Yesterday, President Bush sat down for an approximately 30-minute interview with Fox Business Channel. Toward the end of the interview, host David Asman asked Bush, "What do you think, looking back, your greatest hit was? Where you really hit one out of the park. And what do you think your greatest error was?"

Bush replied, "Success, there's been a lot." But he refused to reveal his greatest error, instead saying that he was disappointed Congress blocked his Social Security plan:

BUSH: Well, I would rather go disappointments, rather than errors. The disappointment is not getting a Social Security package, Social Security reform, because that truly is the big deficit issue. I'm sorry it didn't happen. I laid out a plan to make it happen -- to enable it to happen. I was the first president to have addressed it as specifically as I did. I wish Congress wasn't so risk-averse on the issue.

Self-reflection and admitting mistakes aren't strengths of Bush administration officials. In April 2004, Bush famously froze when asked to name the biggest mistake of his presidency. "I wish you would have given me this written question ahead of time, so I could plan for it," he told the reporter. "Maybe I'm not as quick on my feet as I should be in coming up with one."

Others in his administration haven't fared any better in answering the same question. In Nov 2006, Alberto Gonzales said that he couldn't think of a single mistake he'd made while serving Bush during the last six years. "I think that you and I would -- I'd have to spend some time thinking about that," he said. In March, when asked about the administration's biggest mistake in Iraq, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice replied, "I don't know. When we look back over time we will know the answer to that question."

Bush may be unsure about where he will stand in history, but historians are already debating his legacy. As Rolling Stone recently noted, "Many historians are now wondering whether Bush, in fact, will be remembered as the very worst president in all of American history."

I can see where the President is coming from. There are very few of us in the world that are always right. You "wrongies" are very irritating to us. I must admit though that one time I was wrong. I thought I had made a mistake but didn't. :)

It's all about Dictatorship

This is precisely what a dictator thinks.

He had total control over Congress - they have caved on EVERYTHING he wants (Forget his recent comments on 'Congress wanting to overspend' - HE is the overspender and has proven it with his emergency appropriations in Iraq) , has allowed the hijacking of Christianity, and his friends own the airwaves. In addition, no one is allowed to formally protest anything he says or does - and anyone who does is rounded up and jailed. His audiences are ALWAYS handpicked - which includes his infrequent press conferences.

There is nothing left to prove that this man is not honorable. There is nothing left to prove that this man is NOT a dictator except for him to absolutely abolish the other two branches of gov't. But... surprise!... he doesn't have to abolish them at all. He's already stacked the Justice branch and the Legislative branch licks his boots.

So, we have a dictatorship. And he is infallible.

Enough of the Dictator Stuff

The US is not a Democracy. Jimmy Carter's International Election Supervision Commission could not oversee US elections even if Congress approved and invited them because the US is a two party SYSTEM run by Capitalism. "It's the economy stupid!" really means it is all about the money. CEO's make 365 times as much as the average US worker. The majority of CEO's and politicians had to sell their souls to get to the top. K street in Washington runs this country for the Capitalist Elite who think they run the world.
Bush only wishes he was a dictator because he knows he is nothing but a lackey for the Elite, his "Base" who only 'abase' US.
Now, if only they could get those non-Christians and the other 90% of humanity to join them on their Crusade to the un-holy lands and their Idiot-alogical quest for their holy grail, the Second Coming of ...

It's hard to believe that Bush refers to other world leaders as dangerous. What does he think the rest of the world thinks of him? They think he's a nutcase and yes, dangerous. This man can start a war this afternoon. Suddenly I don't worry about Castro or Chavez. The most despised man in the world is our leader. And yes, he believes every word he says. Thanks, ANNA

G.W. Bush Can't Make Mistakes

Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
When he reached his 40th birthday, G.W. Bush claims that he found religion and became a "born-again"! If you have ever read about this phenomenon, then you know that such individuals truly believe that they now have "truth" on their side. Therefore, if they do or say something, it has to be true! Anyone who disagrees obviously has not reached the nirvana of true belief. That is really why George W. does not ever make mistakes! That is also why he and many of those who surround him are some of the most dangerous individuals to have occupied the Executive Branch. It also goes a long way to explain why despite laws to the contrarty, he truly believes that he can ignore them if he believes that they don't live up to his definition of what is "true." This is also why a deeply religious person can be scary. Those who have "Truth" on their side often stubbornly refuse to acknowledge that there can be reasoned arguments in opposition. In his mind there is no need to do so, because there can be no other answers.
George W. once proudly proclaimed that he was The Decider. What he has failed to acknowledge is that there are three main articles in the Constitution and that the Legislative Branch is described in Article 1 in great detail. In civics classes we are taught that the Legislative Branch "makes" the laws, the Executive Branch (Article 2)then "enforces" those laws, and finally the Judicial Branch (Article 3) gets to "interpret" those laws. This balance of power so intricately interwoven in the Constitution has slowly being eroded away by Bush and his commitment to "Truth." George W. cannot envision that he has ever made a mistake because in his mind he simply cannot fathom such a defect in his character.

In his mind he has never made a mistake! It's always someone else's fault. I don't have the words to describe how out of touch he is. One thing for sure, he is indeed the worst president in recorded history; not just in this country, but any country in the known world. Impeachment won't happen. We will be fortunate if we have any more elections at all. I could go on, but what the hell use would it be?

I was thinking this morning about how, when the Palestinians elected Hamas, the U.S. and a lot of other countries slapped massive sanctions on them for their democratic choice.

How would it have been if, in 2004, a big chunk of the world had hit us with major sanctions (and maybe some saber-rattling for good measure) for W's reelection? What if, should Americans elect a president (either party) in 2008 who favors prolonging our occupation of Iraq, a big chunk of the world gave us the economic middle finger?

Just daydreaming. The U.S. has its fingers in everybody else's political pie, but we sure view our politics as our own damn business. Maybe it's time to call for some international sanctions, like Nelson Mandela and Aung San Suu Kyi did against their countries' regimes.

. . . is something the Bush family knows how to do. USA Today: "Bush's military file contained a second document that also asked for information on any arrests. Portions of that page, his enlistment application, are also blacked out."

History has indeed been kind to this boy so far.

Mr. Bush is typical of a tragic type of person, that has a complete lack of confidence in himself, a problem which reaches its maxiumum intensity, when such a person is placed in circumstances where his abilities are put through the most extreme demands. Bush must feel, that if he acknowledges "any" mistakes, he'll be exposed for the pathetic loser he is; as a man who has made nothing but errors his entire life.

Goodness will find the little boy. It always has. It will again. (Cormac McCarthy's "The Road")

Mark my words. Someday, in the not too distant future, there will be a series of arrests. Good men and women (none of them much rich) will conduct the interrogations. They will not resemble anything done by the White House press corps. The cowardice of the accused will be apparent in the film record. The crying and the urination will certify the shock in them that their world has been turned upside down so suddenly. How could their mighty Blackwater forces have been defeated by ragtag regular US military?

An eminently fair trial will follow and those proven guilty will be convicted. Impeachment! The spirit of Benito Mussolini laughs at your stinking impeachment. Il Duce knows what awaits this gang.

Dear reader many of you do not see clearly yet and you think this raving, at least fantastic. But some of you will live to see it happen. Enjoy!

The handwriting was on wall in 2004 after Abu Ghraib was revealed yet majority voted for Bush anyway. In 08 we will probably get choice between bad(Clinton) and worse (Giuliani.) I may have to stop reading alternet as I come away either depressed or angry or both.

The expectation that Bush or his Administration would genuinely admit to an error is a foolish one and takes time and energy away from more reasonable goals.

The near-insistence on apology, on admission of wrongdoing, seems more like something one would hear in a domestic squabble, and doesn't accomplish anything.

Harsh or not, we'll all be doing ourselves a favor if we get over our need to prove ourselves right and focus on what we can do with what we have, be it in the election or on smaller, more local terms.
