when the country committing the violation is a U.S. ally.

CNN apparently didn't get that memo if their recent "Saudi: Why We Punished Rape Victim" is any indication. According to the report, the Saudi Ambassador to the U.S. told CNN that Saudi Arabia,

"welcomes constructive criticism and insisted that the parties' rights were preserved in the judicial process."We would like to state that the system has ensured them the right to object to the ruling and to request an appeal," the statement continued, "without resorting to sensationalism through the media that may not be fair or may not grant anyone any rights, and instead may negatively affect all the other parties involved in the case."

The statement also described the progress of the woman's case and explained that it was heard by a panel of three judges, not one judge "as mentioned in some media reports.""

SO WHAT???

"It said the case was treated normally through regular court procedures, and that the woman, her male companion and the perpetrators of the crime all agreed in court to the sentences handed down.""

And their other choice would have been???

The article goes on to say that U.S. officials have expressed dismay, but not directly to the Saudis. Gee, that is helpful.

"White House homeland security adviser Frances Townsend, who announced her resignation Monday, called the case "absolutely reprehensible" but told CNN's "American Morning" the Saudis deserve credit for their assistance in battling terrorism. "This case is separate and apart from that, and I just don't think there's any explaining it or justifying it," she added."

Um, right. Leaving aside that we bombed Afghanistan even though most of the hijackers came from Saudi Arabia and that has never caused our oil-lusting friendship for the Saudis to waiver, here's a newsflash for CNN and the White House: Gang rape is terrorism. Punishing the victim of rape is terrorism. But I guess since she didn't have any oil to bargain with, it doesn't count.

Shameful and Outrageous. Why Bush won't recognise or admit the evil of Islam

is easily seen, as this article points out. The Bush family is so buddy-buddy with the Sauds that they cannot be criticised. The US policy, at least since Carter, also is build upon appeasing Muslim despots and promoting Islam- the world's most hateful, backwards, and violent religion. Lest you think it is only the Republicans the Democrats also support the pro-Islam policy. Remember that Clinton invaded Serbia and channelled money and arms to Muslim terrorists, like the KLA, Al Queda, and Chechynan fighters. This was because the Serbs were defending Europe, again, from the Muslim hordes. Clinton went so far as to bomb the Chinese embassy and have a military stand-off with a world nuclear superpower Russia at the airport, just to support the crazy Islamic radicals! Bush Sr was even worse with his machinations at the CIA involving Islamic despots and mujaheddin. Bush Jr is the same way. They love Islam because it spreads violence and, thusly, means greater opportunities for US military actions, diplomatic junkets, aggrandisement of international groups, and money for rebuilding/rearming contracts.
ps: Bush refused to even admit the historical genocide by the Muslim Turks of the Christian Armenians (as well as Greeks and other ethnic groups.)!!

the petroleum bastards will continue to win. Now what does "War on Drugs" have to do with the BLATANT violations of human rights in Saudi Arabia? EVERYTHING. See, America guzzles the most amounts of petroleum and it isn't limited to transportation alone (hint: manufacturing plastics, gizmos, medicine, etc ...). The one and only total replacement against petroleum is Industrial HEMP. That is why Big Oil/Chemical/Coal/Cotton/Paper/etc... joined forces to ban this plant first through overtaxation and then allowing Nixon's creation of the DEA to ban it outright. But let's rewind. Back in FDR's time, FDR "negotiated" with the Saudis after WWII ended and hence dependence on petroleum not only ESCALATED but also America's SHACKLED dependence on foreign oil grew by leaps and bounds. And still you ask, what does this have to do with the barbaric behavior in Saudi Arabia? EVERYTHING. See, as long as the US is SHACKLED to do OILY business with the Saudis and REFUSES to END THE DRUG WAR or for that matter bring about other petroleum-free alternative renewables such as solar, wind, tidal, geothermal, etc ..., the US Govt will not surprisingly REFUSE to condemn the Saudis for their barberic behavior and the Saudi elites will refuse to serve JUSTICE.

If we are talking about a family that was partners with Standard Oil at the gas factory at Auschwitz as Prescott Bush was, or a family that was aiding the enemy in WWII directly shipping needed materials to the Nazis even in 1941 and 1942 and then again there is evidence later in the early fifties to aid the worst Nazis to escape Justice as well as prior to the 2nd World War as the Congressional records now show or murder FDR and over throw America then why would we ever expect any humanity or decency from such as the Bush Family..?

They aided the enemy then and they have aided the enemy now, just look at Tora Bora letting bin-Laden, Zawahiri and all those al-Qaeda escape so they could continue to threaten and harass The American people and our ever fewer allies..

Doe sBush sit and think that could have been one of my daughters no never just as he didn't care about Katrina and New Orleans or all the victims of 9/11 he Betrayed at Tora Bora..as well as the American People...

IMPEACH these Texas Oil Criminals and family of Nazi collaborators, Impeach them or we'll have WWIII..!

Every America should be outraged and ashamed due to this President and those swine that surround him...!

Simple as that...

STILL WAITING FOR GEORGE

It amazes me that after six years people still think that Bush will 'do the right thing'.He does as he pleases and doesn't try to please anyone else. While you're waiting you can send your own e-mail to 'The Arab News' and join with countless people from around the world who have spoken out against this cruel treatment. And yes, it has made a difference. A word from Laura would be nice, but I won't hold my breath on that either. Thanks, ANNA

It is not all of Islam that is evil, but the fundamentalist, Koran-literalist version. It was the British who installed the Wahhabi Saud family on the throne and they and we have since supported, armed and encouraged them, even as they radicalized their own population and, through their support of radical madrasas all over Asia financed by our oil consumption, much of the Islamic world. The Koran is bloody and unjust, to be sure, but read the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible) and you'll find the same things.

Our support for corrupt, extremist regimes and cruel dictators such as the Shah of Iran led to this backlash of politicized Islam, as did our creation of the Taliban.

We have met the enemy and he is us.
